Has anyone had experience with M&S wedding cakes? We are reluctant to spend hundreds on a cake so am thinking about getting one from M&S. Thanks x

My friend had a M&S cake and it was delicious!! She got it decorated with her flowers and it looked lovely too. I paid a lot of money for my cake and did not think it was anything special....so wish I had just got an M&S cake. My cake looked lovely but the taste didn't live up to what I paid for. Z

We used 4 tiers (different flavours) and decorated ourselves. Worked really well. Only had top tier left by the end of the evening for approx 100 guests. Very reasonable. A fraction of the cost a confectioner would charge and was delicious!

They don't get looked after particularly well.. they arrive In store with morning delivery & then hang around the stockroom on a tray and a set of wheel so can easily get knocked or damaged.. sometimes get delivered damaged too!! If you collect first thing you should be okay aslong as it hasn't arrived damaged .. used to work there x

Do your research with local bakers too. The m & s ones aren't always the bargain they claim to be once you include all the bits you need and a baker will offer more flavour options - nb I'm not a baker but I have heard from couples who were disappointed with what they got

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 11 Jul 2017

I had mine from M&S... loved it. White chocolate icing with sponge. We added a chocolate brown ribbon around it to give it our own look.

We looked at m&s cakes but the problem for us was that you have to pick it up beforehand then assemble it yourself, rather than have someone deliver to the venue. I didn't want to put that responsibility on someone, and I didn't want to be worrying about that on the morning of the wedding. M&S cakes are still £300. We've got an amazing lady making our cake (found through Facebook) and it'll be cheaper than M&S, will look exactly how we'd like, and will be delivered and set up at the venue :)

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 11 Jul 2017

We got our wedding cake from M & S just the iced fruit cake & sponge cake, 4 tiers cost us £112 then we just replaced the white ribbon with our wedding colours and the florest did an amazing job putting fresh flowers on, it was perfect. Fruit cake lasted a while too. To be honest not many guests have the cake so why spend a fortune on one. Good luck

We had an M&S wedding cake last year, was really lovely! And no fuss at all, arranged for it to be ready to collect from our local M&S the day before the wedding.
Also, pro tip: you can get miniature wedding cakes from them for "tasting". They're about £5 for around 6 slices which is actually even better value than their proper size ones. "Just sayin'..."

I purchased 3 tiers for my Nans birthday - we had to put them together. They were okay, no complaints, but if I could of afforded I'd of got one made professionally! The tiers were alot smaller than I imagined too!

Ours was from M&S, each tier was a different flavour, we bought flowers from a local cake shop and the topper online and we loved it! The whole cake was gone by the day after the wedding, everyone loved the taste, icing was a bit too thick for some but could easily just take the icing off and eat the cake. Wasn't a problem to assemble yourself or take to the venue, my mom picked it up from M&S two days before the wedding, they took it to the car for her and it was very well packaged, nice and secure so didn't move around in the box, we took it to the venue the day before, there were dowels in the box to use when putting each tier on but we never ended up using them and we had no disasters! To be honest I'm glad we didn't spend a fortune on a cake as it's maybe looked at once when cutting it! I didn't even notice it all day but it did look lovely x

Absolutely nothing wrong with the cakes from M&S.....I've used off the shelf and from the order book and both are well worth the money.....and you can also buy so many beautiful ready made flowers made of icing from cake makers now to customise a white basic off the shelf cake, there's no need to spend hundreds on a cake....Waitrose also do beautiful cakes......
Good luck ️check out instagram for ideas ️

We're getting our wedding cake from m&s too as we are also in the mindset of not wanting to spend a fortune on a cake, I've only ever heard good reviews on m&s cakes so made it all the easier to finalise our decision to go for it xxx

I have heard people praise the M&S wedding cakes however I saw a post by a cake maker where they compared the size of an M&S Cake against a handmade wedding cake and there was a clear difference in the size.
