Hi, looking for advice on booking the photographer, my wedding is in October and I've not found one yet. Have many of you previous brides booked a photographer without meeting them first or would you really advise meeting them before booking? Tia x

Definitely advise meeting them and discovering what the style of photography they do and how they'll match with your day!

I didn't meet with mine, I can tell from the vast number of pictures on their website it's exactly what I want

I personally would meet with them first. Nothing worse than spending your whole day with someone you don't gel with or who doesn't match you style

My husband is a wedding photographer and usually meets with clients first because it helps them to relax when he's there on the day because they already know what he's like x

Didn't meet ours however had an hours plus conversation on the phone to get to know each other and talk about what we wanted etc. Will meet beforehand though for a pre wedding shoot which hopefully will help with nerves of formal photographs! Previous client testimonials and their portfolio were enough for us to decide if we wanted their style of photo.

Hi I'm a wedding photographer based in Bedfordshire, I would always advise couples to meet me first because it's important to click with your wedding photographer! If you can laugh with your wedding photographer and you have a connection with them then photos generally come out better because the best photos are when people are relaxed! Feel free to message me, have a great time planning your wedding! X

I met mine at a wedding fayre and saw how amazing she was and also her work! I would definitely say to meet them first, it's all good and well choosing someone that has amazing work, but what if you don't like them?? You are going to feel so uncomfortable all day and do you really want that on your wedding day!? X

I would really advice meeting them before! We went to they house for a chat, look through they portfolios and discussed what we wanted and they packes! One we couldn't get on with and the other one we had such a good time with, like they was our friends! Photographers are going to be a part of your big day, so you have to feel comfortable around them!

I'd definitely meet them. Ours was recommended by friends and he came to see us at home and brought his portfolio. We clicked straight away and both liked him so we booked him. I'd only book without meeting them if you've already seen their portfolio of work and they've been recommended x

We meet couples before taking wedding bookings it's very important that you click personally with your photographers who are often with you throughout a long wedding day, we also now provide free wedding pre shoots to show them how we work and give them a practice about four weeks prior to the day.

Many photographers offer a pre-wedding shoot where they get to know you and you get an idea of their style

Definitely meet them if you can. In my head I had picked a photographer but when we met her I didn't like her at all - neither did my fiancé. We ended up going with someone different who we both clicked with immediately. Can't wait to have her with us on the day!!

When I first went to visit my photographer I was underwhelmed by their premises and shop and had my doubts, however when I saw their beautiful work and met them face to face my opinion changed. It didn't matter about their shop it's their wedding services, personality and passion I was paying for! :)

Definitely meet them and go through their portfolio and what style they are. If you can go on a recommendation that's even better

Definately meet them!! We had a huge problem with our photographer, came recommended by the venue, we were sent a portfolio and loved the images so we booked and paid deposit, somehow he managed to knock 500 off the price and throw in a photo booth aswell. On a whim last month I went on their Facebook page and I was distraught the pictures were disgraceful, looked like they had been taken on a mobile phone and had really bad reviews. I cancelled him and put a message out to desperately find a photographer (we get married in april) one came recommended by 3 people and I couldn't believe that he was available so we went to meet him, his studio was fantastic, beautiful images and a lovely guy. So we booked him, he's nearly twice what the original photographer was but we have cancelled a few luxuries and I guess you get what you pay for! Definately meet them before hand and do research on all websites. We are so lucky we got another one.

We first saw our photographers at our very first wedding fayre only a couple of weeks after getting engaged. We were instantly drawn to their work and on going over to say hi, got a really good feeling about them also. They didn't pressure us at all and let us just take a look at their work in our own time. We went away not booking them as thought we surely couldn't book the first we saw even though we really liked them. We even looked around at what other photographers had to offer to make sure we wasn't caught up in the excitement of being newly engaged but we compared them to every other photographer we looked at and no others seem to grab our attention the same so we got back in contact with them and booked them! Best decision we made. Suzy and Alex are such a lovely couple, they make you feel so relaxed and it's just like having a couple of extra friends at your wedding with you. They are super talented and you certainly won't be disappointed with their work, they capture your day perfectly!!
I cannot recommend them enough! Take a look at their work on their website....http://www.suzywimbournephotography.com/

No. Meet them. Look at their work, but definitely meet them. You've got to be comfortable with them and you must check their work. I hope you find someone x

We booked before meeting, but the package included an engagement/pre wedding shoot and we just decided that if the worst came to the worst and we didn't like them during that meet we'd forfeit the deposit and cancel. However, we loved them when we met them, and on the wedding day they were absolutely perfect. (If you're interested, Anna and Mike at Luna Weddings. Based in Tavistock, Devon but will travel anywhere). Can't praise them enough.

Definitely meet them. I think you need to get on with a photographer as they need to take the photos you want and understand what you are after xx

Most would want to meet you beforehand anyway I would have thought. Even if its just to learn a bit more about you and what you were looking from them. I guess because I booked a local company it was easier for them. However when I was looking for quotes, photographers as far as 100 miles away were covering my area too, so I guess its more difficult for them to meet up beforehand.

Definitely meet or have a phone consultation first! I originally booked with large photography & videography company without meeting but once i'd paid the deposit the lack of correspondence from them was very unprofessional & worrying. I then found another photographer who insisted on meeting or phone consultation first which really put me at ease & we just clicked! I Don't make the same mistake i did! i'm also getting married in october
