Sports hall venue ideas

Need some creative ideas! My venue is going to be in a sports hall with a very high (unreachable) ceiling, so we can't hang anything from it. We both want to try and cover up the 'sports hall' aspects of it and make it look more fancy, but every idea we've had is super expensive. We're having a budget wedding as we're both still university students so we can't spend a lot of money on decorative items... So far we've thought of having helium balloons to hide the ceiling. Any help with ideas would be very much appreciated! ????

We strung fairy lights from one side to the next to make a canopy. We paid £250 for somebody to do it for us but I'm sure you could get paid lights cheap?

Just deal with what people can see no one looks up all night , maybe some white sheeting or screens that the hall might have , just make your table pretty , it’s not the decorations that make your day special xx

I'm having paper lanterns with battery led lights in them. They are quite cheap, think its cost me £60 for 86 lanterns and 100 lights. I got a mix of pastel and plain white lanterns and white / coloured lights for a nice soft effect x

I know you can hire/buy a marquee to fit inside a venue but might be expensive depending on size

Can’t you attach a net from the walls, lower down than the ceiling? Fill it with balloons, you can buy packs of pretty ones cheaply, get a few friends involved in blowing them up & just fill the net.

What about white sheets attached high on the wall either side that will drape across the whole room with fairy lighs? If you can get them as high up the wall as possible it would look beautiful x

I had drapes inside my village hall (it's a big Hall!) Which cost £600, I know your Hall wpuld be bigger but I know for mine it transformed my venue, and I don't regret that money spent at all!

Helium balloons. 3 balloons on each table all at different heights. Balloon arch over top table if it's not too long or just behind the bride and groom chairs. Bunting, lights or lanterns along the walls about 7 ft high up. Gives a focal cut off.

Can you attach some strong string as high as you can from one side of the room to the other and dangle pretty decorations like paper lanterns from them? You can buy lightweight ceiling decorations super cheap from amazon x

Have you thought about festoon lighting? Might make it a bit of a cosier feel.

Could you do something like this? Hang draping curtains and net lighting? Just hang it lower than the ceiling is so you don't need as much material and also it will make it seem smaller and cosier. Xxx

Not the greatest picture but this is where I'm having my UK wedding party. It's a beautiful room but the drapes make it even better. They are £200 to hire! But would be so easy to make. Just a voil curtain from primark and some wire, just make sure they are way above head height. Think I'll do my own then maybe sell on X

I would cover the ceiling with drapes , keeping it simple. You can use disco lights for the party cheap to hire. Fairy lights make things pretty.

We bought £5 (for a pack of 2!) net curtains from ikea and got paper pom-poms from amazon to screen off the bar during the ceremony. Once the pom-poms were made I strung them on cotton and hung the strings in front of the curtain

Wireless uplighting, potentially combined with white wall hangings. The lights alone can completely transform a room!
