When you get closer to the wedding day does anyone else get their wedding...

When you get closer to the wedding day does anyone else get their wedding rings cleaned (like new plating) I have a 18ct white gold engagement ring and been told if I don't it'll look off colour next to my wedding band. But I don't want to send it away for a month just before the wedding.

I will be getting mine cleaned. Why dont you send it off a little earlier than a month. It shouldnt discolour too much in a couple of months x

Ill be getting mine done. I had to have it resized and they replated it at the same time. It literally took a couple of hours not a month.

Hi my Mum has white gold rings and has never needed them dipped or professionally cleaned and she has been married 43 years :)

That is true your engagement ring will not look as shiny as your wedding ring, I had mine replated last year when I saw the difference and I'm going to have it done again just before the wedding and then not wear it again until the day.

I didn't and there's a slight colour difference, not much of one but I can see it if I look for it. I've only had my engagement ring for 7 months though so not much time to change colour really x

Some places dip them in the same day i know of two independant jewellers in newcastle where you can drop them off to be cleaned re dipped and polished whilst you can go shopping! You dont have to send them away all the time x

A month ! Thst seems a long time - you can easily get a ring re-rhodoum plated . But if you wear white gold it will look dull compared to your shiny new wedding ring.

I'm taking mine to a local jewellers a fortnight before and they said to give them a couple of days x

I've been married 39 years in April of this year. Never had anything done to either of my rings except having my wedding ring stretched a little. That was at 25 years when we renewed our vows.

I had mine done and it looks amazing! Even though I'd only had it for 2 years it looked a different colour to my wedding ring x

I got mine done just before our wedding so they both looked like new and we'll wear the same, I went back the place that I got it from, we had also got our wedding rings there and they actually did it for nothing as a gift to us, was only in for a week and we pick it and our wedding rings up at the same time

I had mine done about a month before and didn't put it back on until the day. They now match beautifully. To be fair we'd been engaged nearly 5 years and it showed when both rings were side by side. Plus my diamond is uber shiny! Deffo worth it in my opinion :-)

I took mine in definitely as my wedding ring was very bright, they usually come back pretty quickly, I would get it done, have a lovely day!

I got mine cleaned and re plated a couple months ago and will get it polished the week before the wedding. It only took three weeks to get it back after having it plated it looks so much nicer next to the wedding band now. We got it done for free as we bought my wedding ring from same shop and also got bridesmaids gifts at the same time.

The jewellers my h2b bought my engagement ring from mentioned they do it for free when we were in buying our wedding rings from there. It wasn't mentioned when he first bought the engagement ring so it's worth checking with your jeweller.

UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Who's telling you that ? the jeweller ?
Mine looked no different next to my wedding ring so I really didn't see the point of being without my ring or paying the money out

Whereabouts do you live? I have had my wedding ring made by an independent jeweller near manchester, he is going to polish, clean and re plate my engagement ring (for £15) 2 days before my wedding and will do it while I wait so it looks brand new for the wedding

I got my engagement ring cleaned...looked brand new!! I didnt wear it much before the wedding once it was cleaned as I didnt want it getting dirty

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Def worth getting it done. Mine looked so clean and shiny for the day. It doesn't normally take longer than about 10 days I think x

My engagement ring is white gold as is my wedding ring and my engagement ring will defo need cleaning as it's discoloured. Really can notice it with my wedding ring next to it but looks fine when it's on its own lol! Gonna be hard to be apart from it for a few days

Had mine cleaned by the guy who made the wedding rings. Took a week ?
I know it sounds awful but there would be a difference x

I've tried my wedding ring on with my engagement ring (both white gold) and there's a massive difference! I'm sending mine off! Only been engaged just under 3 years and it's so noticeable! Xx

UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Hiya, I had my white gold ring re-rhodium plated before the wedding at a local jewellers, when I was looking at rings there was a noticeable difference in colour. It only took a week and a couple of days and was well worth. They recommend you do it every couple of years so they will start off at the same colour and you can get them done together. X

UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I had mine dipped. It was back in 2 weeks, was expecting it to take much longer. I have a cheap ring on my finger now because I don't want to ruin the shine on it before the wedding day. It will look yellow next to your wedding ring if you don't have it done xxx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I bought a £10 ring from Claire's to wear for the 6 weeks before the wedding while I had mine replated. It looked stunning next to my wedding ring as it was clean and polished xx

Marie Karkoszka
Marie Karkoszka 22 Jun 2017

All white gold rings wear differently so some will wear faster than others. It can't hurt to get it done so they look the same but they shouldn't take a month to do. The business I work for does them within a week.
It's always good to get them cleaned and checked over to avoid any damage to the setting and make sure all your claws are where they should be. But if you try your wedding ring on next to your wedding ring you will see if it needs doing it'll be pretty obvious

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I am just having them cleaned the day before. Just leaving it at the jewellers for an hour. X

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I did! Hated not having it but really did make the difference on the day! It would have looked crazy next to the shiny new wedding ring! Xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I had a kit at home so cleaned my engagement ring the night before and didn't wear it until the ring exchange at the ceremony! Im glad I did it as it then looked clean in photos and didn't look off-colour in terms of the diamonds. I'm not sure about dipping as I didn't need that done.

