Weight loss

I'm getting married in September (YAY) realistically how much weight have people managed to lose in 9 months? I am getting married on the 1st September 2020 and wanted to know a realistic weight loss goal. Thank you x

Remember you’ve not got 9 months as you’ll need to think about alterations to your dress, it maybe a good idea to speak to a dress maker & see what they recommend. My dress was a corset & I lost a stone before my first fitting!

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I think I lost 4.5st in that timeframe when I really put my mind to it, but one piece of advice is don't slim just for a wedding, if you're gonna do it do it for you, not to fit in the perfect wedding dress. You will look stunning either way and your fiance fell in love with you how you are x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

My husband has last 5 stone and still counting since September. It's whatever you can manage to lose!

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

Everyone loses weight at the own pace!... I personally managed to loose 3st in 9 months just by doing slimming world.
Plus don't forget about alterations.. your last fitting may be a month or so before, at which point if you lose much more you may need your dress altering again...

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I lost 4 stone on slimming world with 9 months however your dress needs to be fitted at least 6 months prior!

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

It depends on so many different factors. The younger you are, the easier it is to lose weight. Also need to take your activity levels in to account. Aiming for 1.5 to 2lbs a week is realistic and sustainable. If you’re struggling, think of joining slimming world. It works and the group weigh ins and meetings can be very motivational xxx

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

Healthy recommendation is 2lb a week. So I’d say 5stone is possible x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I've lost 1.5 stone since October

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I'm getting married 7th May, I've lost a stone and a half since I bought my dress (ordered a size smaller on the recommendation of my dress maker) and plan to lose another stone before the big day. My first fitting is in feb, when I ordered the dress I had a good chat with the ladies about weight loss etc, and they said if I lose more they can take the dress in up to 2 sizes. Its really dependent on how much you want to lose, altogether I've lost nearly 4 stone but I've been doing it 15 months, because I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself. I'm happy with what I am now, if I can't lose anymore before my big day then so be it, but if I can then I will.

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

That's only 7.5 months now. I have lost 1.5stone in that time frame before. My wedding is 12th September and I'm hoping to lose similar again. Depends how overweight you are though. Will be easier to lose more quickly if you're more overweight than if you're only a bit overwt.

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

Completely depends on what you currently weigh ? Weight loss will
Be more if you weigh more x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

it depends how quick and dedicated you are, get to slimming world, i lost 4 stone 11lbs in 10 months not for my wedding though.. just wanted to get fitter and healthier.. my friend has been going since may and lost 2 1/2 stone and is size 10 from 14

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I lost 30kg in 9 moths I had a fair amount to loose though x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I lost three stone on slimming world and going to the gym daily in six months! It's sometimes hard but doable!

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I managed 3st in 9 months through slimming world but I was pretty on it so maybe 2/2.5st so as not to put too much pressure on yourself?

I didn't do it for the wedding though just for health.

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I've lost 3st in 9 months, 4 in a year, but this is post baby. I only got engaged at Xmas, so I have a little weight to shift before we get married. My main goal right now is to keep on track so I don't gain x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I've lost 2.5 since August x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I put weight on 🙈

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I was determined that I needed to lose weight to look amazing in my dress but instead found a dress that I feel amazing in! Had my first fitting the other day and it’s the first time in a long while I’ve liked how I looked! ❤️ the right dress will look beautiful on you no matter how many extra pounds you think you have, be kind to yourself and appreciate what you’ve got 💪🏻

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

2 stone x However, it's a personal choice and you shouldn't feel pressured.

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I lost nearly 2 stone with slimming world in less that 9 months was delighted. Good luck

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I lost 3.5 stone in that time but beware I had to buy a whole new wedding dress as I went from an 18 to a 12 & it couldn’t be taken in that much x

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

I've only lost a stone

UKbride Member 13 Jan 2020

With slimming world I lost a stone in a month lost 3 stone in total took 11 months. I put it all back on when I had my second born but have already lost half a stone and it’s only been 2 weeks.

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I went from a size 20/18 to a 10/12 in about 3/4 months I did it through lowering my calories NOT by cutting food groups out and going to the gym three to six days per week 🙂 xxxx

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost 3 stone before I got married, fell ill and put it all back on by the time my wedding day came around. Was gutted but at the end of the day what does your weight really matter, your other half already knows you on a deeper level than what the scales tells you.

I hope you have an amazing wedding day nonetheless 💕

When the shop ordered my dress, I measured 10/12 borderline on my hips but a size 6 on the top. The shop says they always go with the bigger size as it’s easier to take material away than add to it when altering.

When my dress arrived and I had my first fitting (6 months beforehand), they had to “shoe-horn” me in and I was mortified that I’d gone up to a size 14 in that time (I’m only 4’11 so that’s quite big for my height).

Knowing how unsustainable it is to lose weight too quickly, I did a metabolic test so I could lose the weight slowly through diet. Due to medical reasons, I can’t really exercise but weight loss is 85% diet anyway.

I lost just over 4 inches and a stone in weight but I was never hungry and was always eating real food (not any crappy slimming world meals etc).

