Have any of you attempted your own catering for your wedding?! We'll be having an outdoor wedding, and we cannot seem to find an outdoor caterer that are reasonably priced (we are based in Carmarthenshire/Pembrokeshire/Ceredigion way, if anyone has any suggestions of cheap caterers)! Any tips would be most welcome! TIA xxx

Personally I think it would be a massive undertaking to do all the food for your own wedding, unless of course you are used to catering for large numbers, good luck though x

That is our dilemma at the moment. We want a garden reception with a pig roast / BBQ. It is when one adds in the crockery and cutlery that it gets more expensive. Although the disposable stuff is free I'm not sure I really want that for my wedding. We are looking at getting the caterers for food ready at about 4pm, for less guests than we actually have, having prepared most of the salads ourselves the day before to cut cost, and then also putting on a BBQ a bit later. Still trying to work out if this is viable as I don't want to be the one running round organising!

We are looking to have a buffet reception as neither of us want anything formal for the reception. Originally we were going to cook everything ourselves but realised it would be extra stress the day/s before. Managed to find a company that let you choose your own platters and make your own packages based on your budget, and they deliver on the day

I'm used to doing parties etc but I want a day off so I've opted for a 3 course wedding breakfast rather than buffet x

I'm a professional chef and even I wouldn't cater at my own wedding. It be far too stressful and most people won't appreciate the work behind it either.

We had a tipi wedding in the middle of a field. We had hog roast served to table with Greek salad and potatoes was beautiful and profiteroles. Then we had wood fired pizzas in the evening xx

We had a hog roast served to table with proper cutlery and plates. We had lovely fresh Greek salad home made coleslaw and potatoes was lush. Then profiteroles for pudding. Then wood fired pizzas in the evenin it was £3,500 for 125 guests in the day and 250 in the evening so I thought that was a bargain. If having evening buffet make sure you eat around 3.30-4 so people are hungry at my cousins wedding we didn't eat till 6 and the buffet came out at 8 and nobody ate anything such a shame as they can only leave it out for health and safety reasons for 1.30mins x
