We've booked a hog roast for our wedding in May next year, but I was thinking of making the canapees/starters myself (with the help of our families). Has anyone done it? Is it feasible? And if you've done it, what sort of things did you make? Thank you!

It would be possible canapes are meant to be small and bitesized just to tide yours guests over until the meal is served. You can do things like fruit kebabs, chicken bites, sausage rolls its all personal preference.

Check with the caterers first because you might find that they won't serve them for you

If you decide to do that I would advise making sure your helping family members are more involved than you are, make some thing that does not take to long to put together or make something that will keep for a while or holds well in the freezer. My cousin made her own wedding cake and some of the evening food and said she found it so stressful making it on top of all the other things she had to do the week running up to the wedding. It is a lovely idea in theory but you may very well be setting yourself up for a very stressful time in the days leading up to the wedding.

I did this with my mums wedding and it was a nightmare! Even though it was just stuff from Iceland it took ages and caused loads of stress the morning of the wedding where she should have been relaxed. There are loads of places that do them cheap and it's an expense I would go for.