I think the key thing was the metabolic test. I have a really slow metabolism so I was full on 11-1200 calories a day but my 6’0” friend needs 3400 calories per day just to stay alive!

I had a very fitted dress which actually ended up being slightly too big on the day which other people have mentioned in comments here.

I get married 12th September. In the last 2 weeks I’ve lost 8lbs I need to lose another 1st 7lbs before my first dress fitting in June. I’ve found cutting out carbs, drinking 3 litres of water per day and exercise 3x a week is really helping x

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

My mum has been doing slimming world and started jogging/walking daily. Shes currently lost nearly 2.5 stone in 3 month and has gone from a size 20 to 14. She has stuck to it religiously even losing over christmas as she started this due to blood pressure issues rather than my wedding but it's a bonus to her that she not only feels better health wise but more comfortable in her body too xxx

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Do Cambridge. I lost 3 stone in 3.5 months

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

From Feb to September last year I lost 2 and a half stone. Got married end of September. Everybody is different though and also depends on how much you want to lose

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I probably gained through stress eating, didn’t make a difference anyway because on the day the cups of my dress felt baggy.
I also married 1st of September

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Not sure on what you can expect to lose but don't use your wedding day as the desired time frame, use the day of your final dress fitting, then try to just maintain your weight from there. If your final fitting is a week or two before the big day, the last thing you want is to lose more weight after your final fitting then the dress not fit perfectly on your wedding day.

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Just eat balanced diet and excerzise. Dont worry so much about weight. You'll look beautiful either way

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost 20kg doing calorie controlled diet and exercise with my fitness Pal - I slowly cut out meat, dairy, and eggs and by the end was more or less vegan (not for everyone I know but I worked really well for me) married over two years now and it's all stayed off 😊

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I've lost 2 stone in 4 months and plan to lose another two and a half before my August wedding, I really reccomend slimming world

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost 2 1/2 stone from May - December (7 months) at SW before my wedding. I got to target just short of a year before the wedding (which was November the following year) so had to remain that weight for all that time as I had bought my dress! It was possible, but lost even more weight by then (3 stone in total) so had to put on a few pounds in the last month to fill out the dress!

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost 2 stone (and had to maintain for my dress) in 3 months on slimming world

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost 4.5 stone in 8 months, from April to December x

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I would say you have about 7 months to loose weight you need 6 weeks for dress fittings. Don’t aim too high of deprive yourself if you are stressed you may end up feeling disappointed

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I didn't want the pressure of having to lose weight to fit in my dress. Having joined a gym the year previously and having focused on weight lifting I'd actually put weight on, so I went for a dress size up and it was the perfect fit on the day, could eat and dance it and still be comfortable ☺️

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost 3 stone with WW before my wedding in August this year within 7 months. Back on it now after Christmas lol

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost about 5 stone but was large when o started, 8 and a half lost in 22 months on slimmin world

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I done slimming world and went to gym 2 times a week and lost 3 stone in 6 months and I stuck to it xx

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Healthy weight loss is about 1-2lbs a week. But I would focus of getting healthier, not just to lose weight for the big because you feel you should look a certain way. Beautiful brides come in all shapes and size :)

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Why loose weight? He's marrying you for a reason and that's because he loves you and all of you. I'm big and proud. My wife and I got married in September 2018 and she married me because she loved my extra love handles, my curves overall she loved me for the way I am. X

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Planning a wedding is so stressful, don't add extra stress and pressure by trying to lose weight. Your partner loves you as you are!

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I lost just over 3 stone from June 2018 to May 2019 and I’ve maintained that loss since then x

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

You do what feels comfortable for you no one else .. me and my husband had quite a bit of weight on us for our wedding pictures, and have now almost 4 years on both lost a lot of weight ( he has lost so much! ) and I'm quite sad looking at our pictures that we were quite chubby then and wish we would have tried to lose weight before hand , dont get me wrong we had a great day but I wish we looked how we do now back then x

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

You could easily lose 2 stone in this time it just depends how consistent you are xx

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

Well, in 9 months without drinking, because I was pregnant, and eating about every 2 hours a little bit cause I was working, I only managed to put a stone, so if you take alcohol out of the equation everything gets easier. Also, I've done the no dinner thing before and I managed to loose 10 kilos in a summer, but I was 15 and very active. But it all goes to your own body and metabolism... and it depends how much weight you want to loose. Also if you change your mind towards food then it's easier to keep the weight off... I have a love food, don't care relationship so I'm screwed

UKbride Member 14 Jan 2020

I didnt lose weight for my wedding, but previously I managed to lose 4 stone in 6 months... took alot of work and willpower xx

UKbride Member 15 Jan 2020

I went from 14 stone 9 to 12 stone 1 between May and December last year... literally by portion control... eating whatever I wanted but reducing the amounts. I do a lot of walking with work, so that helped I guess!

UKbride Member 15 Jan 2020

I didn't. Even if I'd wanted to my medication makes it extremely difficult to lose weight. I had enough other wedding stresses to think about without also making myself miserable trying to shed a few lbs 😅

UKbride Member 16 Jan 2020

I didn't have a chance to we set the date and 10 weeks later were married 😊😂
