I'm looking for opinions on not offering a traditional sit down meal at a wedding reception. We're wanting to provide a buffet only as we want a more relaxed and informal reception. Reception starts at 16:30. Thank you in advance.

We just had a hot & cold buffet & a dj. We invited all guests from the start of the reception too. Still had a seating plan as were worried that there would be odd seats left where no-one would know people. Everyone had a fab time!
We are having all our evening guest arrive just after our ceremony for paella and tapas. We have a seating plan so everyone gets a seat

Very simple and less stressful as I'm doing it myself.
We're having like 30 pizzas. Pasta salad, potato salad and other simple bits.
We are having afternoon tea around a similar time to your reception time as photos will take until then. getting married at 2pm at church then about a 10/15 min journey to the reception.
We are having our reception start at 6.30 and are having a bbq with no seating plan! X
Go for it :) it's your wedding!
Our wedding is at 4pm so we're having a hot and cold buffet not a sit down meal I was adamant that I didn't want that as it was too formal for me and my future hubby
Buffet, hog roast,BBQ,pizza ovens, burger van/food van (you can get American school buses etc),afternoon tea, tapas are just a few suggestions off the top of my head.
Went to a wedding that did a hog roast buffet and it was lovely. Been to several other wedding that have the tradiational buffet and all been lovely too x
Buffet is perfectly acceptable
My friend is doing a hog roast buffet but I believe they've still done a seating plan and everything.
We're going to have afternoon tea
We are having a hog roast
We had this exact set up at our wedding. Sausages, burgers, chicken etc was brought out at 4.30 when our guests arrived at the reception. It was so relaxed - everyone was free to get up and talk amongst themselves. A bit more informal so more "us". :)
My brother had a buffet and they did all the food themselves (with help from MOB family I think). It was so lovely and there was plenty of food xx
Barbeque
We are having a hot buffet rather than a formal dinner... will still have a seating plan etc and then later a standard buffet and hog roast
We Are getting married at 5.30 and having a buffet at 9pm x
im only having a buffetat my own wedding in august. no sit down meal. xx
Yeah lots of people do that these days, it depends on what you want. Some people have afternoon tea, some people want the formal sit down meal. It's your day so what you want goes!
I've never been to a wedding with a sit down meal tbh, mine will be the first in my circle, its not unusual at all
