Losing weight

I've wanted to lose weight for a long time but I've never found the motivation. Me and my partner have been engaged for a year now and after having our son we have started to plan. I keep putting off setting a date as I want to lose weight and I'm not sure I'm going to have the motivation to lose the weight; hoever I know I will not feel comfortable on the day until I lose some weight. Anyway- has anyone done anything specific and effective to help them lose weight and maintain for their big day? Obviously healthy meal plans are a start. Thank you :) x

All I will say is no matter what you’ll look and feel beautiful on the day . Just remember that your other half picked you, just as you are. You’ve carried his child and I’m sure he’d marry you tomorrow. I’m not one for dieting and I love my food too much , I did however do the couch to 5k app before my wedding in a bid to feel better about myself and it worked for me and it was free. X

Try slimming world but also set a date, doesn't have to be soon but it gives you the motivation and deadline to lose the weight instead of just putting it off xx

Don't crash diet, it won't work long term. Start by doing small changes. Walk short distances, have one biscuit/piece of chocolate instead of two (or 3 ) be a bit conscious of what you eat. You can easily get rid of 500 calories a day by doing that. Once you loose some weight the motivation will come.

I did slimming world to lose weight for my sister's wedding. It is a great plan to follow, I've not been at my target weight for nearly 2 years and I get married this year.

I took a before photo of me in my bridesmaid dress which kept me motivated. When I got half way to my target, I took another photo in the same dress and compared then took one when I reached target. It was fantastic to see my progress and now I can maintain my weight and enjoy myself

I am just about to start a new fitness plan that the company I work with has just introduced at the end of last year.
It’s called FIT6, and along with a meal plan, they provide supplements (not meal replacements). The first is called Inner Balance, and it helps to get rid of all the toxins in your body, and set you up for stage 2, Slim Extreme. (I’ve tried this, and lost 7lb in 2 weeks with no change in diet or exercise).
I’m trialing it with 4 others, and have 3 spaces left for it to be trialled at the price I pay, rather than RRP.

It won’t be for everyone I’m sure, but I’m excited to get started and have the motivation of doing it with others too, as I’m in the exact same situation as yourself. I’ve signed up to something called “race at your pace” too, in the hopes that it will get me moving more.

Also though, I’d say not to put too much pressure on yourself, as you’ll just end up stressed and frustrated. Your partner loves you as you are now and I’m sure you’ll feel beautiful on the day, regardless of whether you manage to lose weight or not. ️ xxx

As many have said, my fitness pal app, this helps you to see what you are actually putting into your body. Slimming world if you need help with the meal planning, it’s also knowing that you have to get on the scales each week. Set the date, no date means no change or goal, if you know what you are heading for, you will have focus. Finally is exercise, you need this element to be part of every day life to help you for your future - lift or stairs, take the stairs, park the car at the far end of the car park and walk, go for a walk if evening after dinner

Hope it all works out 😊

I joined WW but to be honest I actually needed a date set to get myself in gear. When I had 18 months to go, my best friend messaged me saying 'you're getting married next year' and that finally made me take it seriously! Best of luck to you and your wedding weight goals x

Track what you eat and look at community projects. I joined a women’s exercise scheme and made friends whilst losing weight which meant I didn’t have to rely on someone else to go to the gym with etc! And it was cheaper than joining the gym! X

A simple calorie deficit.
Eat less calories than you burn and the bits you don’t like will melt away. You should also switch some carbs out for protein. Like instead of having two or three scoops of potato, change one of those scoops for chicken or whatever protein you’re having. Also where possible switch to low calorie (NOT low fat) foods. Like low calorie chocolate, or switch to dark chocolate. Something you can have a couple of bits of and then walk away. It’s all about managing indulgent foods instead of giving them up. I lost 2.5 stone nearly 3 in a year by cutting down the calories I eat in a day. I also try to get at least 1 hour of exercise a day, if you don’t want to or can’t manage it then it just means you’ll have to have a higher deficit. The daily recommended amount for non active women is around 1,800 calories a day. Start off at 1,800 until you get a hang of calories and counting then drop it to 1,700, and keep dropping by 50 cal t until you can see progress.
Also try not to step on the scales. Judge it by how you feel when you look at yourself in the mirror. Are you comfortable? Do you feel like you look the way you want to? Can you say you feel more confident?
Don’t bother with extreme diets, they’re not sustainable and about 95% of people end up going back to their old habits and regaining all the weight they lost because they can’t stomach any more boring meals.

