I have a table plan but thinking of not having place cards, do you think it would be an issue?

My friend had a plan and no cards, not many people sat were they were meant to which made it harder for caterers to identify those who had dietary requirements.

Our venue is making us having place cards due to dietary requirements - so check if they require them.

I would have place cards! You dont want the addedd stress of helping people rearrange or shuffle about if people have seated themselves awkwardly and a couple or family are on split tables for example! As a wedding guest I like to know exactly where im sitting! :)

We didn’t have place cards, people always end up shuffling them around anyway to sit with who they want!

I know it’s added effort but we just made our own. Well my dad did.

I doubled the place cards as favours. Had each persons name made from mdf everyone loved them and saved people having to work out where on the table their sitting and each couple were sat together. 120 guest and only cost £12! X

I would say it would be very confusing without. I'm assuming that, if you have a table plan, you are expecting the guests to sit where you want them? I would personally say it needs to be all or nothing - either everyone sits where you want them to and you make that clear by having them or just have unallocated seating.

I have a table plan letting guests know what table to sit at but no place cards with names. I think people can organise themselves at a table... really not that difficult 🙈 saves me money and time. I was at a wedding with the same idea as mine... people had no issues with no place cards. As for dietry requirements... just let the wedding coordinator know what table they are sitting at

I make personalised wine glass charms great alternative to place cards and double as favours too x

I work in hospitality and have taken many pre orders for large bookings like weddings, it's amazing the amount of people who forget what they had pre ordered!

I had planned on having place cards anyway but we had to have them for dietry requirements, the venue needed to know who was having what 'food wise' and there were a few people who were gluten free/vegan so again, it helped the staff know who was having each meal, plus all the meals were written on the inside of the place names to remind everyone what they ordered ☺ X

We're not planning on having place cards, just a table plan & they can sit where they won't to on the table xx

I didn’t have placecards just who was on what table, worked perfectly fine!

UKbride Member 27 Jan 2020

We didn't do place cards just the table plan

Worth doing for the convenience of everyone involved. We put people orders on the other side of the card, and it saved confusion and arguments!

I said people could sit where they like but the hotel we are getting married advised on place cards so those with food allergies would get the correct meal

I had a table plan but no place cards. There weren’t any issues everyone knew which table they were on and they just decided who they sat next to x

I’m having place cards as I have a few guests with dietary requirements and it’s makes it easier if the venue knows where they are sitting.

I had a table plan, but no name cards, only activity books for the kids had names on. Worked out well for us

Everyone gets a number and has to sit at their assigned table. Make sure to pop a list on the wall of who has which number

We had a table plan but no name places. Tables of 10, so within that table everyone could sit where they wanted. There were no issues whatsoever with it. We had our wedding at home in a marquee and served one meal. There were only two people with dietary requirements so no issues at all.

That's exactly what we did. I had a table plan so we knew everyone had a seat, would get on with others on the table etc but they could choose where to sit at the table. I used to work in catering so did want chaos of not knowing where everyone was, I gave the caterers a list of names and which tables for allergies/vegetarian etc....

Hello! A place card not only directs guests to the table where each will sit during the reception, but also points each guest to his or her particular seat at the table. I understand you prefer not to have place cards if that is the case the venue may not know who the meal requests go to which may cause confusion.

I hope this helps x
