I'm going to pick up my engagement ring at the weekend. I don't normally wear rings. Is there anything I should do/not do? How long will it take me to get used to it? I'm quite worried about damaging/losing it!

I felt the same. I never wear rings and was worried i would lose it. I ave gotten use to it fairly quickly though - Only been engaged just over a month. I take it off to sleep/shower and do the washing up. Other then that - It's always on. I keep my ring by my phone so when my alarm goes off, the first thing I do is put the ring on. Slowly it becomes part of your morning routine. You may have the odd day where you forget but it's ok - you're not alone :)

I'm paranoid about losing my rings. I only take them off to do washing up, having shower and put them in jewellery box. When I go swimming i only wear my wedding ring and I keep my engagement and eternity rings in jewellery box. Xx

I used to take mine off to shower and wash up etc, but one day i took it off to do a deep clean in the house and when i went to get it it wasn't there. Turned the house upside down looking for it. Luckily it was found in a box before it got chucked out. Now i never take it off x

Where we bought mine from recommended keeping it on in the shower to help keep it clean and in good condition (warm soapy water that's getting rid of the day's grime on me and the ring).

It all depends on the ring. What metal it is? You shouldn't wear it in water, sauna or when your sleeping.

I was the same, never ever wore rings until I got engaged at Christmas, it took me a month or so to get used to it and it rubbed my little finger for a while but now I barely notice it! I did take it off for moisturising but I was too worried about losing it so now it's firmly on all the time. More likely to lose it if you're taking it off every five minutes! They are built to last so I wouldn't fret about doing washing up etc whilst wearing it, pop we rubber gloves on if you're that worried :)

I never take mine off. Apart from while being pregnant I found my fingers swelling overnight so I took it off for bed.
Get it insured for damage and loss.
Make sure you really like it, don't settle for something that is 'ok' or 'will do' x

Make sure you try on different sizes. I had mine in the winter and it felt perfect but then in the summer when it was warmer i found it got a bit tight. I cant sleep in mine and worry about loosing it so im going to get a neklace to wear all the time to put it on if u take it off at home

If it's a diamond ring don't touch the diamonds as you will ruin them. I got used to mine very quickly, I'm not allowed to wear it for work but it's the first thing I put on when I'm home. Clean with washing up liquid and a baby toothbrush x

I only take mine off for work as work in a hospital. If your ring is white gold it will become yellow using antibacterial gel as the white coating comes off. I had mine changed to platinum because of that. I also have a simple band ready for after wedding for work as my wedding ring also has diamonds in it and no stones in rings allowed at work

depends one which material u have white gold tarnishes really quickly if ur cleaning or anything like that the rhodium plating comes away

I am the same I never wore rings but after a month or so I got used to it. I still need to get a necklace chain for mine though because I'm a vet so I take it off to operate and the number of scares I've had trying to remember which pocket it's in... I know lock it in the controlled drug cupboard but it's not ideal!

I wear mine 24/7 only take it off now n again to give it a good clean or if I'm hand mixing while baking I'm sure you'll get used to it really quickly.

I got used to mine fairly quickly and I don't wear jewellery either. I only take it off when in the shower as I don't want it to slip off and I wear rubber gloves when doing my dishes. I actually forgot to put it back on today after a shower and I don't know how many times my heart sank today as I thought I'd lost it while in work. you'll notice its off more off than on in no time

I take mine off for showering and moisturising but that's only because it's white gold. I get married in 3 months and don't plan on taking either ring off after that. I usually find my heart sinks quite a few times thinking I've lost it when I do take it off you will get used to it very quickly! I never wore rings that weren't flat, my ring has 3 stones on a crown so sticks up quite a lot but I forget it's there now xxx

I didn't used to wear rings and found mine really heavy at first. I had to keep taking mine off in the evening but it only took about a month to get used to it. Now it feels strange without it. I take mine off if I'm cleaning or cooking as I don't want to scratch it or get it dirty.

Have to admit I rarely wear mine as worry about ruining it or scratching my baby with it! I wore it to start with but couldn't wear it at work and didn't want to wear it around my horses so that meant I barely had a chance to put it on

I'm a vet nurse and I never take it off! I just wear gloves :) plus my knuckles are slightly wider than my finger so it takes some effort to take it off! :) Xx

I don't wear any jewellery but TBH my ring fits well so I don't even feel it there

Ive only been engaged a week amd a bit and keep catching myself of guard with it being there. As suggested above i also take mine off for showers and washing up, but also took it off for my fitness class this week as my hands swell up haha!

I only take mine off when I moisturise. Mine is white gold so has to be dipped once a year or so because it does start to yellow so that's something to consider. I don't have a high set stone because I didn't want it catching on anything. My friend couldn't wear hers when she had her baby because it was high set and scratched the baby. I have also heard terrible things about H Samuel in that when people have taken their rings in to be cleaned, they have been returned with the hallmark missing. I didn't choose my ring but my h2b knew what sort of thing I liked and went to 23 different stores before returning to the first store and choosing the first ring he looked at.xxx

Mine is pretty unique and a few days after i got it broke into several pieces, i took it back to the jewellers who because it was a newly created design fixed without charge, its been fine since. I would recommend careful wearing if its an emerald the stone is soft and prone to cracking in change of temperature. Diamonds are tough but keep them out of cleaning products all the same. Get them professionally cleaned every so often. Make sure the metal is the same carat to ensure equal wear.
