We are getting married in July In Bristol, for an outside ceremony (hopefully if weather permits) worried I’m going to be so hot in a big dress mid summer!
Or if Corona Virus permits?
I wouldnt worry if you're in the UK. It usually rains in summer 😂
my sister wore a big dress in cyprus! she loved it!!!
I'm getting married in August. I've ordered little fans for each guest to have😊
This summer? Our friends wedding has been cancelled in August are you sure it is able to go ahead. If it is we went to our friends wedding in turkey and we each had a paper fan which worked great x
I’m supposed to be getting married end Aug, and we considering postponing due to social distancing.. I just can’t see us being able to have 150 in a room together?
We have had to postpone our wedding due this July the three is no way we are going to have 200 at our wedding and we cant see any of our suppliers to organise anything as there was still a lot to do and our venue may not even be open but if you are getting married the best of wishes to you all
Can’t believe the negativity on here. The bride may be getting married in July 21. She hasn’t asked for any opinions on coronavirus or postponement. If you aren’t going to answer her question, don’t bother posting!
lots of 'lighter' wedding dresses from places like Monsoon. Or have more than one dress? Big one for photos and a lighter one for the evening? https://uk.monsoon.co.uk/uk/wedding/bridal/dresses
I think it depends on what type of dress you have and if the outside venue has any cross breeze. I would look at maybe putting some little sun creams, paper fans and making sure you have enough juices and water on tables.
I'm getting married in june and think I'm goin to have to postpone it due to covid19
I got married on 30th June 2018, the whole summer was glorious and the day itself was beautiful. I didn’t get married outside but my chapel was boiling hot, photos outside was really hot but I wouldn’t have changed my dress for the world. I loved it
My friend got married in May 2018 in 30°C heat! We were all very warm but it was a beautiful day! I'm sure you'll have a lovely day, my only advice would be maybe have a hand held fan (for a quick wave between pictures!), Drink lots of water and suncream - we forgot this and had some funky tan lines the next day! 😂 Xx
I got married in Rome in mid July and it was over 35 degrees, almost 40! I still had my dress, underskirt and veil and had lace and pearl converse done to keep my feet comfy. I was worried but found with the adrenaline and excitement of the day I didn't even think about it til we sat down for our dinner that night! 😊 xx
I was thinking the same with my dress, it’s not big but quite heavy!! Tbh the British weather is so unpredictable you could be freezing in July & roasting in Jan 🤣 The ceremony bit isn’t usually too long (ours is 30 minutes) I’m sure you’ll be fine and if it’s roasting you can cool down in the air con inside afterwards 🥰 My hubby to be has ordered a second shirt he’s going to change into after the wedding meal before the evening guests arrive for the same reason xxx
Have you considered having a tea-length dress for the reception? Or just a floatier, thinner one maybe? I don't know if you would be too hot in a big dress but maybe, if you're worried, having a lighter back up for the reception could put your mind at ease? X
I got married August 2018 and it was an extremely warm day. I had a big dress and was worried about this too. Just make sure if you have a lot of skirts that you have an underskirt as it will help keep your dress away from your legs giving you a but more air flow. But even so you don't really notice. You're that caught up with everything that's going on been warm is the last thing on your mind xx
We got married June 28th last year and it was scorching hot and I had a big princess dress with about 400 layers 😂 I felt the heat when we did group photos etc and had to stop them halfway through and finish them after dinner and I did have a nice sunburn on my shoulders at the end of the day but I wouldn't change it for the world. Go with what you want and envisioned. It will be everything and more I promise
I got married 1st August 2017 in Cheshire and we had a lot of our reception etc outside (BBQ for food) I wore a traditional wedding dress and was absolutely fine! Xx
Maybe look at beach type dresses. I was meant to be married in Jamaica so got a light flowing dress from a local boutique. Hopefully I’ll get to wear it one day
I got married June 29th last year it was the hottest day 35 degrees, I still had the big dress and it wasn’t too bad, felt more my guests. We had to move the wedding into the patio area by the lake, people were only going inside for dancing. What an amazing day we had. You won’t be concentrating on the weather you will be too busy being swept up in the moment, just enjoy it as it the day goes so quickly x
We got married 5 years ago and our favours for the ladies were paper fans which we gave out as they arrived.
Everybody commented how lovely they were- got them off ebay or Amazon.
I dont want to put u off but it may not be over so just bare that in mind they are saying its gonna go on till next year
Wear a hoop skirt under your dress - I got married in 24°-26° temperatures in a heavy satin gown, the hoop skirt pushes the fabric out from your legs and gives a beautiful shape (obviously used the correct style one for your dress), if you get a little warm just pick your skirt up a few inches and let it fall back down to give you a nice breeze :)
This year? But corona?
Have you chosen your dress yet? I got a lovely dress but it wasnt to big was lovely and floaty so not too hot
May be worth going for a shorter style or floaty fabric. We’re getting married in early May (21 or 22) and I’m looking at those kinds of dresses
We getting married on 20th of July 2020 (🤞) and I hope will be hot ! I hate cold! I have a long dress as well. We have bbq outside and ceremony as well. Lakes district. We were a few years back in summer on wedding and was Amazing! 30° outside, lake & forest. Wonderful day xx
I've moved my wedding from this April to this August in the hope it can go ahead... If not we will just have to move it again. Positive thinking! So my dress may be a bit warm but hey ho, I will just be glad to get married!
I wore a fairly heavy dress on my wedding day in August - it ended up being one of the hottest days of the year (over 30C) and I was outside from 3pm until 6pm. I thought I would overheat but I was absolutely fine :)
We had a wonderful day and everyone loved the sunshine!
I got married in June with a massive dress. Yes I was boiling but to be honest I was having too much fun to notice most of the time!
My Aug 2020 wedding has just been postponed to July 2021 I really do hope your wedding goes ahead if its July 2020 so good luck 🍀 my dress is a sequined maxi dress it's quite heavy and when trying it on it was a hot day and I was sweating (sorry tmi) but I loved the dress so still got it I'm hoping it will be a nice day but not boiling but I'm going to put a basket of paper fans out as a treat for the guests in case it is too way and I'll probably get myself a battery operated fan for my handbag! I'm also putting together for myself an emergency kit with things like sewing kit, bottle of water, hairspray, kirby grips, make up, paracetamol, plasters, maybe a cool spray and snacks (I love food)!
Hope this helps xx
I had a ball gown style dress last August bank holiday. Really hot weather. I didn't really notice it, but I did keep a fan in my bag for if I needed it 👍
I got married at the end of September and had a big dress, it was 26-30 degrees for most of the day, I was only really hot once we sat down to dinner, I didn't notice it otherwise x
Have you already picked a dress? Many stores will be able to tailor their recommendations to your chosen venue/date if you explain your concerns.
Think about the number of petticoat layers etc, and ensure you have sun cream, a paper hand fan (you can get gorgeous bridal ones!) and lots of water on hand. I hope you have an amazing day, from a Bristolian who thinks you’ve made an awesome location choice 😜
I wore a full length a line dress with a very long detachable train. During may the sun was shining but there was a nip in the air so I was quite lucky until later at night when I got cold hahaha I would suggest if you're worried about the heat maybe a tea length dress would be better for you but always consider having a shawl or something for later on the night x
I feel the same way I'm getting married in August and I'm the palest person. I also don't tan just go bright red (almost instantly). I'm worried that I'm gonna look a mess and burn.
