Has anyone done the entire wedding reception themselves that can offer some insight? I want to rent a field and a marquee and arrange all myself as feel venues are restrictive and can't see anything that I genuinely would want to fork out for.

My cousin did this. It was BYOB which worked well. Think there was power provided but there were porta loos. It was a very relaxed style wedding with those staying over also camping in the field, think they had a fire pit for when it got dark. I think it worked well but you have to make sure you have thought of everything- don't want to be without facilities or shelter! You will also need a structure that is registered for weddings, unless you get married somewhere else first

We considered it for a while but it was a massive under taking that we couldn't do. You need to consider generators, toilets, how you will cater it, insurance, seating and tables and also look into licencing laws for local area if having alcohol. Can't be much help but definitely plan ahead. If land owners are willing to hire out land they could have contacts and more of an idea specific to your area. Good luck

My brother and his wife did this - borrowed a field, got a marquee, caterer, bar, the works. It was quite an undertaking and it took 2 full days to set up and a full day to take down and tidy up afterwards. It made me realise I want to use a venue who will set it all up and tidy it all up for me...but I've got kids so wouldn't have the time.

Understand completely, the idea of a wedding package fills me with horror. How can you have a package personal and intimate day?! However a marquee style as other have said is enormous effort. I'd look for a venue that offers venue only hire and leaves the rest up to you

We are doing this with teepees. Beware of land hire charges and restrictions. We also hired a wedding planner for the day to coordinate everything for us
