How much luck have brides been with haggling on their venues? And what have...

Hi we didn't haggle at all for the venue as it was cheaper than we thought possible. We haven't met with caterers yet we are going to have a buffet. :)

I used to be a wedding coordinator in London so am speaking from my observations. I guess it depends on what is included in that price and where you are actually having your wedding, I would say its a good start, but you could probably get more if you push a little bit! I didn't haggle that much with my venue as I am going off peak as well, having my wedding in February and on a Sunday, and they already offer a heavily discounted package for off peak Sundays (£80pp instead of £145pp which is the price for the same package but peak season on a Saturday, so saving over £7000 by doing it at the time we are). We are paying just under £9000 for 110 guests and this includes pretty much everything we wanted catering wise and includes exclusive use of the venue, 3 x canapes, 3 course meal, winter pimms on arrival, toast prosecco, 1/2 bottle of wine pp with the meal, bacon sandwiches in the evening, plus our smores station which we are hiring in ourselves. The only haggle I did with the venue is that I didn't want one of their desserts, I want our wedding cake as our dessert so the very little bit of money left in the discount package price is going towards the payment of our arrival drink which was included in the package, so only saving about £200 but every little helps! When I was looking at venues I asked them all to provide me with a bespoke package with everything I wanted to include (e.g. I only wanted a 2 course meal as I want our wedding cake to be the dessert and instead of champagne I wanted prosecco for toasts) and this ultimatly brough the price down in most venues, about £2,000 worth.
