Hi, I am getting married in August 2019. We have booked a wedding reception in West Sussex and wanted to hold a wedding ceremony elsewhere on the same day (They have no licence for a civil ceremony), does anyone know of anywhere nearby that would hold just a civil ceremony only. We can't get married in a church as we are both different faiths and we are having our reception on a Sunday so I think most registry offices are closed. We may just have to legally get married another day and have a humanist ceremony on the day but ideally want to do it all on the dame day! Thanks for your help!
There is a full list of licensed venues in west Sussex on the west Sussex council website. You can search by postcode and find the nearest to your reception venue x
Are you sure you can't get married in a church? My fiancé and I are different faiths and getting married in a church outside of our parish.
Humanist ceremonies are legal, or is that just Scotland? What about a hand fasting? Xxx
You should still be able to marry in church. I'm getting married in a Catholic church but I'm not Catholic.
If they don't have a licence you could have a Wedding Celebrant rather than a Registrar. Have you called round other venues and asked about hiring the venue just for the ceremony ? It might work out mor expensive this way but not impossible if you want a lot of people at the wedding ceremony rather than just a couple of witnesses. I don't know what part of West Sussex you're from but stansted House have done this before. Good luck x
We're getting married on a Sunday. Give the Registry office a ring to find out if they can perform your ceremony. Good luck
