Wedding price

1 Hey everyone, I just wanted to ask a quick question. For those getting married next year, if the government guidelines for the numbers of guest remains lower than your what your package includes, are you still paying for the full amount? I had thought you should pay for your guests you have but our venue says we have to pay for the full amount even if we can only have 15/30. Just wanted know what everyone else was doing ????

Our venue is the same, we would have to pay for the numbers stated in the contract, which is why they have advised postponing until they can provide our dream wedding and to not cancel

We have been told the cost will be altered according but we can postpone if we want more guests than the guidance allows

Our venue are letting us change package if we need to.

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

Altered and difference refunded

We got married this sept. We were meant to have 60 day 100 night guests but unfortunately it became 30 and they could only offer us a wedding breakfast and nothing more. However due to us signing a contract for that amount of people, and the venue were unable to carry out what we paid for they recalculated the price for 30 people with table dressings and any extras and refunded us the difference. So if they can not stick to your contract they are actually breaking it and should pay you the difference

My venue, Leeds Castle, said they won't host a wedding of 15 guests anyway so if that's the case then they will cancel, but if our wedding goes ahead for only 30 guests we will be reimbursed.

If we were to go ahead with less than our contract states our venue will adjust the price. Very cheeky for your venue to ask for the full amount even though they are not holding up their end on the contract

We got married in September, the venue allowed us to reduce from 50 to 30 (day time)- originally the evening was 180!
I personally don’t see why they would not honour this, you are still paying for a service, possibly try asking them to remove the package and just pay per person and for the additional services / goods etc required? That’s what we did. Good luck xxx

Ours has a minimum amount of guests for booking so I assume even if I have less than that I will have to pay for the minimum amount anyway as it includes the venue hire and food - if that makes sense! They won’t charge me for the full quota!

Our venue have given us to option to hold the wedding for 15/30 or postpone free if charge. We’ll have the price difference refunded back to us as they will create a bespoke package for us.

Altered and the difference refunded 🙂

We had paid for our ceremony before
Covid really hit the uk. We postponed our original date in May and postponed originally until Aug. We went ahead in Aug with our ceremony and postponed our reception until next year but we sought legal advice which confirmed if the venue cant deliver what we planned due to covid restrictions, we are entitled to a full refund as its them not able to fulfill the contract not us cancelling

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

We have a contract for 50 minimum so if we were to go ahead with a 30 limit we would still be paying for the 50. They've advised if reductions are still in place to postpone so they can still give us our day as originally imagined x

Keep an eye on what venue is saying Sinead Halton Catrina Halton

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

No, we will just pay per head for food.

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

Our venue have said the venue hire would be the same... we were supposed to pay for a minimum of 80 guests for food but they have said if we’re only allowed 15/30 then we pay for that food wise x

We’ve decided to elope and get married in Cornwall. Just us two no guests.

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

Our venue wanted the full amount but after some haggling we postponed until October next year. God forbid we are still in the same situation then they have agreed to renegotiate the cost x

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

We’ve just booked for July. Decided to move the ceremony to our garden then instead of hotel we hired a hall within a private club for a party. Small deposit with the option to move the date if needs be. Only having 20 to the garden and a private caterer for the meal. Seemed the easiest option to do one and possibly move the celebration.

Our venue are asking for final numbers 2 weeks before. We then only pay for the amount of guests we have. I suppose it would depend on if your contract specifies numbers of guests? I know ours doesn't and therefore we can change as needed.

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

We were told we would get a refund on the difference

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

We are paying reduced amount and only paying for guests in attendance when we get married in dec.... the venue cannot charge you for additional guests not there... if they pull contract crap remind them that they are also failing to hold up their end of the contract and are in breach

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

I haven’t had the exact conversation but I feel the venue will also be grateful that our wedding will go ahead and can still receive some revenue. We were due April 2020, then August 2020 and now April 2021.

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

We have dry hire and a separate caterer so don't have this issue but was just discussing this post with my partner and we thought if they are insisting you pay for say 20 extra people then have the meals cooked and boxed up and take away with you or donate to a soup kitchen ect same for your drinks package, if your having to pay for it then I'd expect to get it!

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

Our venue won’t specifically say yet but have said it’s difficult to reduce cost as they still have similar outgoings to staff the venue. They have said they would look at it closer to the time x

UKbride Member 6 Oct 2020

In our contract it has set numbers, but I asked re gov guideline numbers & they said their only charge for those if still in place.

UKbride Member 7 Oct 2020

We would only pay for the number allowed x

UKbride Member 7 Oct 2020

Our package for April 2020 was £5000 for 50 day guest then an extra 30 at night, they are offering £4000 for reduced numbers for March 2021. We are not happy with this , doesn’t seem a fair reflections. We are holding our tongues to we know more , only paid 1500 so far, may sack them off,

UKbride Member 8 Oct 2020

Having that chat next month when we’re going to meet the venue ... 🤞🏻

UKbride Member 8 Oct 2020

Our venue is priced per person minus the rooms used and the dove house that you get married in. If I had paid for a package then I would expect they add more or reduce the cost good Buissness sense would say to do this otherwise everyone will postpone and they have no clients for the next year xx

UKbride Member 10 Oct 2020

We are being told the same thing which is a joke, we are going to cancel. It’s completely I reasonable to not even discuss a reduction 😤
