Is/has anyone else started to freak out/worry about how you're going to pay for your wedding? We have a 1&1/2 year old in nursery & my fiancé works full time & me part time! I want to get married how we both have realisitically planned what we want but dont want to get ourselves into all kinds of debt! Any save tips, words of wisdom etc welcomed :) x

Yes, you are not alone! Have you considered doing some DIY projects when it comes to favours and centerpieces etc? That's what we've decided on - definitely helps when you've got a strict budget! x

Initially we worked out how much we could afford to save each month and then booked the wedding based on that. Since then the budget has increased so I now do an extra day at work (2 instead of 1) it helps loads

Some companies let u pay so much leading up to the date which might help can pay as little and as much as u want with the best chance of getting things payed off or so much payed before your day x

We have been filling up money tins. We put all our 1 and 2 pound coins in there and the odd fiver. Full one theres 500 pound in the tin. We are on our third one. U dont notice it so much that way..then we have just paid off what we budgeted for each month. Best tip i can advise u is to over budget things. Its all the extras and add ons u dont realise. We have gone over by 2,000 pounds. Xx

Make a list of everything you need and set a budget per item and don't sway from it! Remember there's always a cheaper alternative!

Set yourself a date a few years away, don't go on holiday, cut back on luxuries, and save all the money you'd put into those things for the wedding instead

Yes we were the same. My advice is think about what you truly want and don't spend on unnecessary things, don't send save the dates just send invites in plenty of time, ask bridesmaids and groomsmen if they can chip in towards their clothes etc (I paid for bridesmaids dresses but they bought shoes n paid for hair and makeup, every groomsmen pair to hire their suit). Also rope talented friends in, my friend made our cake saving over £400, our friend was dj for us and my other friend did morning photography at my dads xx

Do what you can realistically afford and don't get caught up in the fantasy?

There's loads of ways to save! Shop around for venues, don't assume you have to go for the standard hotel package (we saved over £1000 on that alone), consider getting your dress second hand or from a high street shop/online, make the invites yourself, have artificial/dried flowers instead of fresh, ask about to see if friends or family can help with cake/photography/makeup etc. If not you can buy the basic cake and decorate yourself (saves about £150) and leave cameras on the tables as favours so guests can take their own photos :) Hope some of that helps, best of luck for your big day. xx

My partner is the one worrying about what we have to pay out. We have deposits down on everything but he's now wanting to cancel the videographer as feels a friend could do it. We are saving pennies by making our own favours, invites and my mum is making the table centre pieces and bridesmaids bouquets. I would consider trying to cut costs by diy'ing 😊 good luck 🍀 hope everything turns out the way yous both want x

Give yourself time! We planned and paid for ours in 2 years and spent around 15k but thats because neither of us had any responsibilities. Figure out how much you can each save a month without eating into all your spare cash, and then figure out an overestimate of how much your dream wedding will cost and then you"ll know how long you need to save for. Once you know that, add 3/4 months on top of that to allow for unexpected costs meaning you cant save one month and plan your wedding for then :)

I work full time but my fiance is in uni so we are getting married in 3 years time in order to save up :) xx

Don't panic. Figure out your savings, DIY where you can and if you need more you could always consider a 0% interest credit card. We got one from Sainsburys that's 0% interest for 24 months to help us pay for some of the larger stuff that we can then pay off bit by bit to buy us some more time xx

As soon as you have saved up for something, pay it off. Don't leave the money hanging around in your savings account as it is so tempting to just 'borrow' some. Try to use things you have already got like shoes and lovely undies for on the day. Make a candy table rather than a cart and buy the sweets from somewhere like Bookers.

Avin a weekday wedding is cheaper & if you've got friends & family that can make cakes bouquets etc then ask them 2 do so & say that'll be their gift 2 u

In my opinion you do what matters most and whats most realistic. We opted for a venue that covered the basics that we could also pay up aswel. We shopped around for everything we have got our photographer for 6 hours for £350 as we want the most special moments to be captured we dont need from morning to end captured so we got disposable cameras for evening. All in all our wedding is costing £5000. My partner works full time i am stay at home mum of 3. My son has additional needs so needs me 24/7. Theres things we would like but decided not to get because of money. I used the wish app for my favour boxes got 100 of them for £2. Xx

We have 3 kids, 1 in nursey and the others in before amd afterschool club. We have paid it off as you go along, everything we booked we saved the money and paid for it in full. It helped loads. We get married in August this year and only owe a bit on the venue x

Work out how much you can afford to save each month and then work out a budget for wedding (look at venues and see how much these are) and work out how long it take. It may take a few years to save but you could book the venue and just pay it off monthly x

Your not alone ive had my fair share of tearfull nights about this, we booked our wedding on the saturday and found out we were prgnant on the monday. My little one os now the same age as yours. Thankfully we had booked the venue 2&1/2 years in advance. It still ment we had cut back die to mat leave pay etc... we have managed to have everything exactly the way we wanted with budgeting well and shopping around lots. My best advice is too look around get lots of quotes. Xxx

Don't send save the dates, email everyone instead. Favours usually get left on the table or taken home and chucked out months later. Look at packages at venues but also look at register office & then venue. Good Luck.

I sell stuff on eBay and keep the PayPal account to pay for the little things. So far bought my underwear and jewellery paid deposit of hair and make up and there is money in there to get my shoes aswell. It feels like this stuff is free.

I think you will be surprised about how much people will offer to help. Girls at work have offered me alone of tiaras, garters and jewellery. My mother in law and sister in Law are paying for our cake.

It all helps to chip away at it. But above all budget well. Have everything written down. Good Luck

I got a deal on wowcher for an October wedding very cheap (2grand) for 40 day and 70 night time guests and gorgeous hotel! With food and drinks packages. My dress was from wed2be for 600 and I love it! Look out for deals and barter down prices ! When you ask for quotes for stuff try not to mention wedding as price just goes up! Good luck xxxxx

I'm not wanting to spend too much. I keep telling myself the day is about marrying the love of my life i.e. to have the ceremony and sign the certificate. Everything else is just frills...nice to haves. They aren't essentials. Think about everything for the day that's really important to both of you & don't waste money on the rest.
