I've found my dress and its paid for, I just fell in love with it, I'm getting married August 2018 and now I'm saving up for alterations. Does anyone have any idea how much these normally cost? The dress is exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't bare to part with it because its showing a little to much cleavage and its almost a foot too long xx thanks in advance xx

The alterations depend on what you're having done, and who's doing them. Maybe find your seamstress if private, or if it's done in store, and ask for an estimate of how much the alterations will be. I think for roughly the same alterations we paid £80, but I can't be sure and I have no idea if that's average, expensive or cheap!

I would personally go to a seamstress outside of the one in the shop. I had ten inches taken in on my dress. Was £40 I did debate to have the train cut of and would of only been 80 ish. The dress was beaded where needed taking in to. Shop come from £200

Around £200. But if you bought from a shop they should advise you..

My shop did per type of alteration, but the entire job was capped at £250 (IYSWIM).

I needed the length, a bustle and the bust taken in and was about £200 overall.

Every seamstress is different. I had a bridesmaids dress that I had to pay for the alterations on, it was about an inch too long and had 2 layers and that cost me £70. My friend got married last year and had he neckline changed from straight to sweetheart, had it taken in and had it taken up (there were 4 layers) and that cost her £45 in total.

It'll depend on the dressmaker or shops fees but I was told between £100-£200 depending on what you need done!
I only had a wrist attachment added and a stick on bra and it was only £20! Luckily my dressmaker didn't feel alterations were needed and this bra thing she had in stock would do the job!

I was 150 to let the dress out and take it up but I had a lot of detail that had to be hand sewn back on

I haven't been given a final price but the lady said no more than £250. I have budgeted for that and obviously am hoping it will be a bit less!

I'm paying max £120. I'm short waisted and short so my dress is being shortend and straps shortened as well as it being taken in, but my dress shop has a policy of £120 max for alterations in house.

I bought mine in a shop and was going to cost £200 to have length taken up and taken in at sides

Be careful if taking to another seamstress other than where you purchased the dress. You won't be insured if they mess the dress up x

I paid £160 for them to take up half an inch from the bottom! I was livid and would never have had it done as it really didn't need it!!

My alterations cost £200 this was to have the waist and bust taken in, a bustle added and about 4-5 inches off the length of the dress. This was done at the store I brought my dress from. I could have got it cheaper outside but my logic is if the bridal store ruin my dress they have to fix the mess. If I go use an alternate seamstress then I have no protection. Hope this helps x

I contacted a shop and an independent seamstress (who did my sisters wedding dress and bridesmaid dress alterations) and the shop quoted me £200 and the independent lady who works from her home quoted me £75. I'm having the train taken off, length taken up, some appliqué removed and bra cups put in. Only way you'll know is shop around for quotes and ask friends/family if they know any seamstresses xx

Depends what you need doing. Mine only had to be lifted slightly and loops added for when I was dancing only cost £30

My was £98 and it was eventually altered down 3 sizes, changed the length a little and a hoop thing made at the back to hold the long train up when dancing and it was altered in ascot

If you allow £250 that should cover it, I've had quotes from £40 to £250 x

I had my dress taken up at the hem, taken in at the waist, extra boning put into the corset and I had the neckline altered so I could go braless. I paid £200 for all of that
