Hi brides. Are anyone of you trying to loose weight ,/ stay in shape for the wedding. How do this work with your dresses. ? For example getting a dress 8 months until your day. Staying in shape. Or loose more weight . Does that change alterations a lot. ? Or what do you do if you havnt lost as much and the dress not fitting great ? What’s everyone experiencing with weight loose and dress fitting .

Hi I am trying to loose some weight have lost 10lbs but want to loose a little more. If you buy a dress with a lace up back you can pull it in tighter if you loose weight :)

I brought mine in October 2017 and do not get married until March 2019, my adulteration are booked for jan 2019, my dress was a little bit big when I brough it so I have room to grown but I don’t won’t to lose to much as it will lose the shape as it’s lace. Just maintaining a weight you will be fine

I've got a corset back which is ideal for me trying to loose weight as I won't have to fork out for alterations x

Sounds stupid but I bought a dress off the peg that was a bit too small for me with a corseted back, I've lost 17lbs and it now fits lovely and if I lose more I can just tighten the back more 😊 xx

generally dresses can be taken in by quite a lot by a good seamstress. you should factor this into the cost of your dress as you may have to have a few fittings. Not sure where you are buying your dress from but some shops will provide this service. Don't worry, it is a really common thing.xx

I bought mine when I was 4 months pregnant so at least I know I got into it with a baby bump so I have 6 months left to get down to at least that size again once a baby is born I didn't want too much pressure to have to loose lots of weight . Couldn't even tell I was pregnant in the dress

I got married November 2017 in January 2017 I went on a diet and knew I wanted to lose a lot so didn't try or buy my dress until August off the peg. I lost 56lb from January to my wedding so didn't want to pick something when I was bigger as it may not have suited my smaller frame x

Tell the shop. They can suggest styles that can take more alterations

I’m getting married September 2nd this year and have put off going to look for a dress until mid April as I want to lose as much weight as I can... I’ve been told most dresses can be taken in up to 2 dress sizes... but that a seamstress would need to have dress 3 months before weding😳!!!!!!.....I’ll still want to lose weight at that point so I’m going to find a seamstress as soon as I’ve got dress and book it in but have alterations done as late as possible... hopefully a month before... 😬😬x

I'm doing slimming world and I've lost 1 1/2 stone so far. Bought my dress this January and told the lady I plan on losing a bit more before wedding in August, she replied saying that if I do loose a bit more I won't need any alterations on my dress (lace up back ) . X

It’s best if you get a dress that looks good in how you look now... the dress shops can take them in up to 3 dress sizes down - so get a dress that looks good now, then try to loose as much as you can / want before the last alteration.

If you get a dress that’s smaller & try to slim into it, if you don’t make it then it’s harder & sometimes impossible to take it out.... better to take it in ️

Better to get bigger rather than smaller. Most dresses can be taken in up to two dress sizes.

I bought a corset back dress they are cheaper to alter apparently, its just the back panel that needs replacing, and if you don't loose a drastic amount you can do the dress up tighter to fit your body.

I’ve bought mine and not getting married till May 2020! They’ll order it 8 months before so my intention is to start dieting/exercising a little bit before that! There going to order a size 14 I’m a 14-16 so plenty of room for improvement!

I'm about to order mine. I'm loosing weight so order a size down. It's a lace up back which gives you more options size wise.. but I only plan on loosing about a stone or maybe two. ... which would make the dress I tried on too big.. so it is a risk.. but lost 6lb last week.. so it will slow but by Nov plan on being a UK 14 (so a wedding dress 16 lol )

I bought my dress in 2014, found out I was pregnant shortly after. Has my son July 2015. December 2015 found out I was pregnant again my daughter was born in September 2016. I put on loads of weight. January 2017, I joined SlimmingWorld and lost nearly 3 stone. My dress now fits and didn’t have to be altered, other than taking up and the sleeves bought in a bit x

The wedding dress shop said to me to buy my dress, 8 weeks before the wedding see a seamstress, then 6 weeks before the wedding pick the dress up & have the final fitting, this is where the dress gets steamed & put in its bag ready for the big day

Most dress places will be able to take your dress in I bought mine and have had it taken in twice already and I am still a year away from my wedding x

My dress was ordered in a size 18. I told the shop staff that I was on a diet and their reply was ‘All the brides say that dear’. Four months later when my dress arrived I’d already gone down to a size 12 and was still losing weight. They had to reorder a smaller dress for me. Then a week before the wedding they had to take it in as I had gone down to a size 10. In total I lost four and a half stone on the Scarsdale Medical Diet in readiness for my wedding.

Hey, I used to work in a bridal shop and it’s costs the same wether your take 3 inches or 1 inches so if you do get the dress size you are and lose weight it should be fine. I ordered my dress and I have lost 11 pounds and they have said it should be and I mentioned how I still want to lose a little more and they have me great confidence that it will still fit. Hope losing weight goes well! xx

I lost 4 stone for before my wedding. I was an inch off a size 12 when I ordered my dress (about September 2016 I think) so I ordered a 12 hoping I'd lose enough to fit in it! I was just under a size 8 by the final fitting (end of August 2017). I got married September 3rd 2017. My seamstress was an absolute miracle worker to be able to take in such an intricate dress so much without it looking like it had been altered at all! I was so worried about it!
