I've seen some beautiful black bridesmaids dresses but can I ask my bridesmaids to wear black? I think some of my bridesmaids would say no? What other dark colour bridesmaid dresses have people gone for?

If you’re worried about them saying no to black, what about a deep purple, navy blue or forest green? Suggest the black first, it is your wedding after all x

Your bridesmaids should respect your wishes as the bride, and if you have a colour theme in mind that is 100% yours and the grooms choice. Black bridesmaid dresses look beautiful, maybe create a mood board first to show them your vision 😊x

We have navy. They looked stunning ❤ but I have been to a wedding with black bridesmaid dresses and they were lovely. Your wedding so if that's what you want xxx

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Their your bridesmaids you choose the colour and style, unless they are paying for the dress then they should get an input x

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Why would anyone say no to wearing black?!? Do they not want to look good? 😂🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I wore a black bridesmaid dress x

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Why not add silver accessories to compliment the black dresses

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

They don’t get to say no, it’s your wedding, have what you want xx

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I know it's personal preference but if I was a bridesmaid I'd love a black dress, it's so flattering on everyone and easy to style 👌

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I'd wear black, it looks great

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

My bridesmaid wore navy, like the best man. Honestly, I know more women that would be reluctant to wear pink than black at a wedding!

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I wore a black bridesmaid dress to a friend's wedding... gorgeous! Had an ivory silky sash to match the shoes...

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I wore black at my best friend's wedding as MOH. Her wedding was black tie. She wanted a 'cocktail party' feel for her wedding x

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I would be all over a black bridesmaid dress 💃🏼

However maybe a dark navy or dark emerald?

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Everyone loves black!! Honestly it's your day!!

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

You two get to choose, it’s your wedding. I do think if they are paying for the dress then they should get a big say in the style/cut of it so they are comfortable, but not the colour. I only had one bridesmaid (plus 3 flower girls), I let her choose the style and accessories but I chose the colour (I was paying but wanted her to be comfortable and feel awesome too). Just say this is our colour scheme, what styles were you guys thinking? Don’t ask about the colour, distract onto the style!

I had navy for my wedding and some of the younger bridesmaids had trimmings of white too! But my mum's wedding her theme was black and white so me and my sister had black bridesmaid dresses! We wore white accessories with it! X

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

If that's what you want then I don't see why they should say no. It's your day and your colour scheme. I think black could look gorgeous.
I'm having navy so mine are dark and they look lovely xx

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I'm alternative but lean towards goth, I've picked a white lace dress with a blush underlayer for my dress and my MOH is wearing a black dress I got for £45 in the sale from ASOS, they have some beautiful black bridesmaid dresses and they are really well made too for around £75 full price

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I had navy and I think they were lovely. I considered black first but decided to go a little lighter with the navy.

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

I wore black as a bridesmaid for my best friend, it looked lovely xxx

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

It's your wedding!! Have you never seen 27 dresses!? You pick whatever you want and if they don't want to wear it, my reply would be, well you don't have to be a bridesmaid. You do you beautiful lady! ❤️

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

My friend had black dresses for her bridesmaid and dress code was black tie for guests....it looked stunning. Your wedding, your rules!

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Have black if you want to have black, it’s YOUR wedding, and as above if they don’t like it or don’t want to wear it then they don’t have to be in your wedding party, but I wouldn’t dare tell a bride I’m not wearing the colour she picked for me it’s just rude x

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Mine are wearing navy blue

UKbride Member 22 Oct 2020

Your wedding, your choice!!! Xxx

You can gave whatever colour you want its your special day x

UKbride Member 23 Oct 2020

Surely it’s your choice as the bride? I would never dream of refusing to wear a particular colour if I were a bridesmaids. Besides, Black is universally flattering so I shouldn’t imagine it’ll cause too much fuss 🖤

UKbride Member 23 Oct 2020

A black bridesmaid dress is one more likely to actually be able to be worn again. I would have worn mine again if I hadn't bust the zip and had to be sewn in on the wedding day and then cut out at night. 🙃

UKbride Member 23 Oct 2020

I had black bridesmaids dresses as our colour scheme was black and bright orange, they were Audrey Hepburn style dresses and they looked gorgeous, plus it’s a nice little dress that could be worn again

UKbride Member 24 Oct 2020

I'd say your bridesmaids where what you tell them to wear 🤷🏽‍♀️. I made that mistake and I didn't love mine but they were nice.
If you do compromise, what about a deep purple or burgundy?

UKbride Member 24 Oct 2020

My friend had her bridesmaids dressed in black. It was stunning. Xx

UKbride Member 25 Oct 2020

My bridesmaids are going to be in black! I have my maid of honour who is the same age as me (ie NOT 25 😏), my fiancé's daughter who is 27, my daughter and 2 of her friends who will be 14 at the time. With all the different ages, body shapes and personal requirements we decided on black as it is the easiest colour to get a match. Initially I was making them all bit more just the maid of honour one.

UKbride Member 26 Oct 2020

I wore black as a bride and my bridesmaids ivory ... I cant imagine though they would have disagreed the other way round.... I wore pink last year for my brother and that's a colour I would never wear x

UKbride Member 26 Oct 2020

My sister in law had black bridesmaid dresses with pale pink waist bands, they looked stunning. Your wedding, your choice.

UKbride Member 26 Oct 2020

tbh its the brides decision dont like it dont waste her wedding space, with weddings being brought down to 15 guests atm just be flattered they actually include you! x
