I am looking for a good photographer as I really don't like pictures...

I am looking for a good photographer as I really don't like pictures normally but would like some really good ones of our day, but after paying out for the venue I am now on a tight budget. What are the best deals people have found for photographers? Or does anyone know of any good but reasonably priced photographers in the Kent area? Thank you

Hi er are on a tight budget but not liked the packages or prices that have been quoted so far running out of options in our area :)

Just remember if someone sounds cheap it's probably for a reason... always look at their previous work and reviews. You'll never be able to get those photos again so you need to make sure you're hiring a professional x

I searched for photographers who had worked at my venue before (so they would know the best spots in the gardens and could cope with limited light inside etc.) and checked out their social media galleries. Then got in touch with them asking for quotes for what I wanted (fewer hours and no prints/albums).
Make sure you check the small print for travel costs and whether they need to be fed, things like that probably add up.
If you find someone wonderful further a field, ask - they might travel. Similarly, they don't have quite the package you want just ask them. They can only say no

Hi we get both your points but so far photographers are unwilling to tailor the packages to our needs. We don't want a photo booth or albums, you'd think in this economic climate they would be more flexible :)

Some one who is good is not cheap, and someone who is cheap is unlikely to be good. I did get mine cheap, however i work with photographers professionally so it was mates rates (i paid a third of his normal rate).

Wedding photography is a specific skill - even among photographers. Someone who can shoot amazing landscapes can still be a crap wedding photographer. Find someone whose style you like, and meet them to see if you like them - no point getting a person you are uncomfortable with.

Also remember that you are not just paying for their time for a few hours, you are paying for their kit, expertise and a load of editing time after the event.

Some photographers offer a cut price deal if you go digital-only, but you may need to go through them for any prints that you want.

Personally i would cut back elsewhere to get a photographer i like as the photographs will carry forward through the years, not the dress or the meal etc.

I searched for photographers in our area then looked at all their work on Facebook or their websites. Most were quoting over £1000 just for the ceremony. However I've managed to find one for £500. It's usually people that do it as a hobby or part time that are cheaper. Most companies also put your images on a usb stick and don't offer an album unless you want to pay quite a lot extra for the album

Try David Fielding offers a good package for a reasonable price.

Ours did us a deal as we were recommended through someone else. Maybe see if you can speak to friends/family that have been married and maybe get a referral deal. I agree though, good photographers are not cheap! We were quoted between £900-£1500 which was various packages. Each photographer will have their own packages as a standard.

Good advice below, but there are photographers who would be willing to meet your budget.

Always check their portfolio - If you don't like their work, then don't go with them.
Personally, as a photographer, I prefer photographing the event and sending photos digitally - Prints just take more time from me and cost more money.

Perhaps say to someone you don't want prints you want purely coverage and the images sent.

The best way to achieve this is perhaps avoiding the usual Wedding photographers as they probably have a price point that makes them seem more valued, whereas if they remove areas of a package, it lowers their perceived value.

Look towards other event photographers (can find loads from looking at nightclubs in your area!) and a decent price point to budget for is about £50 - 75 per hour

Have a look at hitched.com. it will tell you photographers in your area that are registered and you can ask for quotes and bespoke packages. I got mine from that site. Good luck x

We kept our costs down by not having the engagement shoot and our photographer has reduced the price as I don't want bridal prep, they wont all reduce costs but we were lucky, it's always worth asking for reductions if there are certain things in their packages you don't want. Enjoy your wedding and have a fabulous day :) xx

Contact some different photographers and discuss budgets many will customise for you. Don't be afraid to negotiate and be honest about what you can afford. Also if u book early (I did mine 11 months in advance) and if you aren't in peak wedding season or not on a Saturday these can also reduce costs. But go with recommendations, don't go on price alone

Hiya, depending on how much of a budget your on I would recommend either the UKC photography society, (you can search for their Facebook) they have some great budding photographs on there and would obviously be less than a professional photographer! Otherwise Olly Knight is quite reasonable and a lovely guy!

If I was to offer one bit of advice it would be to make sure you see at least 200 photos from one wedding, at least, never go by the photographers portfolio slideshow as they will be showing the best photos from all weddings. Another thing that happens is you book a really cheap photographer now for your wedding next year, the photographer puts their prices up and don't want to shoot your wedding which they quoted quite cheaply, so they cancel on you, this is happening all the time. Best if you can get recommendations from friends and not from facebook groups, there are too many people recommending their own businesses sneakily.
