Makeup artist or no make up artist?

Hi lovely people. I’m really unsure as to whether I should have a makeup artist for my wedding. Is it just another unnecessary expense? What’s your experience? I’m Ok at makeup but no expert... and need make up that will last a looooong time as I’m getting married in the morning. Any advice gratefully received!!!

Definitely have it done with a trial before the day. Lovely to be made up pretty for the day, all part of the experience I say x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I’m doing it myself as I didn’t like the way my make-up artist did it... Make sure you moisturise a while before the wedding!! I’m just trying out different styles on myself now and got a proper concealer & foundation for my face.

I had a mua and it was just such a nice experience, I felt my best and it was a real treat for such a special day.

I think it would have really stressed me out having to think about doing my own make up. X

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I did mine myself. I had a makeup trial and felt ridiculous, and I knew it was going to stress me out having someone else do it and felt better doing my own! I just used a good primer and setting spray and it lasted all day. Think it depends what kind of person you are! Have a trial and see how you get on, you don’t have to book the wedding day if you don’t like it ☺️

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Definitely a necessity, no questions

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

If you do do yourself invest in a good setting spray!

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I say get it done professionally. We spend so much money on other people for the day I think the least the bride should be treated to that as a little pamper. Plus make up artists will know which creams and foundations to use that don’t give you that awful white face spf Flashback in your photos.
I do Bridal hair but I am not doing my own, why because I never get my hair done and I want to be the one treated for the day. Plus you can kick back and relax 🙏🏼

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

If you want it to last, get it done professionally

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I flip flopped on this as I'm not a big make up wearer and wasnt sure if I would find someone to do my make up the way I wanted to. But I did, we tried a few styles out, we both compromised and i loved it! Was one last pamper for me, one less worry, the make up held on throughout the day and everyone complimented it. Definitely worth getting a mua if you can find the right one x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I thought the same, that I could do it myself to save the expense.. but my family told me to get a MU artist and to be honest, it really took the stress off 🙈👍 I'd say go with a MU artist x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

My one regrete not having to have a professional make up artist! You only do it once so do it xx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I was so undecided but once I had my trial I was so glad I did x can’t wait for our day x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I will definitely go for a makeup artist as I think they will definitely manage to flatter my best features and hide the worse ones. I know it is expensive but I think that is a necessary evil. At the end of the day it is your day, when you should feel like the most beautiful woman in the world!

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I'm having one for simple reason I wear glasses and I can no longer put eye make up on without a struggle.

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Sorry to butt in, how much are people paying for MUA???

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I’m doing my own. I’m going to invest into some really good makeup and then practice my self using tutorials online x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I can do my make up quite well but I have decided to go for a make up artist just so it lasts

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Yes it’s only time I did as never wear it normally and my hubby said wow xx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I had a make up artist for our wedding and she was fantastic. I very rarely wear make up and she made sure I got the look I wanted whilst not feeling like I was caked in foundation and powder. It definitely was worth it and was one less worry on the day!

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I say get it done professionally u will have enough to think about and if you can't have someone do ur makeup on ur wedding day wen can u? U want to feel a million dollars and u deserve to be pampered a little xxx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I did my own , wanted my husband to recognise me not look like someone else X

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I got mine done professionally and I’m so glad I did! My bridesmaids got there’s done too, it felt like such a treat and a lovely calming, nice experience to share with my ladies before the chaos of the day. Everyone commented on how gorgeous everyone’s makeup was, and it felt really special. My bridesmaids normally only wear minimum makeup so kept it natural, but they both chose to wear false lashes on the day and loved it, they looked stunning

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

My sister is doing mine, she amazing at make up, I'm getting married in October in the afternoon, everyone that I find, didnt do the way I wanted it, x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Get one! Or if you live near a department store, with a mac counter there wedding day make up is fantastic value xx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I had a make up artist, had to organise one last minute as my sister was supposed to do mine but she let me down. I don't regret the expense at all, it was nice to feel pampered for the morning and they did amazing work, especially since I had a bit of an acne break out due to stress. I'm also partially sighted so I know I could never have managed to achieve the standard they did, they listened to exactly what I wanted and I ended up with a really beautiful, natural look which was perfect for my day (barn wedding in October).

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I'm definitely in the do yourself camp. All the quotes I gathered were very expensive, for just one make up application plus additional charge for the trial. I decided to spend the money on some good make up that will last - doesn't have to designer. Then I watched YouTube tutorials on bridal make up and researched the looks I liked. It took a bit of practice and changing techniques but I got my look down to what I like. I do have a local make up artist but i didn't like her style. I don't wear makeup every day and prefer natural looks. Hers was very heavy and on trend but just not me. I say do it yourself, you will be very pleased!

