You can buy false cakes for cutting but they're about the same price. What about a small cake and then cupcakes or fruit platters, cheese rounds or similar for guests instead x

If you're not going to eat it, i wouldn't bother! It's YOUR day, not other people's, do what you're happy & comfortable with. We're having a completely untraditional wedding cuz we wouldn't want half of it xx

We will be having a profiterole tower instead as my other half doesn't eat cake although I would like just a small sponge cake for cutting and I love cake

We had a ginger bread house :-) you can have what you like, its your day. Ive seen pictures of people who have had a tower of burgers, you dont have to have a picture of a cake x

why dont you do a dummy cake or get someone to make you one out of card it gives you a memory box and if you do a 3 tier one you have favor boxes for guests

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 2 Jul 2017

What's the reason behind why you have one?

Cheese board

If your more into savoury stuff you can have a lie. Someone I know had 3 giant pies, one pork, one game and can't remember the other but it looked fantastic!

We're not having a wedding cake! I didn't want to stand in front of everyone doing the cutting the cake as I just would have felt awkward. Plus at other weddings we've been too it seems to get wasted. We might just have some cupcakes out with the evening buffet. X

You do what you want it's your day and it's up to you what you want it's your wedding if they thought that much of you then they wouldn't mind !

Olivia Brown

Its completely your decision. but there are other alternatives? you could have ones made of cheese if you're savoury people?

what about cupcakes? you can serve them and they'll disappear quick im sure!

or perhaps you can have foam cakes. they are discs of foam tiered and decorated to look like a real one.

But, if you really dont want one, then you really don't have to!

My sister had a cheese wedding cake - it was brilliant - base cheddar / middle - Stilton and top Brie - they had their photos cutting the wedding cheese cake, and then it was cheese (from the cake) with crackers and pickles and coffee instead of a pudding

We're having a donut cake, your day... your choice! Xx

It's your wedding. Cakes are not cheap so why spend all that money on something neither of you are even bothered about?

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 2 Jul 2017

We are the same, but we are having a brownie tower which we can use for pictures and then it doubles up as a sweet treat for the evening guests :D. Much cheaper than a cake as well but still looks great.

We had a Krispy Kreme doughnut tower and it went down really well

We're not having a cake either. Easy way to save a few hundred quid! I couldn't care less what other people think! I personally don't see the point of the cutting of the cake photo anyway! If it means that much to people get them to buy the bloody cake!! 🤣 stick to your guns! I've never really
Enjoyed the cakes I've received at other weddings and a lot goes to waste so I'm sure ppl will be happy with the food we are providing, who needs two desserts anyway! X

If you don't want a cake, don't have one. Other people need to remember who's wedding it is. Enjoy your day the way you want it

We are thinking about having a profiterole tower which will then be served with our evening barbecue. But if you don't want one then don't bother!

You don't need cake! We had a three tier pork pie!

do what you want (or not as the case may be!) It's your wedding.

UKbride Administrator

We get married next month and I'm actually a baker and I know a lot of cake is wasted at all weddings. I'm actually making my cake but it's all fake dummy cakes. More to say I did my own wedding cake but without having to waste cake as I know it won't be eaten really. I'm going to do a couple of 6" sponges for people to have if they wish but I'm not fussed on eating cake. On a note though don't expect that dummy cake is cheaper as in reality it isn't as the dummy itself can cost pretty much the same price as a sponge. If you don't want cake don't. It's your choice. Best of luck.

Do-nut tower! Put it together myself
Didn't 'cut it' or anything, just had it there for people to take one on the evening with the buffet. Out of 160 do-nuts, just 4 were left! It was a hit

Why don't you have something cute that you both like? When is your wedding? If it's likely to be warm weather you could have a make your own sundae bar for dessert and then have cute photos of your new Hubby and yourself making your sundaes? Putting cherry on top of each other's etc? Just an idea. But definitely don't have a cake for everyone else's benefit, if you don't want it, don't have it, it's your big day xx

If you don't want one don't have one it's your wedding .. I think sometimes people need to keep there opinions to themselves

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 3 Jul 2017

Have whatever you want. Something nice would be good as a centrepiece but you could have other things such as cup cake tower, cheese tower, doughnut tower, brownie tower etc. I don't like wedding cake either so we're having fairy cake tower. Every guest gets a fairy cake to take home. If you want a cake though that doesn't break the bank just get a one layer one to cut for photos etc

It's completely up to you. It's your wedding. We are having cupcakes because I absolutely hate fondant icing

Samantha A
Samantha A 4 Jul 2017

The cupcake idea is good. If you do not like cheese and other savoury ideas I have seen shot glasses on tiers. Two at the top etc and everyone has a drink to the bride and groom

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 4 Jul 2017

Just ice some polystyrene cake tiers and voila a wedding cake!! Probably cost you 20 quid