I get married Saturday I didn't have my engagement ring for 3 weeks! And as it was the build up to the wedding I was telling everyone that I was getting married in X amount of weeks. The amount of people that would say 'where's your engagement ring'... I wish I did it sooner xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I have an 18ct white gold engagement ring, I got married in March this year, I sent my ring away in February and was quoted 4 to 6 weeks but I had it back after a week and a half. I think they quote those times to cover in peak wedding season and I think it also depends on the jewellers. I'm so glad I sent it away as when I tried my wedding ring on when I picked it up in January you could really see the difference between them!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Try it next to your wedding ring. Mine looks fine, I'm just gonna give it a Home clean before the wedding day so it sparkles a little brighter x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Yes, I had mine cleaned and plated before the wedding as white gold fades over time. I wasn't keen on sending mine off either but it was worth it because it came back looking brand new! Check with a few reputable jewellers though as the place I got my ring from told me it would take a month but the jewellers I used did it in less than a week.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I didn't have mine cleaned. I tried it on next to my wedding ring and it looked fine. I did have it cleaned when it got resized about a year ago and it's lasted well. My rings are gold x

Kathryn Worthington
Kathryn Worthington 22 Jun 2017

I've done that. I get married in a month and just getting them back today. Not wearing it though as it will loose its shine. I have a temporary one because when I did send it back it took 6-8 weeks and couldn't risk it this year xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

A month! Mine was done in 4 days!

Claire Gillick
Claire Gillick 22 Jun 2017

Normally only takes a week. I get my other white gold ring done 1-2 times per year and will get my engagement ring done just before wedding. Its amazing how it comes up with a clean, let alone re-rhoding x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I got my engagement one resized and replated at the same time. If been wearing a cheap one for a while as didn't want to resize more than once.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I had to get mine re sized and they cleaned it at the same time...The difference was unreal when I got it back it looked really shiny! Literally took a week in Samuels!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Hi I've just had my engagement cleaned and put away.. 6 weeks to go.... xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I had my engagement ring resized and cleaned about 8 weeks before my wedding and then a diamond fell out with 3 weeks to go! Got it repaired in time for the wedding and kept it in the box until the big day. It definitely needed a clean and my rings look beautiful together x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I got mine done no bother. Because of Where I live they get sent away south to be done and it was fine. But you really should get it done, what a difference it's made x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

It's true that it may look different depending how you've treated it - the rhodium plating does wear over time and wearing the ring whilst washing the dishes etc can speed this up little. Only the underneath of mine has changed colour so I didnt bother. This is mine 1 year after marriage (wedding ring on bottom).

I sent mine off just over 2 weeks before my wedding and it was fine. If it's white gold it'll definitely need doing

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

I had mine done 2 weeks before the wedding and didn't wear it then until the day of the wedding. Most jewelers will take about 2 weeks to clean and replate rings.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Depends where you got it but, there is a h Samuel in the Trafford centre that replates rings in 2 hours. ( if it close) I would have it sent off as I did before my wedding and when I compared my engagement ring to my wedding band before it did look discoloured. It is worth sending off xxx

Yes it will look different to your wedding ring so I would get it done and then not wear it until the wedding day. Find a jewellers that have an on site goldsmith and the wait time should only be less than 4 weeks. Where do you live I can recommend some places that have on site goldsmiths and your wait time with them would be a week to 10 days. Feel free to PM me.

Mine was redipped for the next day so 6 weeks sounds a bit of a long time?! 😱 maybe go to a local good jeweller's

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 22 Jun 2017

Mine still looks really good after 3 years, but compared to the wedding band is not as bright and shiny. I've had both of mine made though and the guy who made them is re-dipping my engagement ring the week of the wedding for free. If you have them made, this is usually a service they provide for free. Have u asked the place where u bought it? They may do something similar. My guy said it takes about 20 mins at the workshop but a 'retail shop' may need a week or so to send it off. Depending where you are, a jewellers that makes their own would probably be able to do it within the day if you book an appointment for a small charge. If you are in Yorkshire let me know and I'll point you in the direction of some I recommend. X

Proper White gold is not plated & should not need "replating"
