Hi, could i have any advise on getting married abroad please?. Is it cheaper? Is it legal? Do I have to marry in uk first or after I get married abroad? Where is the best place to get married abroad? How do I go about getting married abroad? Thank you in advance ????

My local first choice holiday shop have a wedding fayre coming up. You could contact your local store and see if they are also having one. You would be able to gind out all the info you need x

Wouldn't say it's cheaper, but guaranteed something different & the sun! I went through a travel agent and sort all legalities myself with a solicitor before I fly. So yes, it's legal. All countries are different, do your research before booking and paying deposit for venue x

It all depends heat country you pick whether it is recognised in the U.K., we booked through Thomson, in their brochure it states everything you need to get married in each country and whether it is legally binding or just a blessing.
We got married in Cyprus and all is recognised in the U.K. And the marriage certificate is in English to so you don't need to get it translated when you return xx it really was easy and stress free xx

We are getting married in Dominica in October. It has definitely saved us a heap of money and the bonus on the money we have spent is that we're on a Caribbean island for 3 weeks with all our friends and family!
You will need to figure out where you want to go first then look into the marriage side of things. A lot of hotels have wedding planners that can help. But for us we need to be on the island for at least 5 days before the wedding and bring all our documents to the town hall. We luckily have my other halfs partner living on the island now which has made it easier for us with all the legal stuff.

It may work out cheaper for you for the wedding, but you risk sacrificing having guests there. I don't know you or your family/friends obviously, but some people who get married abroad lose out on a lot of their family and friends going to the wedding because it is just too expensive for them to get there. It's just something to seriously consider before booking. Would you prefer a wedding abroad or would you prefer all your family and friends seeing you get married? (This is not meant to offend anyone getting married abroad, everyone is different and has different preferences)

Getting married in Spain in 6 weeks. Wouldn't say its cheaper (just how we've done it) .. But it is legal. We are using a great wedding planner SunshineWeddingsSpain and they have dealt with the majority.

Travel agents are good, when i was looking into it they gave me all these brochures and in the back they have all the legal requirements for each country which is really helpful. It can work out a lot cheaper depending on where you go and how many guests you have. Some countries you have to stay there for over a week (not including day of arrival or weekends) before you can legally get married, which can make it alot more expensive, some only require you to be there for a couple of days before hand. I know a lot of people that have got married abroad and they all said it was an incredible and unique experience. Good luck x

We got married in Cyprus last year was about the same price as a U.K. Wedding including the holiday. I picked up a holiday brochure & saw all the places.. then went online & booked direct with Elias beach the hotel. Was much cheaper than doing it from a travel agents. The wedding planner at the hotel was amazing & helped me every step with all the legal requirements x

I loved the idea of getting married abroad, walking down the beach to my h2b sounded amazing,

For me it was more of a control issue, I can't just "pop round" to the venue when I wanted

We are getting married in Vegas it is not any cheaper (unless you go to one of the chapels and go alone and not have a dress) but we are having all of the same features as we would getting married at home. Downside not many people can come, and if your parents are in poor health like ours they can't make long-haul flights. It all depends, I just did did not need the stress of a UK wedding

I'm getting married in Cyprus in August went through a travel agents but ended up dealing directly with the venue as I was paying for services and the venue were far more helpful than the agents. It is legal and you have to do certain things for it to be legal. If you have any other questions or want information please pm me and I can answer as much as I can

We booked through Thompson and all the peperwork was arranged before we left. we did have to go the town hall and complete the paperwork there when we arrived. It depends where you get married as some countries require you to be in the country for a few days before you get married.

Knowing people who have got married aboard I wouldn't say it's cheaper plus you risk people that should be there not being able to afford it. however you can guarantee the weather will probably lovely and if you have a party when you come home you'll get to wear your dress twice :-D

We are getting married in Zante in May. It's definitely worked out cheaper for us. We only wanted close family and friends there, having a big party when we get home. Originally booked with Thomson who were awful managed to book with Zante weddings who have been amazing. Would definitely recommend booking with a wedding planner and not a travel agent xx

Thank you ladies for all your advice I don't speak to most of my family, my dad past over 2 years ago and I don't have nothing to do with the woman who gave birth to me and siblings. So it's only going to be myself, my partner, my 2 children, my partner's 2 children, my uncle and aunty, possibly best man, his wife and 2 children. I'm thinking of having a little do after we get back for my partners family (cousins, aunty, uncle), few of our friends and a very few of my family. So thinking of getting married abroad for the simple fact it's just us and we can have a holiday together too.

Sounds like a perfectly good idea to me in that case then x
