Is anyone else being charged 'cakeage' i.e. a charge (rip off) to cut the cake. I was not told this and only found it buried in their FAQ on the website. It's £1 per person!

What? I have never heard of such a thing!

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm not considering just having one tier to cut into and then a load of cup cakes. These could then be put with the buffet (unless they have some sort of 'carriage' charge) i.e. Carrying them 20 feet to the buffet table!

In case I wasn't clear, the charge is for the kitchen to cut the cake. Not for me and H2B!

Hi Laura I agree with the others that is a rip off I would cut up my cake myself rather than pay that, our budget is tight enough without that :)

Hi Laura, definitely agree with everyone it's ridiculous. If they supply a cake knife just ask someone to cut the cake for you instead.

Unfortunately a few venues do this - not many but it is a thing. I used to work at a venue that done this but they only charged this if they were having their wedding cake as their dessert and they wanted it plated and served to the tables, they wouldn't charge if it was just cut up and served buffet style. Some places say they use it to cover the cost of serving and clearing up after a cake course. But for most places the charge is to cover the loss in dessert sales, if you are having your cake instead of one of their desserts. It is very similar to what venues use a corkage fee for if you bring in your own alcohol. A rip off - yes, but it does exist and it is a growing trend, especially in London.

Omg! What next? Cut it up yourself and get some guests to help dish it out on napkins like normal people do!!
