I'm getting married in May 2018 and am currently on maternity leave....

I'm getting married in May 2018 and am currently on maternity leave. Unfortunately, I am only statutory pay which is very little a month! I go back to work in 6 months, but really need to get saving for our wedding...whilst still paying for bills and the mortgage etc. Any tips on how I can save? Or is/has anyone else been in the same position as me?

Following! We are getting married in November 2019 and even though it feels like a long way off I know how quickly it will come around and we need to save up but also have a mortgage and 3 small children xx

Get one of those smashable money boxes. They have some nice wedding ones, which will remind you what your saving for. Then just decide what you are going to put in it. Any loose change, any notes left over on your purse, £2 coins or the new £5 note. It hold a nice amount of money x

I'm in same shoes, I found a way to save money by making thing on your own. I'm making my invitations, decorations, venue dressing and cake etc. There naked 5 tier for 149 pounds from Waitrose which you can add decorations and flowers on it. x

In exactly the same position!!!! We got engaged Jan 16 and booked wedding for July this year. Then found out we were expecting and had baby in November!! So Im currently on statutory Maternity pay with 4 months until the wedding. We have just accepted that we will not be able to pay it off before and will use 0% credit and keep chipping away and pay it off when Im back at work! Its hard and frustrating but at the end of the day try and enjoy it because it only happens once!! I also have been quite thrifty and clear with budget!! Good luck!!

Me and my partner get married in august this year and weve managed to do it whilst on one wage, we booked 2 years in advance and we worked out how many months we had and what we could realistically save each month from there which then gave us a rough budget total. Dont include months like december as its very hard to save whilst paying out for xmas etc but at least you'll have an idea on a realistic budget for your wedding by doing this and it shouldnt stress you out by putting away what you can afford each month :) xx

I went from maternity leave, to part time work all whilst planning my wedding. We've got one of the money boxes you smash that we put £2 coins in only. And I just buy something each month to spread it all out x

I was pregnant last year and on maternity as well when we started planing our wedding (we get married next month) and we cut out all of our luxurys and changed where we shop and the money we saved we put away and I wanted a big posh wedding but it just wasn't duable so we gave our self a budget of £3000 I found a lovely rustic pub with a function room that put up a marquee for an extra cost I'm in the process of making my own Favours and name places ect it is doable but it's hard. Good luck and I hope this helps x

Sell things! I'm selling my prom and pageant dresses to get money for my wedding dress :)

eBay has been our best friend through wedding planning! My wage basically covers our council tax each month as I'm part time, h2b wage covers mortgage and every bill including 3 children, so funds have been tight but try eBay for most things and as posted above a 0% credit card could help, Barclaycard do a good offer at mo with 43 month 0%. All the best xx

Do the penny challenge! We started on January 1st. You put in 1p the first day, then 2p the 2nd day and so on. The max you put in on a day would be £3.65, and you'll have £660 at the end. Me and the OH have both done one so we'll have £1320 by the end of the year. We don't get married till 2020, so we'll have £3960 just in spare change by the time the wedding comes round x

I am! We're trying to save but on maternity pay it's proving hard! I've found that if I put away £20-£40 every time
I get paid (weekly) I find it easier than putting a larger amount away monthly etc xx

Sell unwanted good on eBay. Old clothes, dvds etc.... that you don't need anymore. We did our wedding on a bit of a budget and there are loads of savings to be made. I wore an ex sample dress, fake flowers, my bms dresses were a bargain, we had a small cake make to look like a tunnocks tea cake and then had a tower of tea cakes (a lot cheaper than a traditional cake and a real talking point), call in favours from friends (hair, make-up etc....) xx

I'm in the same currently on maternity leave and getting married September 2018 but only going back part time. I changed all suppliers and insurance to get better deals, have 2 smash pots one for 5 pound notes and another for emergencies. Luckily our parents have told us they will contribute but we still have to make up the remainder. I am also making the invites, name place settings and anything else that I can.

We got landed with about 2 and a Half grand for vet bills so we really had to pull the belt in. Reception in the garden. Catered myself and did my own cake. It was lovely. Hard work though.

Have you thought of making a wedding 'gift list' that means your wedding guests contribute towards various things for your wedding? We offer this option for wedding photography at www.lightandimagination.com Beats getting kettles and toasters doesn't it? :)

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I have 2x money pots on the go but unfortunately they're going to have to smashed to get the £1 coins banked before they go out of circulation in October! Fab idea about the 0% credit card - hadn't even thought of that! X