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I would definitely have it done it makes such a difference to the pictures and to the way you feel. You don’t need to reapply and the photos look amazing it is an expense but definitely worth it. I paid for me my two adult bridesmaids and my flower girls(teeny bit of lip gloss and mascara) and for our hair and honestly was well worth the £300 xx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

My sister did mine coz I've got no idea, I used no7 as I've got sensative skin. I got married at 11am and it was still perfect when I went to bed at midnight
...and I cried my eyes out throughout my whole vows xxx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I had a make-up artist but personally didn't have the best experience. Mine even forgot to do my lashes and didn't stick to our agreed look from the make-up trial. If you really don't want one check out my Bridal beauty collection and order your key pieces- 3D mink lashes, eyeshadows, highlight etc. Easy to apply yourself www.mybridalbox.co.uk 💎

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Doing it myself cheaper. My friends doing my hair ☺️

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I’d say go for it. My make up lasted all day it never does if I apply it

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Instead o makeup artist if your alright at doing your make up just buy your self done good quality foundation etc

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

If u want a make up artist but not the expense and you have the time, go to one of the high end make up counters, they ask that you buy a product but the actually make up application is free, I did this for my 21st and honestly that was my favourite make up look so far

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I'm getting it done professionally as I want to feel pampered on my wedding day

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I wouldn't have dared do my own, but I did go for a trial to be sure of the style and colours that suited best for the day

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

It was worth it for me. We talked about the look I wanted and looked at pictures and tried out a few looks, she was asking me to say what I didn't like. On the day it took the pressure off me and I was able to relax. My make up artist was phenomenal and went above and beyond doing our hair and make, one thing was helping me get in my dress. She did not leave our house until a few minutes before I left for church. Find an excellent one, get a personal recommendation and try them our and if you don't like what they do, tell them and say what you do want xx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I had my sister in law (who loves makeup) to do it, we paid for a makeup trail buy a professional but my makeup was awful. I personally think it’s better to have either yourself or someone you know, do it as they know you better. I just treated myself to some expensive makeup I wouldn’t usually buy and in shades I liked and let her do her magic!

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I did my own, I love doing makeup though so did it to match my vintage style 😁 expensive makeup isn’t really necessary, I used high street stuff but used a decent primer & setting spray (play around to find what suits your skin) mine stayed put all day & well into the night xx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I had mine done and it did take alot of stress away from me and I felt great, but I'd say if you feel comfortable doing your own do it, I'm not so good at doing my make up so I didn't. It's your special day , be a princess 😁❤

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

My sister had one. It was a great experience but to me too overdone (I rarely use make up and when I do is minimal) so for mine I did it myself. If I was going all out with my wedding, I would probably either look at tutorials on YouTube or go to a place like debenhams before and get make up there

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Ooh I would suggest having one. My friend who is a mua also learnt photography and she told me that you need more make up on for the pictures to look better on your wedding day. Before my wedding I didn’t wear a lot of make up but the amount she put on for my wedding day was a lot but the pictures looked unreal. I could tell the difference between some guests and mine, I looked flawless and felt a million dollars. I am not so good at make up tho, sure you will be better than I. Xxx

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

Made me look.likr a clown... I didn't bother and bought decent make up and did my own x

UKbride Member 12 Feb 2020

I highly recommend getting someone to do it, I don't really wear make up in general and when I do its only mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and eyeshadow at a push, I chose a mua that does airbrush and I felt amazing! I also paid for my mum and bridesmaids to have theirs done as a thank you for all their help and being in my bridal party... It Was a lovely relaxing experience that we all shared on the morning of my wedding 😊

UKbride Member 13 Feb 2020

I don’t wear makeup so had someone come do it for me.
However I think it’s your day and you should be pampered. I think it’s nice to have something different to what you’re used too.
I’d deffo get an artist in xx

UKbride Member 13 Feb 2020

I did my own make up, saved money, plus I don't like too much so didn't want to sit for ages and end up not looking like me, I also did my own hair x

UKbride Member 13 Feb 2020

I was thinking about this yesterday! I think I’m going to do my own as I’m comfortable with it and I don’t want to be disappointed on the day.

UKbride Member 13 Feb 2020

You can get make setting spray so it’ll stay all day long (you could also use hair spray but when I trialled it, it felt sticky after a few hours). If you did book someone, you usually get a few trial sessions before the big day to make sure you’re happy with what you’re getting done. Good luck with it all. xx

UKbride Member 14 Feb 2020

I am allergic to most make up and have very sensitive skin. I am unsure what to do as everything I have tried in the past has caused a allergic reaction. I normally can only have lp stick and mascara

UKbride Member 15 Feb 2020

Erica Pacey Smith go to a makeup counter in boots or any department store & get them to do a makeup demonstration on you. Boots No7, are good on retail park in crewe xxxx

UKbride Member 15 Feb 2020

I had a MUA and she was actually really reasonable. Did me, bridesmaid and mum (would have been happy with just me and mum as a treat)

UKbride Member 16 Feb 2020

I did my own ,as I prefer lite make up ,and I didnt want a face full lol ,I felt like I looked nice xx

I wasn't going to bother but seeing how busy my daughter's wedding morning was, I've changed my mind! I want my make up to be more Coco Channel then Coco the Clown!