I'm getting married in July and have 5 stone to lose I've found my Fitbit and my fitness Pal have helped, just take it day by day and don't stress out about where you "should" be on your wedding day I've been yo-yo dieting for years and my motivation always goes after a couple of weeks as I'm not where I "should" have been according to the scales just go day by day I find flavoured chicken and rice is good for lunches, I'm currently on a 1000 calorie deficit a day just stick to that when your logging your food it's easier than you think, hope this helps x

I recommend slimming world, I started jan 15 and lost just over 3 stone up to july 15 to be a bridesmaid at my sisters wedding. I like my food too much so put it back on 🙈 but I'm joining again on Monday for my own wedding in March 2020 😁

We set our date for may 2020, and since we've booked it I've stuck to just eating healthily and going swimming 2-3 times a week. Since September I've lost 2 Stone. I started this early so it gave me plenty of time to get to the weight I wanted to be, and allowed for things like Christmas and holidays.
Doing some form of exercise along with eating better has been the key for me as it's just dropped off, and it's allowed me to eat things that I want to, rather than having to stick to the same diet.
Everyone is different and finds different ways that benefit them, just do what makes you feel comfortable and most important, what makes you happy 😊

I did herbalife but had done weight watchers and slimming world before that. What worked for me was having a date. It meant I had to have made it very then. I didn't set a weight or a size. I just did herbalife and worked out at a free local fitness class. Had a cheat night once a week.

You could try a dieting app. Set a realistic calorie level and how much you want to lose. Input your activity level and it tells you how much you can lose in the given time frame. Up your activity and you can lose more. It helped me to see exactly what i was taking in and what portion sizes should look like. I lost 2 stone in around 7 months. Didnt feel like a diet at all on 1500 calories a day and the app only cost around £4 a month

Weight watchers was amazing for me but like other people have said - you have to take it slow. Ive lost almost 6 stone now since starting January 2018. There are some great recipes on the app and it also provides a great source of support if that’s what you’re looking for - I don’t attend meetings myself I just use the app on my phone but obviously there is also that option. If meetings aren’t your thing or you can’t make them fit around your other commitments then the app is still fab and so helpful and I have found that it’s made such a difference to how I feel about what I eat and my lifestyle. I am not a big fan of exercise and am rubbish at most sports but have found that simply getting out and about on foot and moving a bit more every day and lots more on weekends made a huge when difference when coupled with joining Weight watchers. They also have a flexi plan which I hear is really good 😊 - good luck with your goal! X

Someone I know struggled with their weight for years. She found cutting out all fizzy drinks, sweets and chocolates, all saturated fats. A little each day is fine but don't exceed the recommended amount! And porridge in the mornings, sweetened with fruit helps distribute the weight to where it is needed for energy ect. She's now the slimmest she has ever been in her life. Xx

Make a list of what would happen if you made changes and lost weight, what would happen if you didn’t. Forget about the barriers in your way. Have a ‘look over the fence’ and imagine what each of those scenarios would be like. How do they make you feel? Think about the health implications of changing your lifestyle and the implications of making no changes. Think about past attempts to change and why they failed. What would you do differently? Make a decision. Set yourself a long term goal and lots of short term goals. Make them achievable and realistic. Make sure you have a support team in place. And go for it. Make sure on the days you lack motivation, you keep your discipline. Discipline is what you need when motivation is weaning. The discipline to keep your goal in your mind and do it, even when you don’t feel like it. Good luck and enjoy! And whatever you decide to do, book your wedding and enjoy ever moment. Your fiancé obviously loves you for you. ️️

I felt exactly the same but we set our date. I started a gym more to help my motivation and happy hormones and went low carb I lost around 1/2 stone and then before the wedding around another 1/2 fell off. I joined slimming World and it honestly was such a good decision. I loose weight slowly as I can't exercise due to being disabled but they are really supportive and the group keeps me motivated and I don't feel like I'm on a 'diet' at all. You can take things at your own pace and get lots of support and tasty meals. They also help you feel confident and beautiful no matter your size or body shape, they help you learn to love yourself. Your fiancé fell in love with you just as you are x

Id say do it gradually, dont stop eatting the foods u love just eat smaller portion, exercise 10 minutes a day doing marches brisk walks, keep upping the time each time, and change your fitness so beginner weights to brisk walks.. few jumping jacks, the fitter u get the more intense yoyr workouts will have to become, dont stick to same workout or meal plan cuz u get bored.. and if u want a piece of chocolate eat it but don't go 6 bars in , also if u do exercise eat tuna salads, heathly potatoes and pastas fish and chicken

You need to find what works for you. I tried (the old) weight watchers, I tried juice , I tried slimfast, I tried slimming world many times but would lose a stone then fall off plan and put it all back on and more. I've decided I just need to work it out for myself. I've cancelled my bus pass which will not only save me money but will force me to walk to and from work, I need to start taking my own healthy food so I don't buy bad food at work and it needs to keep me going so I am not tempted to eat out on my way home. Set a date, it will give you something to aim for and give yourself a realistic goal. Unless you have a really strong will don't cut out your treats just limit them e.g. one takeaway a week, only allowed chocolate at the weekend, alcohol only on a Friday etc. We don't have chocolate/crisps/sweets in the house, its easier to just not buy them.
