We paid a deposit to hold the date so you definitely have the venue and date and then they normally ask for the final balance to be paid 8 weeks before the wedding depending on the venue some venues might say 6 weeks before just check the contract that you'll be given and ask the venue. We paid ours off each month leading up to the wedding to spread the cost so we knew for sure it was paid by the deadline date.
