I'm quite short at 5ft 2 and all the dresses I've seen online are on 5ft 9 models with heels on! Does anyone have any recommendations for shops in West Yorkshire that cater for the more petite lady....I'm dreading going shopping and finding all the dresses are a ft too long lol.

Hi if there is a WED2B store near you then go there, I am 5ft1 and had to have a ballerina length as the proportions are too long for people our size :)

I bought my Benjamin Roberts dress off the peg, it was a petite one so fit me perfectly I am 5"2 as well. I think some designers have petite version of dresses also most dresses can be shortened

I recommend Maggie Sottero dresses as they come in the three lengths. I have one of their dresses and I'm 4ft11. Have a look on their website for stockists near you.

I'm the same height as you and I only wore a small heel you stand on a box In the shop anyway to get a better idea of length and a good seamstress with alter it I had to have all the lace chopped off and sewn back on

All dresses can be altered so they are a perfect fit for you. Not many people are able to buy a dress that is the perfect length for them. I'm 5ft4 and wore tiny heels so had my dress shortened. Then she used some of the fabric she chopped off to add sleeves to the dress. Even my 5ft9 sister had to have her dress shortened a tad.

Wedding dresses are tailored, so you try on for style, not length. You may find tea or ballerina better lengths to try. But I can highly recommend Hoops-A-Daisy, they have shops in Wakefield and Huddersfield

Most bridal gown samples are made for the taller bride but if you buy one made to measure alot of designers make the dresses in 3 different lengths to accomodate varying heights. Ask at the bridal shops you visit for more advice on the designers that do this

All dresses can be altered to fit you perfectly. Also T length are good. I'm same height as u and will be wearing t length

I bought my dress from Wed2B on Tuesday, off the peg, going to a seamstress to get it altered because its too long and I cant walk in it without tripping up. Hoping I dont have to have too much cut off

I'm 5ft 4". I ordered a mori Lee dress. It came in full length, 3" shorter or 6" shorter. I ordered 3" shorter and can have a 2.5/3" heel x

I'm also 5ft2 and got my dress from wed2b, I had to have it shortened but it wasn't too expensive and it fit like a dream after!

I'm 5ft 1 and got my dress from Celebrations in Ossett (they also have a Facebook page) and due to the amount of money I saved on the dress in the sale, I'm happy to pay out for a seamstress to shorten it. It has lace detail at the bottom that needs unpicking and moving after the length has been shortened but I've been told I should only have to pay around £150 for that and the bust taking in!

Most bridal stores only stock standard sizes to fit a taller bride but have boxes for you to stand on. They will be altered to fit you accordingly. They don't tend to stock more than one sample so obviously stock those that would fit taller brides as well so that they can try them on. I'm 5'4" so just stood on a box.

I’m only 5ft 3 and my dress had a long train with it. They alter it at the front and never touched the back so my train was longer

Most dresses can be easily adjusted or made to measure if you have the budget, so don't worry too much about it

I'm also 5ft 2 and have had my dress turned up. Wasn't an issue that they were too long when trying on.

Hi there! I’m also 5.2. I took my heels along with me but didn’t really need them! I went to Ava Rose Hamilton in Silsden, they were amazing and I would highly recommend it.

Elenor Rose Bridal in Huddersfield is great and where I got mine. I'm 5'1 and didn't think the length of any of the dresses I tried swamped me. Plus they'll always shorten the dress to your height anyway. Good luck!

Don’t worry I’m 5ft and I didn’t go to any special bridal store for petite girls at all. They measure you and order your size and then when it comes in if it’s still a little long you can get the seamstress at the bridal store to alter it.

I'm shorter than you at 4 ft 9 and I found a beautiful Mori Lee dress. Most bridal shops have boxes to stand on whilst trying on all the dresses. What I found worse was being a size 8 and trying on dresses that was larger, even though they pinned them to fit!

The majority of dresses are sold for taller women with the view that its easier to take them up then it is to try and make them longer

Rebecca Bradley

i’m 5ft2 and in my opinion all dresses are made for 6ft brides but can all be taken up for you height. the staff should be able to help u find a dress that will still look fab with being taken up and rember if a pattern is on the edges of the dress it may not be there when bottom is chopped

I’m 4ft11 - take big shoes and stand on a box to get the idea of how the dress will look for floor length . I struggled with the tee / shorter dresses though - they were all too long to see what they would look like x

I’m 4 ft 11 so a proper midget and I bought my dress off the peg it’s currently about 2 ft too long and about 2 sizes too big so it’s off to the seamstress but it’s a dress which can be shortened some styles cannot . I won’t be wearing heels either lol

I am 4”11 and I can tell you all the dresses I tried on were too long but I had already brought my shoes so that made a difference and the lady at the boutique got me something to stand on so I could sort of see what it would look like once the dress was altered for my height which helped a lot. I brought my dress from a boutique that only sold sample sale/discontinued dresses so I tried on whatever they had in stock.
