Hello, I am recently engaged, we got engaged in the Dominican Republic -- and keeping up with the abroad theme we want to get married abroad. Some family members can't fly far, so we've decided on Italy. Has anyone got married in Italy? How did you go about it? Also, did you do a package deal with everything included or do it al individually? Thank you ????

We started looking at Italy for our wedding. I did start by contacting companies who deal with weddings abroad. We want to rent a villa for one week for our immediate family to stay at. I've then started contacting the villa owns direct as it works out cheaper plus they will help with organising the wedding. Very good have a local person help. We did also contact Thomson to see what they do but I was less keen. As you book your accommodation first then give them three dates for the wedding. Then 8 weeks later they tell you which day it will be on. Not ideal when you have to be in country for 3 days before hand and only want to be there for 7 days so we can honeymoon else where. Hope this helps a bit, it's doing what is right for you and your budget x

Got married in Italy a week ago. Still here on honeymoon. Wedding was perfect. You need a wedding planner they are a little expensive but worth every penny. I used exclusive Italy weddings but there are other good ones too.

In the final run up of planning our wedding ourselves in Italy. We started with a wedding planner as we were concerned about the paperwork as we wanted it to be a legal ceremony as opposed to a symbolic but then she went AWOL (turns out her marriage ended and she decided to become a rugby player!!) So far it's not been too difficult- find out from the commune (local council) venues you can hold it in and how far in advance you need to be there varies from 1-5days. You'll also need a translator for the ceremony- we are having a friend do this. www.matrimonio.com is great for finding suppliers- it's in Italian but found most of it translates well through itools.com Good luck with your planning x
