{"FB":true,"content":"#MEMBERREQUEST - We're going on honeymoon to Mexico in May and would like to go on plenty of trips\/excursions. What is best to do? Do we book before we go with the high street travel agent we booked the honeymoon with or wait until we're out there and find a local company? Everything with the travel agent is so expensive. Thanks x"}
Xcaret park is amazing and you can book before you go so it's cheaper. Then coco bongos, senor frogs ... hotels do some fab island trips xx
Xel Ha - an eco water park, an absolutely amazing day out. We booked with the rep in resort but if we went back, I would try to book direct online before I went.
We've booked Xcaret park already for April through the travel agents. We spoke to people that have already been and they said it is cheaper to book there but you run the risk of their not being any places left. We dont intend on going back to Mexico again so would rather have it all booked for when we go xxx
Xcaret, Xel-ha & Coba are all really good! Worth the money!
We go in July on our honeymoon!
We went to Mexico not for honeymoon but on holiday. You are better booking when you are there. We went in June. We went to senor frogs, James bond theme, pirate ship, hard rock cafe. Xx
If your near Cancun/Playacar I defo recommend the Purification Ritual, sounds a bit naff but we had the best time! We booked through Thomson for it.
We stayed in a Riu and booked with tout who was at the hotel when we got there stationed out by the pool daily. And often the entertainment staff at the hotel can get you into clubs for cheaper usually drinks inc. Found all this cheaper than booking through the travel agents. We swan with dophins and went to Xplore which a brilliant activity park.
We go to Mexico on 30th may for our honeymoon SSteve Hurt
I go may cant wait
We always pre book excursions through Viator, we've done things in Vegas, Santorini and on city breaks and its just no hassle at all, usually a bit cheaper or same sort of price too x
Been to most of the organised trips in Mexico xcaret is one of my faves but by far the best thing we did was go to Akamul beach we stayed in riveria maya so cost us about £10 in a taxi each way. On the beach is a scuba shop where you can hire life jackets $5 and snorkels (we had our own snorkel) you swim out about 50 yards and there pop up turtles - it is amazing! There are people trying to get you to pay for guided tours - but there really is no need - do not pay to go on the beach. There is a great restaurant on the beach which does great food. Just take eco friendly sunscreen (also sold in surf shop if you forget) and take your go pro or waterproof camera.
Captain Hook pirate evening boat trip in cancun.
myan village (really eye opener) and lazy river with lunch and an hour on paradise beach.
Swim with dolphins at xcaret I think it is
We booked with the rep when we got there
Book out there. There's so many people around the hotel or in hotel selling excursions. Also some taxi journeys are better than sitting on a coach. X Hela zip wire day was brilliant!
We went to Mexico at the end of last year and absolutely loved it but we're surprised at how expensive trips were. We heard amazing things about coco bongo- but went with our son so couldn't go but we did go to xel-ha which we all really enjoyed and if you booked it xacaret you got a discount. We didn't notice any difference between booking through the desk at the hotel, the flyers and the website. Have a great time!
We go on our honeymoon to Mexico end of April beginning of may so this is a good question for me to follow xxx
We went to mexico in may for our honeymoom we booked all trips with our rep whilst out there. We stayed in riveria maya... went to tulum beach (highly recommended) the sand is just like walking on talc! Amazing... we also done the captain hook boat trip in cancun! Fabulous! Food is gorgeous that they provide, lobster and steak amazing. Also xel ha is fabulous too, really relaxing water park, we also swam with dophins too. All booked whilst out there :-) xx
We went to Mexico on our honeymoon. It is cheaper to book the excursions there but you run the risk of there not being any availability. I also liked knowing everything was sorted and ready tbh! We went to coco bongos (night club come las vegas style show), Xel Ha, and Chichen Itza. Strongly recommend all 3, especially chicen itza and xel ha! Xel ha is an eco-park, lots of snorkelling, nice food, zip wires, lazy river etc....chichen itza was really good - we always try to do the cultural bits when we go away but this was actually interesting and not dull at all. We booked through thomson and the tour guide was making us all cocktails on the bus haha. Cogo bongos is good, we are kinda old before our time so I'd say it was our least favourite as we aren't party animals, but glad we went xx
We went last May for our honeymoon and did Xplor and Captain Hooks. Both were great. We booked both with our travel agent
Simon Moore
We did chicken itza, coco bongos (VIP experience is amazing!), tulum walled city and jungle zip wire trek (also amazing!!), we also went to the Isla convoy which was absolutely stunning!! We booked when we were there on the first day as chic hen itza and coco bongos sell out quickly! Have an amazing time!! Xx
We booked whilst we were there. Xcaret was brilliant x
We went end of June beginning of July for our honeymoon, we stayed in the hotel next to xcaret eco park and had unlimited access, it was amazing would highly recommend, but you will need more than a day to see it all. We swam with dolphins at the park too. We also pre-booked to go chichen itza, that is also a must see. Whatever you do have fun, it is absolutely stunning out there
We went to Mexico in September and got engaged there. You have to go to Chichen Itza and Cenote Ik Kil. It was a 3 hour drive from our hotel but wow was it worth it! It was an excursion at the hotel and we went down to cancun town and it was the same price their than they were offering at the hotel so we just went with them. This is Cenote Ik Kil! It's amazing. The water is freezing but so refreshing. X
Get a gold ticket for coco bongos!!!!! Won't regret it, it's incredible
I did Xcaret, speedboat and snorkeling, chichen itza, Cocobongo club, Spanish Galleon night, swimming with dolphins... think that's it and it was amazing!
