I'm toying with various colours at the moment, and every seller seems to have different shades of what I like! Is there any way I can get a swatch (hopefully free or cheap) to help me out. Maybe from a bridesmaid dress company or one that does the men's waistcoats.
I think you may be best to find the ones you like and then contact them direct, most are very helpful in supplying these swatches x
Just email people for swatches, most do them.

If you go to a dress shop they will let you have/buy samples xx
I went to a shop that sold ribbon. I bought a length of ribbon in the colours I wanted and then carried them around with me matching them against everything
