Hiya. Thinking of having a small private ceremony before our big day and then having a blessing with all our friends and family on our big day? Has anyone else done this? A registrar said this was becoming quite popular

I did I did the registry office on the Thursday with best man and matron of honour and an outdoor celebration service on the Saturday x

My mum is a vicar and she does this a lot.

The official vows at the church (they don't even come dressed up) then my mum will go where ever and do a blessing. That way there's no restrictions on where to have ceremony and everyone can relax!

We are doing this because it will save us like £700 to not have the legal ceremony at our venue! £45 for a private ceremony the week before then we'll have the more meaningful bit on the day with friends and family

We are. Saves us nearly £1,000. Just me and HTB doing the official bit in the morning then having an even blessing where HTB twin brother will "marry us" in front of everyone. That's when we will exchange rings too, rather than at registry office 😊

Yes we are doing this and then my friend who is a vicar is giving us a blessing the next day.

It's much cheaper than having the registrar come to a venue and a celebrant is able to include so many elements in a ceremony that a registrar can't and still cheaper than a registrar. And held where-ever you like. Enjoy x

I just don’t see the point apart from money saving and there are loads of ways to do this. The whole point of the big day is to share the moment you are legally bound with our loved ones? I don’t get it at all 🤯

This is my plan. It'll be wedding #2 for both of us and the ceremony part last time was the worst. I hated every second of it. So I'd rather get it over and done with just me, him, the kids and some witnesses.

We are doing this. Register office day before and then our family friend who is a curate will do blessing. Not only does it save us loads of money but means we can have an important person in our lives do service.

I’ve had a couple of friends do this last year as it was cheaper.

We did look into this but the cost for the registrar coming out to our venue to marry us was £500 and the quotes we got for a celebrant was £450! So wouldn’t have saved any money so didn’t see the point. Would rather have the real ceremony with all of our family and friends there Can understand it is your venue charges extra to have the ceremony there though xx

We did this. Legal part done for £50, wedding is July this year with all the family xx