My husband n I recently went to Mexico on our honeymoon - highlights... Xel-ha is beautiful place food n drink included all day so much to do for all... paradise beach in tullum best beach In the world... akumal bay Snorkel with sea turtles DO NOT pay for a guide u don't need one! Hire life jacket n mask etc if needed from the dive shop on the beach n off u go don't be fooled by the guides - playa de carman good for a walk around - we went scuba diving as divers - CoCo Bongo is an amazing night out shows amazing n great fun. Only go if u pay for VIP as u get a seat n waiter service otherwise u get squashed on dance floor. It usually has a waiting list so book early. Book through the rep when there we found it surprising cheaper... also what shark season when U go so snorkelling with the whale sharks is once in a life time ! where abouts are u staying in Mexico? We stayed riveraya maya so all the above was close. U will have an amazing time !
I'm going in October for my honeymoon?to cancun? Is this close to all the excursions and How much on average is each one? So exciting!!xx
Most hotels can arrange them for you, that's what I did. Definitely visit Xel-ha it's amazing and also x caret xx
Book things online when you are there and shop about. The reps there rip your arm off.
We booked ours via the Thomson reps when we were out there! We thought it was reasonably priced. Plus you usually get a deal by booking so many through them!
We did Xcaret, The speedboat through mangroves to sea & snorkelling, the catamaran out to the island with a dolphin trip, coco bongos! Cocobongos it's worth the VIP package! We're so glad we did it.
We booked through our Thomson rep when we was out there- we did swimming with the dolphins at discovery cove, chichen itza, bar crawl and coco bongos (which is fab) speedboat with snorkelling , Captain Hook boat experience there is so many you can do if it's with thomsons now have a page where you can book before you go may help you budget! Have a fab time I Mexico x

We did the pitate boat. The speedboat through mangroves to sea & snorkelling, the catamaran out to the island with a dolphin trip, coco bongos! We were on our honeymoon and this was a trip of lifetime for us. There is plenty to do out there
Not sure if already been said but definitely Xcaret....a big zoo place and you can swim with dolphins ( I did), and visit the club Coco Bongos too xx

Not been to Mexico. .. but always found it cheaper to book locally.. The hotel ur staying at will Def have trips n stuff you can book..
make sure you do xplor fire! it's amazing, we loved it!!
We booked when we got there - it may be more expensive but we went all inclusive, so we didn't have to worry about money. It meant as well that we could just pick what we wanted to do and when :) We went swimming with turtles in Akumal with swimming in cenotes and meeting some of the locals in their villages (we got blessed my a shaman which was amazing) and had lunch with them, which they cooked for us. We also visited Tulum - again, gorgeous! Lots of ruins, only advice would be to wear a hat as there's no shade from the sun. Then we went to Coba to look at the ruins there. You can hire a bike (I'd strongly recommend) for 10 pesos and cycle through the jungle to see all the ruins. We climbed the tallest one, (you're allowed) and the view is awesome!
Gosh, I sound like a travel guide! But it was truly amazing!
They were only two excursions (The turtles, cenotes and villages were one excursion and Tulum and Coba were another) I think it cost about 200 pesos each for both, which isn't bad at all :) x
I go may playa del Carmen 🤗
Following this as we go on honeymoon to Riviera Maya in September
We are staying at akumal bay beach and wellness resort. Just wondering if some of these places you've mentioned are within distance for us or too far to visit x
Xplor is amazing - zip wires etc. Swimming with whale sharks may be in season in may also. Also Xel ha is amazing water park with swimming with Dolphins etc x x
