In the very early stages of planning and was just wondering about average catering company costs (separate from venue package) for around 50-60 people? I've also heard a buffet would be a cheaper option than a sit down meal, has anyone gone for the buffet and saved quite a bit?

We paid about £7-8 pound a head for our 'picnic style' sit down meal, and about £10 a head for our evening BBQ! And the service we got was amazing!

We are having a buffet style and we are paying 300 for two buffets. We are dping it ourselfs between family. To have a cold buffet the cheapest we were quoted was 10 pound a head and we have 138 people just for the first bit so would of cost us over a grand for somone els to do it. We have all the proper trays with lids that we got for our sons baptism. You can buy them cheap enough if you shop around and make them look professional x

The prices vary hugely, we're getting married in Norfolk and the price difference between cold buffet (which we were going to do) and a hot plated main was £55 more for a total of 100 guests so we decide to go hot

I'm an wedding planner by trade, it would vary depending on where you are in the country, distance they need to travel, what staff you wsnt from them to serve and style of food, expect £40ph all in for outside of London standard buffet if you go professional, thay should include all plates and service too :)

I absolutely wish we’d had a buffet instead

We had a sit down meal but it was more relaxed, sharing platters and big bowls in the middle of table. People could get as much or as little as they liked, worked out cheaper and everyone enjoyed it xxx

mine was a family style platter thing on each table, and little finger foods including mini burgers, pizzas etc... came to £7.50ph in sussex which was pretty amazing.

Im having a buffet as getting married at 2pm. My sis in law is doing it for us. 110 people £400. Then we have the local market man coming with his food van in the evening so if anyone wants food they go out and buy it. Im in oxfordshire and some companys were quoting a min of £10 a head for just the buffet x

We did our own hog-roast with buffet, worked out cheeper than caterers were charging for just a buffet. Even including the cost of the whole pig and hiring the machine to cook it, it was still way cheeper than any quotes we got.
