I'm having a panic! I'm getting married on a super hot beach in January and I got over excited and bought the first dress I tried on and now I'm stuck with it and it's not going to be suitable. It's a stunning dress but it's not ideal for the heat. I initially tried dresses on in winter and didn't realise how uncomfortable I would be in the heat until we've had a few hot days. I've spoken to the woman the the bridal shop and she is super lovely but everything I've paid, which is full price, about £1k is non-refundable, if I'd have only paid the deposit that's all I'd lose but because I wanted to be organized I've paid for everything upfront! I've spoken to her about my concerns but she has said no refunds and had me come back in to try the dress on. She has tried to persuade me it's THE dress but I really don't know what to do, I know it's not going to work but feel stuck!

If you really think it’s not going to work- maybe see if you can sell the dress on and buy yourself another one if you have enough time!

If it’s a big dress with underskirts etc can you get someone to cut them out to make the dress lighter?

Are there layers underneath you could take off? Or may be get a shorter dress for after the ceremony as that will be comfortable :)

Could you contact the dress designer/company to see if they can help in any way? The shop could help if they really wanted to, assuming the dress hasn't been altered and still has the labels on, I'm sure the shop could help if they wanted to!

Can you not have the dress altered to a tea style short dress? And remove unnecessary layers

Hi, my sister in law got married in Mexico a few years ago. Mid May so was 37degrees when she got married. She had a traditional wedding dress as she fell in love with it. I can honestly say she didn’t have any issues at all, she was hot but I think it wouldn’t matter what u had on u would be hot anyway, if u really love the dress and it was the one u wanted don’t let the weather deter u from it. I get married next July in Dominican and have gone and done the same thing. All I would say is embrace it, enjoy it, u will look back on ur pics and remember it for being a special day. U have chosen the dress for a reason and they say when u know u know. Hopefully u will feel much better about this very soon. I hope all goes well, good luck and congratulations xxx

Sounds like you loved the dress initially, you chose it bcos you loved it,,there's a possibility there will be a sea breeze & afterwards surely the reception room/s will be air conditioned..Best wishes

To be honest your going to be hot whatever you wear. If you really love the dress go for it. If you have found another one then I would pick up the dress and sell it. You won't get the whole price for it but you will get some which can go towards a new dress. Xx

If it’s a dress with lots of layers underneath a good seamstress can remove the under layers and it would be a lot more comfortable ?

Obviously if it’s a big ball gown then not ideal at all but most dresses can be altered to work xx

You obviously love the dress, why not wear the dress for the ceremony and photos and then change into something cooler for the reception? So you get to wear the dress you fell in love with xxx

Try having a couple of hoops fitted ( depending on style ) it will help with air flow :) x

I would try sell the dress and buy a lighter one that's more suitable. The last thing you want is you fainting during the ceremony.

I am having a similar worry, I have chosen a long sleeve heavy dress and get married in the middle of August. I am going to get a cheap spare dress for just in case, you can get one from eBay that still looks like or is a wedding dress.

We got married in Vegas and I had a traditional dress, also wore it for photos in Barbados on the beach and really didn't bother me too much. Wear the dress of your dreams - you'll be in an airconditioned room until you need to leave for the beach. Take a spare dress for after the ceremony and pictures in case you are too uncomfortable that you can switch into.
