Veil yay or nay

Traditionally bride's wear a veil. Are you keeping to that tradition by wearing one or not bothering? Either way what's your why in having or not having a veil?

Not wearing a veil mostly because it wouldn't suit the hair look that I want to go for

No veil for me. I think they look lovely but it’s not my style. We’re going for simple and rustic for our big day 😊

I wore a veil but I think both with or without looks great. Just depends on personal preference. I took mine off during the reception

My hair piece was much too beautiful to cover up with a veil!

I wore one as liked the tradition, but didn’t wear it over my face at all. I wore it underneath my updo (more of a low-do actually ). Lots of veil inspiration on Pinterest x

I didn’t because as i had nice detailing on the back of my dress i didnt want to cover up. Plus we got married last weekend and i was worried it would be a bit breezy

I'm wearing one at the back not front. Just having one because I didn't like the look without it. Made me feel more like a bride.

I'm having a veil (cathedral length) because my dress doesn't have a train I still haven't decided exactly how my hair is going to be just yet xx

Really didn't want one and then tried one on with my dress and my mum fell in love and insisted (she paid for my dress and I had only used half my budget by sale shopping so it wasn't going over)

I wore one because when I was deciding if I should, someone said, “When else in life will you ever get the chance to wear one?” So I thought sod it. I’m going full Princess.

mum wanted me to wear a veil, i didnt.. in the end we compromised and i wore it in the church only and then yanked it off.. i told mum i feel like a bonboniere in it and i aint no almond lol.. decide to go with a short veil as my train was so long on the dress i didnt want a piece of net covering.

I'm having a veil because it does make a wedding dress look more 'bridal'. I'm only going for a single tier, and no blusher. It will just be put on the back of my head. As it's a single tier, it's so light I wont even know I'm wearing it!!

I didn't wear one, I had a tiara instead. I don't even like having my hair down so the idea of a veil flapping around all day did not appeal!!

I'm not wearing one, I'm uneasy about a lot of bridal traditions coming from bad treatment of women so it's one of a few old fashioned things that won't be at my wedding

UKbride Administrator 14 Oct 2019

Fiancé is, wasn't going to but I said I would like to raise it so she is going to, probably the only part of the tradition we are doing but I'm old school

I’m not having a veil, I’m also wearing a black wedding dress 😅. I’ve been married before and did the whole white wedding, with horse and carriage etc....it went pair shaped when my husband cheated, so this time, I’m going to be me on my wedding day, with the man I should have met 20 years ago 😁

Depends on what else you want. I haven’t gone with a veil because I’m having a hair vine in my hair at the back, in the hairstyle I’ve chosen and brought a tiara to go at the front. For me a veil would just be too much. Go with what looks right for you, but consider your accessories to.

I wore a long veil, it was even longer than my dress. I wasn't sure at first but when i tried a few on with the dress it just made it come alive. It also resulted in some beautiful photos with my 10 year old daughter holding it for me on the day.

I have a veil, it’s waist length as I didn’t want to take the beauty away from the dress as the detailing is so intricate. I don’t think I’ll have the veil over my face walking down the aisle but think it looks so pretty with the dress x

I originally said no veil, but when I tried one on with my dress, it just complimented it so well, I fell in love with the look. It didn’t hide or ruin the detail on my dress either. Just made me feel more like a bride. I took it off after our first dance though.

No veil for me, I've shorter hair and there's nowhere to clip one on and a hairband doesn't sit right.

Sarah Foley
Sarah Foley 14 Oct 2019

I had a veil, I felt that it finished off my bridal vision. It was a frame for my face and dress, and complimented it. I originally wanted a knee length, maybe just to the floor length, I ended up with a 2mtr one, that was the full length of my dress, complimented it beautifully. It really is up to you, try one on in a shop if you're curious. There is no right or wrong decision. There are a great number of brides who opt not to have one, equally the same as those who opt to have one xx
