Hey fellow brides, I wondered if anyone has done their own flowers? If so, did it go well, did it add extra stress getting what you wanted and arranging on the day? Thanks :)
I just saw a really nice tip from ukbride. Get your wedding guests to give you a flower as you walk up the aisle ans create your bouquet as you go! Or I also have a friend who has gotten all her friends to learn how to make paper flowers and they look pretty great! Maybe take a flower arranging course (groupon, wowcher, local florist) and see if your comfortable with it first and gives you a chance to ask questions to the probs without spending loads of money on flowers without a grasp on how to arrange them how you want them to be. Hope this helps
You can get hold of materials in any good florist and flower arranging at its basic level is easy! The problem i think comes down to timings, stress, keeping the flowers fresh , which you can do with special feeder and type of flowers you get, some are not easy or suitable for arranging. Basic arrangements bouquets and button holes all would have been done by the ladies of the family back in the days when no one used a florist! Cost wise again depends on flowers and if they are in season but you would save abit not paying labour and profit margin. You could go to a flower market for them rather than buy at a florist to that would save on retail prices.
I've just been looking at silk flowers. They're pretty cheap and a few people I've spoken to said you can't tell the difference.
I'm a bit of the sentimental type so I like that I'd be able to keep my flowers for our home
Important to store the flowers in a cool place when they arrive ..... Use pipe cleaners 2 wrap around stems after soaked in water so flowers can drink in bouquet ..... Look at flower training college & ask students to make the bouquet ....I am using a website that I discovered that is cheap that posts me the flowers to me two days before the wedding .... A friend of a friend will be making the bouquets for me .... I hope to visit & take photos as she creates my design ....
Like also the idea of guests handing the flowers as you walk down the aisle so you make the bouquet = Different ! ⭐️
I made my own flowers for myself bridesmaids and buttonholes. They were pretty easy to make and I got all the stuff on eBay. Far cheaper than getting some1 else to do it. Plus I got to keep them as they are foam
I made my own (artificial ones), really enjoyed it. I bought all of the bits I needed from the range and added to their ready made bouquets. Also did the same with the button holes. Cost me less than £30 for 4 bouquets and 10 button holes
I had paper flowers that I made and a friend did some too. You have so many patterns and colours to choose from it's lovely. It's not stressful if you start making them early.
I've been wanting to make my own flowers and I worked out it would cost me around £25-£30 for 4 bouquets and 12 button holes x
I made my own artificial bouquets really enjoyed doing them and got exactly what I wanted...had loads of compliments on the day too
I made all of mine out of silk and foam flowers. Bouquets, button holes and centre pieces etc. Caused no stress at all and was actually quite fun! Saved a lot of money too, think with buying in bulk we spent about 60 quid for everything
I'm doing artificial flowers. I've made a basket of flowers for my daughter to carry. I bought a wicker basket off ebay and a piece of oasis and got my flowers for it from hobby craft. I've also made buttonholes with flowers from hobby craft. I got my bouquet for a tenner off ebay and I've added some of my own artificial flowers to it. I'll be doing the same for my bridesmaids but with smaller bouquets. I am not creative at all but I found it really easy and enjoyed doing it. Plus I can keep them all :)
The Range have some stunning fake.flowers and cheap too. They don't look cheap either so if you aren't bothered about fake flowers then I'd recommend The Range :)
Nicki McCone some good advice here x
There are some florists that will provide sets of flowers or buckets of flowers for you to DIY, so they prepare them for you and have them delivered and you set them out, so kind of a half and half. Also taking a good look at artificial flowers, much better environmentally too.
I have done my own flowers. Using silk flowers means no time limit. You can find plenty of supplies from eBay.
I got a card for a local wholesaler of floristry items and silk flowers ... I've done my flowers the bridesmaids and buttonholes myself it's easier than you think and the price can be minimal while you get what you want / they're all in a box waiting for October now I don't have to think about them again
I myself am a florist so it really comes down to a few things. If you are artistic and have flowers in your home often and play about with them then yes do it give it a go. A florist can tell you all you need to know what are they in season are they gonna be kept fresh throughout the whole day. All the prep and work that goes into it is taken away from you so another less thing for you to worry about. So it's either give it a go and see. Or just bite the bullet pay that bit extra and get a professional service and no stress xx
I think if you dont mind artificial flowers then it is definately cheaper. There are many wholesalers to buy them from, and it's less stressful as they can be done well in advance. I did most of mine by buying large quantities of bouquets then splitting them up and cutting them down. Like this decorative box and chair decorations. X
I'm a qualified florist and doing mine. It's fairly simple but please don't do it on the day!! Get it all made the day before and just keep spraying and making sure any oasis you use is kept wet. For handheld bouquets keep them in water and just add ribbon the morning of the wedding.
From the first day planning my wedding I've realised I don't have a creative bone in my body so I'm paying for everything to be done for me plus I don't think I could deal with the stress x
I am making each flower for my bouquet and my bridesmaids....it's taking quote a lot of time but I want something different...each flower has 7 or eight layers....no one will have the same as me xx no pics in my phone otherwise I would have shared....xx
I found this, but I'm now not too sure if it's too expensive!?

It's the colour scheme I'm looking for.
Or this one: http://www.thebridesbouquet.co.uk/packages/fantasia- bridal-flower-package-artificial-roses
Or I might just do the idea of making our own, which is good one
I did the button holes and bouquets on the morning of my wedding, it was really easy and quite relaxing. There are tutorials on utube. My Dad and Aunt arranged the flowers at the venue in jam jars we had decorated.
