I made sure to ask them about how I was allowed to decorate the reception room as they didn't allow anything on the walls etc, just a small tip that hopefully helps x

Venue capacity, what their package includes, prices for extras, overnight accommodation charges, if they have a list of recommended suppliers and any limitations they may have xx

Really important one, make sure they have public liability insurance! Any venue that doesn't is dodgy x

Evening buffet - our venue had a cheaper option of bacon/sausages sandwiches which wasn't in their brochure but half the price. If you're having children there what do they do about menus. Most places do half price of main menu but again ours did up to 3 courses (each child could be different which was great cos we had some who wouldn't have eaten 3!) at £6/7/8. Do they have a set dj you need to use. If it's a big venue with grounds can they show you options for if weather is bad (i.e. Other places in the venue you could have pics or is it just in the main room etc)

Always ask if u want to make changes to the package we were quoted for arrival drinks of Prosecco but asked if we could switch half for bottles of beer ... also see what they'll chuck in ... we're getting married at a country club with a golf course and we've got a round thrown in for the OH x

Ask what you're allowed to decorate with!
Day before my wedding they banned the things I bought to hold my bunting up with, and I'd made a lot of bunting!
A solution was found but still something I'd not thought about until last min that could have potentially changed the whole image of my day x

We looked at our first venue today and these are the questions I asked :) x
1) Can our date be booked?
2) How many guests can you accommodate?
3)Do you have a wedding licence?
4)How long can we have the venue for?
5)Will there be other weddings on the day?
6)Would we be able to come decorate before hand?
7)What are the guidelines on decorations?
8)Can we see sample menus?
9)Do you have disabled access/facilities for children?
10) When do we have to pay our holding deposit?
11)Is VAT included?
12)Do you have car parking available?
13)Do you have liability insurance?
14)Is there a hotel discount included?

What time is the bar until?
If the venue does a package including chair covers and bows but you go over the number, the venue charges extra per head, this is £pp for the food/drink. Check that the extra chair covers etc included or an extra charge.

Do all prices quoted include VAT! If they don't that's an extra 20%. Will they put out favours and any table decoration.
Do they have any suppliers you have to use?
If you're having children do they put an age limit on what is considered a child, one venue we saw classed all children over 8 as an adult.

If there are rooms for guests onsite, find out what time they can check in on the day - it may influence the time you book for your ceremony

What is the deposit for securing a date? When are interim payments likely due & what are their respective % of total estimated cost? If there are bedrooms available @ the venue, when are they available for the bridal party and/or guest check in? If you thinking of live music, what is their decibel limit (noise level)...this could determine max. size of band? Any amendment/ cancellation charges?

Ask about what confetti can be used - some places have banned the traditional paper confetti, but they may allow natural confetti. Seems odd,but ask if there are any limitations on footwear. We looked a venue that wouldn't allow stiletto heels. It was historical, and stilettos can cause a lot of damage. If you're inviting children, ask if they do special menus or if they offer the adult meal at half price. Ask for any recommended suppliers including photographers. Remember the groom on DTTB who was caught out because he didn't ask about VAT - this is currently at 20%,so ask if their quote includes this

Hidden costs!!! Chair covers and tie backs. Also our venue is a package deal but we have to pay for our evening guests to eat which we thought was all included.
