Im also July 2020 and considering wedding insurance but my MIL said if we have been paying for everything by card then our bank would refund us on any money we lose out on if companies or venue closed etc. So im gonna phone up by bank this week and check xx

We didn’t have any, but we were very lucky, no problems at all xx

Leaving this here so I can find out too :)

We bought some, it was £50 from Debenhams and we got a £10 gift card, so realistically it was only £40 and it covers everything, suppliers, caterers, outfits, venue etc.... personally I think it’s worth it. Imagine buying the dream dress and then the designer going into liquidation, or something happens to the venue! Chances are everything will be absolutely fine, but for the sake of 40 quid is it worth the risk?

definitely have it. chances are you won't need to use it but I wouldn't have risked it. we paid 70 quid in Debenhams.

I got mine just after few hotels round where i live suddenly went into adminstration and was all over the news as depending how short of notice i couldnt afford to repay for venue

We didn’t get any but paid for the majority of things split out over the year on credit card which acted as a safety net, also ensured all of our suppliers were reputable checking/ looking at reviews etc. We were lucky and nothing at all went wrong on the day

Get some it's always worth it if anything was to go wrong xx

I was unsure about whether to buy it or not but having over a year to wait, I thought anything could happen and I would rather pay things off instead of waiting till nearer the time so no brainer really. I would rather ‘waste’ £60 for peace of mind then thousands due to closing down etc. X

I planned my wedding 2 years in advance and had nearly Everything booked With in the year, I didn’t take it out. Luckily it wasn’t needed

Insurance can cover sudden illness, resulting in the wedding being cancelled, I don't think the card cover mentioned above would cover that (Happy to be corrected if I am wrong :))
Also those claiming to only use reputable suppliers, they could still go bust etc also you hear stories of people booking someone a relative or friend had previously used with no problems but then for many different reasons doesn't go well for them.
Wedding insurance is a must Xx

In May 2020 and we have bought it through Debenhams. Figured it’s like travel insurance; hope you never have to use t but always better to get it.

If you decide you don’t want it here’s an article I just found on how to use protection 75 with weddings https://www.oceanfinance.co.uk/blog/how-section-75-could-help-you-plan-your-wedding-0-4982-0.htm

For the sake of £50-£100. Its a no brainier. Would you go on holiday without travel insurance because you picked a company with good reviews? Only if you’re a millionaire/idiot.
It covers more than a supplier going bust. It’s there if there’s a sudden illness to you or your partner, a fire or similar at the venue etc.

We did just for feeling safe about anything going wrong.
It cost £50 for £15,000 worth of cover with Debenhams (this was the lowest cover option at the time I purchased).
Even though I didn't need to claim at any point, it was well worth the £50 for having the peace of mind knowing I was protected in any unforseen circumstances caused by my suppliers.
Plus it covers you and your guests for certain injuries caused by your wedding venue or suppliers etc 😊

Ours is with debenhams and was only £47, covers everything. Our wedding is in 2019 and I brought it in 2017 as was 2 years away. Glad I did, just covers just in case, gives you piece of mind x

We got outs from John Lewis. A no brainer as it covered so much more than what any credit card would (such as gifts) and also it can become far more difficult to claim when you are just making a bank transfer we planned our wedding in 6 months and it was worth it for the peace of mind. I wouldnt be booking so far ahead without it xx

We have. It was only £40.

We’ve done it, was only £35 with cover my wedding. My sister advised me too as she needed to claim back on hers through rogue caterers. Rather spend ££s than £££s as a precaution.

Got mine from John Lewis....and when we had to change plans they were very accommodating and didn't charge any extra

Rachael Bishton

We paid about £35 too, hopefully not needed but felt it was better to be safe than sorry as dealing with lots of different people and not all take credit card x

For peace of mind I'm glad we got it. We went with Debenhams as they were the most reasonable, plus I got a £15 gift card and went through Quidco so got cashback too

I didn’t

I would absolutely recommend wedding insurance. It’s such a small amount of your budget and it means you’re covered if anything goes wrong!

Victoria Elliott

We did. It was £50 but you can’t really consider that a lot when you pay thousands for a wedding, with no guarantee that something won’t go wrong or someone might be unwell. Especially if you’re waiting a few years to get married

Yes! You never know what could happen

Take wedding insurance. Look at Debenhams they're quite good. It covers you for everything including the venue going bust.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 13 Aug 2018

We bought ours from Debenhams and got a free £25 voucher x our venue needed it on file as soon as we booked. It's a minimal fee to pay should anything go wrong... nothing went wrong on our day but it was peace of mind x well worth it! Who knows what could happen xx

Sarah Hall
Sarah Hall 13 Aug 2018

We bought the insurance it covers you for all the above but also if one of your guests breaks something at the venue your covered too. We had Debenhams insurance with the £10 back it's definitely worth it .

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 13 Aug 2018

No debate, it’s only about £60/£70, better that than losing thousands.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 13 Aug 2018

100% get it. We got a gift voucher with ours and bought an instant camera with it so that was even better!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 13 Aug 2018

My friend advised me to get it as she had to claim on hers. We went with Debenhams for £100 and got a gift card too.

UKbride Administrator 14 Aug 2018

Some venues insist on it, it’s not massively expensive and better safe than sorry

I think if uv spent around or over 10,000 it would b worth doing, because many things can go wrong over 2yrs from venues burning down to someone breaking a bone, and if u have spent an outrageous amount it would definitely b worth insuring xxx
