My h2b and I have our hearts set on a woodland style wedding. We both love the outdoors and want something very natural. Problem is we haven't been able to find a venue even remotely within our price range. Most are coming up between £6000-£12000 and our budget is only £3000. We don't want a big wedding, just after something simple and intimate in a natural setting but becoming so disheartened by the massive price tags attached to venues. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any outdoor/woodland venues that are more affordable? Preferably in or near Buckinghamshire or the South East. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Tia.

My partner and I are borrowing a field from a local farmer and putting up a marquee, it's costing us more than £3000 but I'm sure you could do it for cheaper! Xx

I wasn’t there, but I know a couple who got married in Wendover Woods (near Aylesbury) and then used the picnic area there to have a big BBQ with a food van. Definitely memorable!

Have you looked at tipi weddings. If you look at and search your area they might come up with some venues you've not thought about x

You can’t legally get married outside in England, you have to be under a physical structure of some kind but you can in Scotland & I think Wales. Think if you want the legal bit done outside or if the ceremony is just symbolic

Why don't you do a little registry office ceremony on another day to get the legal bits all done, And then do the outdoor day to do your vows and reception?

Rather than looking at venues , look into people that own farms/land and get in touch to see if they would be willing to hire it put for a small fee. You can get yurts and tipis for a reasonable cost!! Good luck xxx

I don't know anything about woodland venues, but have you thought about doing the legal part of the ceremony somewhere else before/after the wedding? It saves a lot of money (about £350 for us) and removes their restrictions on where you can get married, so that should hopefully bring costs down where you can contact different venues. Humanist celebrants cost around £500 or, like us, you could ask a friend to officiate for you

Have you tried looking at weekday prices? We got quoted £6000 for a Saturday but to get married in a Wednesday it dropped to £3000. X

Have you tried the Tree Cathedral in Milton Keynes? Think it us managed by the Parks Trust and can be hired for private events and ceremonies

I would suggest getting the legal bit done at a registry office another day then doing it where you want to. We always wanted to get married outside but all barn venues and venues with outside structures weren’t what we wanted. We found a lady who hires out her farm and we had the most perfect day, instead of hiring someone to ‘marry’ us on the day we had our best man and maid of honour do it and it made it so special. We didn’t have a big thing at the registry either, we went (a year ago today in fact!) with just our maid of honour and best man and did it on our own, no vows no rings just signing the legal stuff, we made it very clear to family that this wasn’t a big deal and that no one else was to be there. It meant we could hire the small room for I think under £100, really kept the price down and no one gets upset they’re not invited. Xx

We’re doing the legal bit the day before and having our ceremony at Chalton Village Hall (Bedfordshire), it’s actually a Tudor barn, and it has fields and a beautiful original outdoor chapel surrounded by trees and greenery, the venue is only £500, not quite woodland, but very pretty outdoor space and budget friendly x

We got married at Greenacres Colney. They were amazing! We used their woodland shelter, however they have a large venue which overlooks the trees and their grounds which is also beautiful. They have a couple of sites.. Prices are very reasonable also. Couldn’t recommend them more! Best of luck xx

I would advise getting the legal part done somewhere like a registry office for cheap and then ask a friend to officiate a ceremony in a woodland of your choice!
