I don't think it hurts to get a venue booked early. If you secure your booking now you guarantee your date but also you guarantee no price hikes. I'd make a start :)

I'd say you could choose/book a venue if you have a specific date in mind. We're getting married July 2020 and booked our venues in February. Some vendors are already booked up but by no means all. I'd be wary of booking too much 3 years out as you risk losing deposits to vendors going out of business.

Start whenever you like but fashions and things will change by then!

We've just booked our church and venue for July 2021, I'm the same about it being too early, I want to be organised but scared incase vendors go out of business, may have a little break now the big bits are done xx

I think it’s to early to “plan” but perfect time to put mood boards together, think about a date you both want and go and view venues and check out there availability

Id say as early as you can afford, that way you can take your time. We booked our venue last year for our wedding in 2021 and it actually saved us money doing it that way as they locked the price in. We was also able to provisionally book our registrar, which means that now we know athe location and time. Which majes the rest of the planning easier haha, we already have a rough guest list which we can add to or change nearer the time lol. X

Start planning. Never too early as time will fly and all you need at the moment is a deposit.

We booked ours a few weeks ago for November 2021 however you can't get insurance until two years before the wedding so just be careful of that. Nothing is due on our venue now until 9 months before so plenty of time to save

We’re getting married July 2021 and booked our venue last year due to the price going up this year to save money. We have booked other things and again have found it saved money as it fixes prices! ️

I had 5 months between deciding to get married and the big day. Everyone's different 😀 I've got a friend who's getting married in 2022 and has been planning for over a year already, and a friend of a friend planned her whole wedding in 6 weeks.

Mine is also april 2022. I have chosen a venue but not booked it yet as they only allow bookings 2 years in advance. I've chosen my bridesmaids along with some ideas for their dresses and given everyone in my family their tasks (mums walking me down the aisle, brother is doing a speech and other brother is dancing with me), I have a colour scheme and theme chosen and I may have already bought my dress I got it a size too small as I'm losing weight atm and it can be taken in another 2 sizes or taken out by one if needs be. Also got some ideas on invitations and let folks know the date roughly.

I'm getting married in July 2021 and I've not organised a thing, just browsed suppliers. I can't really do much until next year as can't book room at registry office until 12 months before the date so don't want to book anything else in case I don't get the date I want. However if you are having it at a hotel or stately home and you can book earlier than that then I would just book that before it gets snapped up.

Claire Louise Inns
Claire Louise Inns 10 Apr 2019

Usually around 18 Months ... Some suppliers may not have their diaries open for that far ahead x

Amy Eager
Amy Eager 10 Apr 2019

If you have stuff you REALLY want. Make contact now and see if they can book it for you. If not find out the earliest you can book and make a note of that date. We booked our venue 25 months in advance and got the last available Thursday May - August! We had suppliers say no at 23 months out because they were already booked.

If you’re not so fussed on who you have etc, whenever you want.

Mine is the same date how funny I’m doing mine now and I’m also looking at dresses

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 10 Apr 2019

I started planning mine a good 18 months in advance, the dress is the first thing I got, and I think that was at least 18 months before the wedding (people commented that it was wired it was so early!) Also if you have your heart set on a venue, you'll need to book in advance

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 10 Apr 2019

You can start planning as soon as you want, do all your pre planning like checking out venues, colours you want, look at flowers and cakes, and invites, decide what sort of wedding you both want, check out cars and music, and most important your budget, then first off book your venue everything else will fall into place, happy planning

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 10 Apr 2019

Mine is 2021 and I've pretty much booked everything. My concern was how much money I need to save so now I've booked everything I can really get cracking on exactly how much I need to save xx

I got engaged to my fiancé in May 2018 started planning the next day by September 2018 we paid deposit on our venue and our date is June 2020. So I don't think theres an issue with looking straight away and getting as much of the stressful things sorted early on xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 10 Apr 2019

Took me about 18 months to plan mine. The sooner you start sorting out basics the better i think as your not so stressed and can start saving for if you find something you really want. Best of luck for your big day when it comes x

I'm getting married May 2020 and I've booked the venue and registrar. Plus I've started on the other things like the dress, photographer, flowers and cake. Its never too early and you can enjoy it and avoid stress

I got engaged last month and the next day we were looking and have already booked for June 2021. Already planned loads as we needed to know how much to save and now guaranteed that price.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 10 Apr 2019

You've planned when your wedding is so I'd say you've already started planning....

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 10 Apr 2019

Depends how particular you are about what you want. We'll have only had 9 months from engagement to wedding. Booking things with less than a year/6 months to go can get you some great deals, but more likely out of peak season. If a venue isn't booked for your date with only a few months to go then they may offer reduced rate. One place we looked at (for end of April) offered us half-price as they'd rather have it booked than not. But if you have your heart set on a particular place in Summer with a specific florist etc then I guess earlier is better!

Sarah Milward

We're getting married April 2020 and we've pretty much done everything bar small details. Got my dress last week, venue booked ASAP as they were already booking up. Just need to do the registrar on the 17th as you can't book more than a year in advance. My sister was so organised with hers it just mean in the months before the wedding we could all chill as it was all organised and done. I'd say if you're ready start with your venue and go from there. X

I booked my venue two years in advance but I’m a bit hesitant to do anything else too far in advance but I am getting lots of ideas ready though
