Hi ! Are you getting married at the venue or in a registry office? We’re torn between doing it a few days before for under £80 or at the venue for £400+

We are getting married at the registry office but it is costing around £500 and then we move to the reception venue. If it would cost under £80 I would think that is the option which only allows two witnesses so the answer may be based on the number of people you want there.

We are getting married at the venue. Yes it’s cheaper but you have the extra cost of cars from office to venue etc.

We got married at the registry office with 50 guests at a mid afternoon ceremony, and then on to a venue for drinks reception followed by evening buffet and reception. Worked really well for us.

Consider the price of a celebrant at the venue too - we figured it was pretty much the same

Why don't you get married a few days before and just take parents and don't tell everyone you got married. You can have anyone you know to perform the ceremony on your actual wedding day as you are already married. You can even exchange rings and have the time your wedding guests don't actually know you never married on the day. Or you can do the same but have a registrar perform the ceremony on the day as a bless which is roughly around £120 so still saving lots of money and again your guests won't even know .

We got married at the registry office on Tuesday, we originally paid £180 to get married on the 23rd but circumstances changed so we basically had a shotgun wedding and got a check for £100 off them to refund us. Was beautiful and intimate I loved it

We chose a venue because we will be in one place all day, don’t even have to go anywhere once hair and makeup is done except walk to the chapel ready to meet my beloved then straight into reception..... no hassles as everything is done and in place ready...... stress free day ️

It sounds like you have a tight budget and therefore registry office maybe your only option but, if not, think about how the venue looks compared to the RO, do you want to marry in front of all your family or just a few friends? Do you want everything all in one day so the whole day feel special or are you happy to marry earlier? If money is no issue I would rather have it at the venue but it's down to you

We've thought about getting married at a registry office and then having the wedding at the venue, but cost wise it's not too different. The £80 wedding isn't something your guests can come to, so i know my family would be incredibly disgruntled not to have been there to see us exchange our vows. The only other way is to have a celebrant at the venue, and then any costs saved become irrelevant.

Think about where you'll be happiest to have your memories. If you haven't paid for the venue yet, check council websites for licensed venues and see if there're any other places you haven't yet considered. Getting married on a weekday also reduces the registry call-out fee.

We're getting married at a registry office on a Friday for close family only, then out for a meal. Then the reception on the Saturday for everyone else X
