Hello Everyone :) Is anyone else doing their own makeup? I just feel like I’m already doing to spending a lot of money getting mine and my bridesmaids hair done. I also think I’m not too bad at makeup and want to keep my makeup fairly simple. Does anyone have tips for brides doing their own makeup? Thanks

Go to debenhams before the day to the make up section and say you rarely wear makeup and they will do it for you and give you a few samples you can use for the day. :)

I did my own make-up. Spent some time trying things out and buying a suitable foundation. I dont usually wear makeup so wasnt about to spend a fortune getting it done.

I did my own, figured I might aswell buy nice products instead and have them for after! I just spent a while looking round for a good foundation (whatever products you use though I really recommend the urban decay makeup fixing spray - I didn’t need to reapply my makeup at all throughout the day) and did a few trials myself. I know how I like my makeup and didn’t want to look like a different person on the day. If you are confident doing your own makeup I would say just do it

I did mine myself. After my person cancelled on me the day before. My wedding day was the second time in my life I’ve put full makeup on my face! (The first time being the night before!) if you’re happy to do it yourself then there’s no reason why you can’t!

I am doing my own make up. I’d rather buy the stuff and practice beforehand. Plus I want it to be simple and to look like me. I would find products you like in advance and practice the look you want. Make sure you are happy to do it and not get stressed. I really like benefit ‘they’re real’ mascara. I’m also using one of the super stay lip colours. They will last well with food and drink and are kiss proof. Not many do more subtle colours, I’d try max factor if you did want that. I’m going for a maybaline one in a cherry red colour but this goes well with my style of dress etc.

I will be doing my own makeup and my bridesmaids a the same. My sister is good so might hve her do it but I just can’t justify spending over 300£ on makeup for us all 🙈

Definitely try a few different bits out! Go to the different make up counters and see what feels best/is the easiest to apply!
I think I’m having someone do my make up but not my hair. I don’t have the patience for fake lashes etc!

Tip;
get someone to photograph your face, neck and shoulders during and after application so you can see how the make up photographs. It sometimes looks lighter/darker in photos than in the room you applied it. Nothing worse than two toned skin colour or an obvious foundation line in wedding pics.
Also, sit in front of a large window to apply. Again make up will look different in natural light than artificial.

I'm doing my own as we're going abroad to get married. I don't wear much normally so I got a 4 hour make up lesson from wowcher for £16 x

I'm doing my make up just going to buy a few more products I don't wear loads and I have seen people that's had there's done and it's not what they would usually wear don't want to look like iv got loads of makeup on when I don't wear much and they charge a fortune x

I did my own make up. I don't like a lot of heavy make up so I didn't want to worry about having too much plastered on me on my wedding day and not look like myself. I went to MAC to have a trial- just a standard one, not bridal. I bought a lot of the products that they used, probably spent £100 but I figured I'd rather pay that much to then own the products than have a one off application for a similar price! I took loads of photos so I could refer back to them and practiced a couple of times in the run up. Good luck! Xx

We are. We went to Debenhams and had a make up lesson at one of their counters and bought their products. Yes the products are costly but at least I’m gonna have them for a while rather than pay a fortune for one day 🤔

I plan on doing my own! Going to take me bridesmaids to the make up for ever counter in Debenhams and pay for us all to have a make up lesson - the money for the lesson is then discountable against products so I will buy us each a lipstick for the day and some products to keep our makeup on our faces with that! X

I only ever wear makeup on special occasions and only wear mascara and eyeliner. I personally think if i hired a makeup artist i would end up washing it all off as i dont like it all over my face so im doing my own on the day too!

I went and had a couple of make up trials at beauty counters they wrote down everything used and the order used in for me. I then picked the items that I really liked from both the trials and practiced at home. I hated the thought of spending hundreds of pounds to not feel or look like myself this way although it was based around suggestions and advice it was make up I liked in my style. X

Nope, I am having mine done. I want to start the day feeling pampered and want my bridal party to feel the same so I am getting hair and make-up done for me and bridesmaids. Certainly not going heavy, just natural but pretty :)

I did my own... had a couple trials but they didnt wow me? Get a foundation without spf in it (it can give you that white, pale look when photographed with a flash) start with your eyes then do the face so no eyeshadow powed or smudges ruin the rest of your make up and plenty you tube tutorials! Good luck! X

If it helps and your bridesmaids really want their hair and makeup done, ask them to pay for it? Mine want there’s done and are paying for there own x

I would have it done professionally as the make up they use is specifically for looking good on photos. You can have it very natural but honestly worth every penny Just get yours done. You don’t want to be stressing on the day if it goes wrong plus it doesn’t last the same. That is my opinion your only going to do this once and you want perfect pictures xx good luck

I was going to do my own, but as I'd only spent about £50 on my dress, I thought sod it. So I had my hair and make-up done by the fantastic Francesca Fonzarelli in Hertfordshire. She travels to anywhere in Herts and she's as cool as her name suggests.

Does anyone know what foundation doesn't reflect in photographers flash. Read years ago that certain types react with the flash used?

I would recommend popping along to bare minerls, they are great at finding the right products and showing you the best ways to use them, on line bloggers are great too for hints and tips! My daughter is doing mine, she is so much betrer than me with it being that she is a teenager! Good luck, hope you have a wonderful day!

I'm a odd one hahaa
I'm having my hair and makeup sone by one of my Maid of Honors daughter who is doing it as a wedding gift, also one of my best friends who isn't able to be a maid of honor is helping to do both too...
There is myself, 2 maid of honours and the two mums...
I wanted to save on the budget but not stress about doing it myself as I kow if it went wrong by my own hand I'd be in tears haha
They are both fab at hair and make up x
If your confident do it.
If your bridesmaids are good too then have some sessions doing each others...? Do what ever you want to there is no set rules xx just be happy

My sister went to Boots and booked in to have her make up done. When she was happy she bought the products she would use for the day. Much cheaper than a make-up artist and you get to keep your makeup for future use.

Just showered and did my hair & makeup normally and put on my white dress. Felt like me, looked like me, was me! Didn't even have professional photos. We did have a castle and a big dinner party and we gave out disposable cameras to capture 'reality'

My friend did hers herself. She went to a Mac counter and got them to do a trial on her, she bought the makeup and did it herself on the day. X

For my brother's wedding, my mum and I went to a Clarins counter beforehand and had a make up trial. They wrote down everything they used. We then went back the morning of the wedding, the ladies did our make up again, and it cost £15 each which was redeemable against a product so we both bought a lipstick for touch ups. The make up was fab and lasted all day.

I dont wear makeup but will be using a make up artist for my day (100% natural looking) but i just never make the effort and the times i have (mothers/brothers wedding) really gives me a confidence boost. Looking forward to actually deciding how much though for my own wedding as did feel bizzare at my brothers.
