My sister is wearing a wedding dress to my wedding :| I'm 37 and our wedding is 2 weeks on Saturday. My 14 year old half-sister and chief bridesmaid wanted to wear my mum's wedding dress (from when she married my stepdad). Although it was cream it was a simple silk gown and quite plain. Given its sentimental value I was happy with this as my dress is a full on tulle princess A line affair. My 3 adult bridesmaids are wearing dusky pink bridesmaid dresses. Yesterday, my mum told me my sister no longer fits in this dress and was understandably upset. My mum took her to Monsoon unbeknownst to me and bought her an IVORY LACE WEDDING DRESS with a crystal belt. Given my sister is slimmer, more beautiful and wearing gysophilia in her hair, I'm very upset that she's now going to look like a bride and wearing an actual wedding dress. When I expressed my concern, my mum said tough, that's what she's wearing. I'm upset I wasn't even consulted. I just wanted to feel beautiful and princessy for one day and worry that if I insist my sister doesn't wear this dress, they'll end up not coming to the wedding. A compromise would be to suggest she wears a dusky pink wrap over it I suppose. Thank you for taking the time to advise while I weep at my desk.

To be honest I think it would be very angry and upset too. If she is not prepared to change the dress and you fear they may not attend, I'm not sure what to suggest. Your dress sounds lovely and a lot more bridal than hers, so I really would not worry about being upstaged. If anything, guests may question her choice of dress?

I would be infuriated. I would say to your mum that its a new dress so it should have tags on take it back and get a refund and you will get her a pink dress. Its your day to shine I'm sure in future years when your sister gets married if you showed up in a wedding dress she would be really unhappy, say that to her. Ask her how it would make her feel.

I would be livid. Everyone knows there's an unwritten rule of not outdressing the bride on her big day and that was obviously not respected by your mother or your sister. Personally I would say change dress or you're not getting in but that's me xD it's your day NOT HERS so you set the rules.

I would be absolutely fuming! Shame o them both for having the nerve to even do such a thing and then not consider your feelings when you talked to them about it. End of the day - It's YOUR weddin, so no-one is going to care what your sister is wearing, but try talking to them again and say how it is making you feel, and be honest. It is YOUR day. Worse case is that they get abit pissed and then there is a row - Big deal, it won't stop your day from happening. And if they are understanding enough then they will come round. Wish you all the best xxxxx

That's just wrong! Everyone knows it's etiquette that nobody except the bride should wear ivory or white to a wedding anyway, but a wedding dress? That's a dreadful thing for your mum and sister to have done. I would risk stating now that it's not going to happen, that she has to get another dress if she wants to be a bridesmaid, or the upset of this this is going to spoil your enjoyment of the build up to your day. Better to get it all out now and sorted than be fuming and upset for the next couple of weeks. They should have known better! x

How did it go in the end, love? Did she wear the dress? x

Hi I think your MOTHER and Sister are very inconsiderate where your feelings are concerned. Sorry to hear that you are so upset. :)

I would make her refund it! It's your day, she should not be taking the light away from you. Every store has a refund policy, say you will buy her dress and you won't them looking the same.
