I have been to a wedding where they just played music from their laptop and speakers. It was fine and you didn't miss having a DJ. The only thing it may not allow you to do is to have requests for songs but that's not always a bad thing x

We hired a Digital Jukebox which was great and everyone can add songs to the playlist

Don't do it - a playlist cannot react to your crowd like a DJ to get them up dancing

Does your venue have a pa system? Because then you could just plug in a laptop and use itunes or something :)
