How to fight off last minute illness

Please help! I'm 2 days away from my wedding and I'm full of cold. I haven't slept more than 5 hours a night (usually less) for over a week and I need some off-the-wall remedies that can shake this thing! This is only the second day of the cold, the sleepless nights I think are due to nerves because our wedding is abroad but I'm as organised as I can be and don't think there's anything else I can do to make it run smoothly, other than relax and get rid of this snotty nose!

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

It sounds like you probably just need plenty of water & sleep! Try to relax (I know easier said than done) as it seems like you’re all organised - don’t worry too much about your cold, adrenaline on the day will make it disappear & you’ll forget all about it! X

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Keep wrapped up, drink plenty and sweat that mofo out!!!
Have a blanket on you and just keep covered even if you have to binge on tv for the day.
Take plenty of hot lemons and drink lots of orange juice (embrace the D).
Also eat plenty “starve a cold, feed a fever”
Your body needs to recharge to make your living room or bedroom really dark and get plenty of sleep even if it’s just power naps.
If you have vapour rub smear that shit on your chest and back.

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Honey, lemon, a sprinkle of cinnamon, a little grated ginger and then mix it with hot water in a mug, then add a splash of whisky or brandy. It works wonders. Also apple cider vinegar with *the Mother* with water works well too. For sleeping, try Night Nurse and a glass of milk before bed. It'll knock you out for 14hrs!

Corvonia night time worked wonders for me. It has an antihistamine in it that helps you sleep to. X

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Hot toddy, hot water, lemsip, whisky and a spoon of sugar. Tastes ugh but it does the job. Vicks on feet with a pair of socks and whatever you do don't walk on a tiled floor or you will leave greasy skid marks on the floor after you slide across it.

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Plenty of water, lots of garlic and ginger. Take a day to just rest with your feet up

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Day and night nurse. Combine with ibuprofen and you can get a throat spray to numb your throat too :)

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Get some extra strength vitamin c from asda on the medicine aisle. Some menthal crystals from the pharmacy. Drink plenty of water and just try and relax. Make sure you moisturize and use Vaseline to stop the skin on your nose looking red and dry on the big day xx

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Warm lemonade before bed is what my nan used to say. According to her you can sweat it out overnight.

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Vicks on your feet and between your toes when you go to bed

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

I had a can of cider once heated on the stove and drank it as hot as I could (this was advice given to me) you sweat like mad that night but it shifted the cold so maybe worth a try x

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Take some Nurofen cold and flu. 2 tablets at night then 2 tablets 3 times a day and after 4 doses you will feel brand new. I swear by them, honestly they are the only tablets that ever make me feel better.

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Vic vapour rub on the bottom of your feet with socks on overnight

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Get some day/nights nurse to help with the snot/sleep.
Plenty of fluids, warm ones help loosen mucous! I’d recommend green tea with a slice of fresh ginger, some honey and a sage leaf - anti inflammatory/antioxidants.
Echinacea, vitC and zinc.
Blow your nose with baby wipes - prevents drying out/Rudolph nose!
If you are very stuffy, consider a nasal spray from the chemist to.
Hope you get some rest and feel better for the big day!!

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Nurofen cold and flu.....human in 30mins

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Old remedy: slice a lemon, two tablespoons of honey and water in a café tiere- add sugar to taste and take two paracetamol before a mug of it before you go to bed. You will sweat it out and feel much better soon

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Vicks on your feet 👍

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Day and night nurse tablets, they’re brilliant and better than lemsip. 2 days might not have you cured but it should have reduced the symptoms a fair bit, and if your nose is red get the Sudocreme on in and around you mouth too if it’s red as well. In the mean time, manuka honey in hot water with lemon, plenty of water and rest 😊

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Plenty of fluids, green tea and honey, paracetamol and alternate every 2 hours with ibroprophen imbetween if you can take this. Calm night time tablets and dowsey he pillow in olbus oil and have a walm drink and hit steamy shower before bed sleep slightly elevated to my noise nasal swelling during night

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Honey lemon and ginger hot drink

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Manuka honey and night nurse are great. Vick on the feet at night is good too.

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Plenty of rum and hot milk. It’ll help you fall asleep and sleep deeply and is my go-to quick remedy. That as well as inhaling steam/olbas oil to clear all the gunk. Good luck x

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

My nan used to give us a drop of scotch in hot milk with suger and it worked I’m 73 now try it good luck

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

day and night nurse

UKbride Member 20 Jan 2020

Find the strongest manuka honey you can, paracetamol and hot lemonade 😁

UKbride Member 21 Jan 2020

Use night nurse and day nurse you will feel better in no time with that stuff

UKbride Member 21 Jan 2020

Orange juice woman! Orange juice!!

UKbride Member 21 Jan 2020

Face streamer with drops of eucalyptus oil or Friars balsam. I had a stinking cold turned into painful sinusitis due to thick mucous settling. Also Vicks 'FirstDefence' nasal spray has worked wonders kills the gems on back of nose and throat so at least cold doesn't keep adding to itself.

UKbride Member 21 Jan 2020

Get some night nurse in ya!!

UKbride Member 21 Jan 2020

Get bladdered. It won’t do a damn thing but you’ll sleep for hours lol 😂

UKbride Member 21 Jan 2020

Sudofed blocked nose spray is amazing...... use it all the time when I have a cold x

UKbride Member 22 Jan 2020

Plenty of greens - kale and spinach are full of vits A and C, fantastic for your immune system! Plenty of fluids also. That and just keep blowing your nose. Get that crap up and out! Remember to moisturise your nose if you are blowing lots! Bepanthen or sudocrem will do the trick. Just slap it on thick! Good luck xxx

UKbride Member 22 Jan 2020

Please drink manuka honey strength 10 with
red bush tea bags , always sorts out flu for me when nothing else will kick it ! .....
Plus also try “ tryocets “ as you can buy over the counter @ chemist & has an anaesthetic to cut throat pain & antibiotics to kill infection, no prescription needed ....... 2 orange tubes of tablets in a orange box ......

UKbride Member 22 Jan 2020

A few drops of olbus oil and water in a wax melt burner.
Steam yourself, head over bowl of hot water with a towel over hour head and breathe. This also works with the olbas oil and hot water.
Go to a pharmacy and get some vocal zones, often used by singers for a quick fixwith a cold to numb the soar throat so they can sing.
Honey and lemon drink xxxx

UKbride Member 22 Jan 2020

Sauna or steam defo help to get rid of cold x
