I have a quick question a bit embarrassing If you could ask your memebers I'm the type of person who can drink anything and need to use the loo a lot. My dress is massive it has 10 layers I'm worried about needing the toilet to much and my dress getting in the way. How did everyone else cope with this. Thank you in advance Keep don't use my name.

Hi You will need some one to go with you every time you go to hold your dress out of the way :)

Bridal shop told me to sit the wrong way lol so you just have to lift your dress at the front, it works too

Do you have a hoop? May help. Make sure disabled toilet is available so you have more space. I've also heard it's easier to straddle the toilet!!

There's a trick where you use a bin liner....

Face the back of the loo...worked a treat...also see if there is a disabled loo you could use x

Supposedly make a small hole in a bin bag for your feet to go thru then lift it upwards with the layers of your dress inside it

I had quite a big dress with a longish skirt, I had my adult bridesmaids take me to the toilet to help, and I go just thinking about a drink!

My sisters dress was skin tight from the top to the bottom of her knees. There was no way she was going to get the toilet without taking it off every single time. Thankfully we only had to take off and back on again 4 times the whole day. But 30mins each time took a lot out of the day.
I've seen people have a tie put in so you can tie the whole dress up when using the toilet? Also check there's enough room in the public loo for you, your dress and a helper if you don't have your own room x

I did the face the wrong way trick and got my sister to hold my dress. As long as you have someone to help that you're comfortable with it's the easiest way x

You will find a way that suits you on the day. I had my moh help me throughout the day and then realised I could manage on my own so long as I went front facing on the pan..wasnt ideal but was so much easier xx

You'll find it easier to.walk onto the toilet rather than turn around and use it the normal way. Also have you seen the bin bag trick?

I was panicking more about this than anything else in the end I think!
I got married nearly 3 years ago & had a massive princess dress, 11 layers plus my hoop!
I'm not a big drinker luckily but obviously people buy you drinks constantly- I didn't get to finish one full drink all day/night haha!
I was so lucky & held off needing the loo for the whole wedding, I literally went on the loo just before getting in my dress (got married at 1pm) & didn't put dress on until very last minute (yes we kept everyone waiting!) & I only had to leave my room them walk across the hotel to the room I was getting married in so it was nice & easy.
I must admit though by the time the evening was done & we went back to the room I was dancing about desperate to get out my dress so I could have a wee hahaha... Corset back dresses are not easy to get out of

You can buy a buddy for your dress. You wear it under your dress pulling a cord that brings all your dress into a net type thing allowing you to go alone to the toilet. Google wedding dress buddy xxx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

I had a princess dress and managed on my own with a piece of advice from a close family friend. Only works if you aren't wearing full tights. Basically you lift up front of dress, straddle toilet and sit and move underwear to one side. The rest is simple. Not a very dignified way but it is a lot simplier and easier the the conventional way. Xxxx

I got married 2 weeks ago and I was concerned about this cos my dress wasn't massive but was big enough and had a bit of a longish train but my sister got married last year and she told me what to do. All I did was lifted the hoop up and bunched the dress inside the hoop with some help from my MOH (my sister) and it was so easy to go then when u stand up u just let it go and it all just falls down and back into place x

Rather than back in to the toilet walk in and straddle. My bridal shop gave me this advice and it works a treat get someone to hold your dress from behind and it frees up your hands

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

2 words: bin bag. More specifically those big 100l ones. Cut/rip one single hole in the bottom, big enough for you to put both your feet through and bring it to just above your bum...no bigger! Step into it and gather your dress into it as you pull it up. Pull it as high as you need to be able to sit on the loo!
I managed to do it on my own but you can get a friend to help. Its the quickest, easiest and least embarrassing solution i could find!!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

I had 9 layers and managed ok! Take a bridesmaid with you when you need to go and if you have a hoop under your dress that'll hold your dress up nicely. Sit sideways on the loo xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

I was told the best way was to straddle the toilet so to speak and that works x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

you are apparently supposed to sit the other way around on the toilet so you can pull your dress up at the front. I didn't hear that until after my wedding though and I just tasked that to my mum & bridesmaid. I also did it for the bride when I was a bridesmaid xxx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

Have a bridesmaid you don't mind weeing in front of help you, and try going front facing on the loo, rather than backwards. I also found going to our room in hotel was better as bathroom was massive and there was no risk of the loo being dirty xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

I went by myself I found sitting backwards facing the wall with my back to the door worked for me but you can but things to wear under your dress that you use to scoop up your dress for going to the loo xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

My dress was pretty big, I managed on my own as I didn't want to ask for help, I sat normally and kind of twisted the train and skirt up then placed it in my hoop and held the whole thing up. It was really easy I practiced at home a few times with my dress on to find the most comfortable way. I also used the disabled toilet as there was more space in there..

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Apr 2017

This was my dress and it was about as big a skirt as they get! You'll need some help but get your dress all scooped up and sit down backwards! Our reception was in the hotel we were staying it so I used our bedroom bathroom as there was more room :)

UKbride Administrator

I didn't even think of this at my wedding and we had a marquee in a field so our toilets were tiny portaloos and even by the evening when I had had a few to drink I managed in the tight space I had with no help so I'm sure you'll be fine lol xx

Someone had shown me a video of a bridal buddy from the US where the petticoat had a zip cord in it and handles so you could pull it up inside out and use the pull cord to hold it while you do your business, then simply release it and you have no creases in the dress. Its on you tube. Anyway, I was a large bride so couldn't get one to fit me, so when I got my petticoat (from China for £15 each so I had 2 just in case) my mum tried to replicate it for me. It wasn't exact, no pull cord etc but the handles worked perfect with my A frame dress and it enabled me to go alone. Just as well cos I also woke up with an unscheduled period as well to deal with. Thankfully, it did the job and no dramas.
