Just wondered what people's opinions were on face covering veils in a non religious ceremony?

personally I'm not having one as I think they are slightly old fashioned

That's exactly what I want. I love the traditional ways.

Love the idea of tradition. Shouldn't matter if your ceremony is religious or not. Go for it if it's what you want xXx

I had a religious ceremony and had my veil cover my face while I walked down the aisle. However I don't think that it is only religious ceremonies that you can do it with. Your wedding is completely what you want to do. If you want to do it then go for it! Who cares what anyone else says. Have an amazing day xx

I had my veil covering my face in a non religious ceremony. My husband loved lifting it off my face so he could kiss me xx

Oh and apparently it's not a religious thing...it's meant to ward off evil spirits...or so I've been told! Don't quote me lol x

I don't personally like veils over the face as I think it looks a bit old fashioned. Saw a lovely pic of one plaited into an updo though, which then hung down at the back. Looked really nice and a bit different. Think the pic was somewhere on michelle lindsell photography fb page x

I did, my view is why have a veil if your not going use it 'properly' and cover your face? But it's all personal preference! X

I don't like them. They make me think of arranged marriages where the bride is hidden from the groom til it's too late for him to back out I had a cathedral length veil, but only a single layer-nothing over my face.

My veil covered my face to walk up the aisle even though it was a civil service it was in an old monastery so felt right to do it x

I had a non-religious ceremony but wanted to walk down the aisle with my veil over my face as I liked the idea of my fiancé lifting it when I got to him and see me properly. Completely up to you, do what you want! X

Did a veil over my face the first time I was married (photo on right) but I was 25 and had a very traditional church wedding. 2nd time round I was 40 and 4 kids in tow therefore a veil felt a bit silly and pretentious therefore I wore it at the back of my head as it finished off my dress nicely. Up to you, depends on the venue and type of wedding I think.

The viel isnt anything religious, it was to keep evil spirits away and various other superstitions. Have one if you like them.

The reason for the veil covering the face is an old tradition where people believed covering the face warned off evil spirits. You can then uncover your face when the Groom says I do as he will then protect you
