Hi all you lovely brides, I'm in desperate need of some advice!! So I've just been dress shopping for the first time and had a terrible experience. I am size 18 and was told they definitely have my size to try on - well they didn't, I had to try on size 10 and while I want to lose weight I couldn't get these dresses on so it was impossible to see what they look like properly. I was also pushed towards the most expensive dress. Can you all tell me your experiences? Even slimmer brides. Have any of you purchased off the peg? If you did how much did you have to pay for alterations? This lady said she could order that dress in my size and it would take 6 months, but if I did that without properly trying it on then 6 months later what if I didn't like it??!! I am getting married in August so need to find something fairly quick, but I'm wondering if off the peg would be better. Thanks in advance!

Hi Wed2b stores have dresses from size 6-30 and start at £99 £899 I hope this helps :)

The dresses I liked in the made to measure bridal shops were £1,400, I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a dress! I got mine from Wed2B for £600, I haven't have the adjustments done yet but have been quoted £200 from 1 place near the Wed2B store, I will be getting a couple more quotes before I get it done as I think I can get it cheaper. That was to take the hem up, put in a bussell and take it a bit around the hips.

I went to a store in Burton and whilst usually a wedding dress can be two sizes up from your actual size they had up to size 28. So as a size 20 they had more dresses than I could try on x

Sorry to hear that. I know a couple of plus size ladies who have had similar experiences in more boutique stores too and came away very upset. I advised they tried Wed2b where I got my dress from because it was such a great and comfortable experience and they always have plus size dresses in stock. One of then found her dress there and loved the experience! Plus they're not expensive. Good luck! X

Wed2b are really good as people have already said
Elite bridal outlets are also really good which are both buy off of the peg shops
Where is that you live?
There is an amazing shop in Sheffield called celebrating curves and the lady that runs it is lovely

My sister and I had similar experiences in the first bridal shops we went to, but then went to Elderberry Brides in Basingstoke where we found our dream dresses. They stock all sizes so you can get a feel for what styles look good on your figure. You can then buy off the shelf or order in. They also have fantastic sales a couple of times a year.

I bought originally from a standard boutique in size 24, hated the experience and the shop threatened to call the police on our party when the dress was late because Forever Yours was closing and they just wanted us out because of the complaint.

Secondly I bought my size 4 off the peg from an independant who had a "make an offer" sale on. Went in on spec as I wanted an evening gown for a photoshoot and ended up with my wedding dress! No fuss, no hassle. Not had the length altered yet but I'm so happy with it!

Go to a different shop! Perhaps have a look at price tags b4 u book an appointment so u know what sort of prices their dresses are. Many bridal shops have dresses for just under £500 new and around 12-16 weeks wait. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll find the right dress and look beautiful 👰🏼

I'd go to a few more shops! There was one or two where the dresses were either a size 10 or 24! Both of which made it impossible to see what it would look like. Be tough. Don't get pushed into making a decision until you're sure. Especially if it's out of budget. One place I tried on loads of dresses in my size at reasonable prices was David's bridal. There's a few branches in the UK. I didn't end up buying from there in the end but as an experience it was the best. Oh and you still have just enough time for made to measure. I bought mine end of Aug last year and it came into the store last week!

I bought my dress yesterday. I'm an 8-10 and bought the dress off the peg in a 14 as wedding dress sizes run 2 sizes smaller than traditional high street. Luckily for me the dress fits me like a glove and only needs a minor alteration that my mum can easily do. I got it for £500 when ordering the same dress in would have cost £1,050. I also get married in August and the shop owner did warn me that ordering a dress in and needing alterations for a wedding 6.5 months away really cuts it fine in terms of timing.

You clearly weren’t in the right shop! Don’t let this experience put you off, I was a size 18 and pregnant when I found my dress. I went to 1 shop and they were horribly snooty, I said I wanted a look to get an idea of styles and they just told me I had to make an appointment to do so! I walked out and went to 4 or 5 other shops who were amazing! My dress wasn’t something I’d ever imagined myself in so keep looking! It’s supposed to be fun so don’t go back to that shop! My dress was a steal, it was reduced to £50 as it was end of line and the last one and they couldn’t have ordered any more! That was from a bridal shop! Your dream dress is out there :)

Adrienne Merrick

Keep shopping! Look at lots of different options. Off the peg is great but it does mean that they just have what they have. There are hundreds of wedding dress shops everything from high end to previously loved. Lots of options to choose from. Ordering a dress yes can take Upto 6 months but there are plenty of other options that don't. Please don't get too upset from one bad experience. Just stick it on the I'm not going back to that shop experience. Any decent good sales person will ask if you have a budget in mind and be able to help you accordingly. Even some high street stores do lovely wedding dresses. Monsoon phase 8 plus many more. Get out there and visit all types of wedding shops. Your dress is out there you'll probably find it where you least expect! Good luck.

I'm sure there will be plenty of shops near you that will have dresses in your size, don't go for something you're not sure of. I bought mine off the peg, a size too big for £700. It had to be taken in and taken up (a lot of work as the detail at the bottom had to be moved up too) - cost around £250 for alterations! Good luck

UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

I'm sorry you had such an awful experience :-(
I was the opposite to you, I was a size 4 and all the dresses in the shop were size 14/16 or more, they all looked huge on me and I struggled to get the feel for it especially as I was so self conscious about being under weight.
But the shop I went to was amazing and the staff were so helpful and understanding, they found the 'one' after having me try on pretty much all the dresses in the shop - once they clipped me in it to show the shape it should have been I got a bit of confidence back and I bought off the rack as I only had 4 months before the big day and I too was told a new dress takes 6 months!

It all worked out well in the end, I managed to put a bit of weight on to go up to a size 6, and the alterations were amazing, the dress was very tight fighting after they had worked their magic!
I hope you have a better experience in the next shop you go to, good luck X

Deffinatley shop around. I personally had an awful experience at wed2be. Nothing fit me right and would of needed alterations but same as what you have said you can't tell what it's going to look like on once altered. I popped to another little bridal shop and found a few off the peg I liked that were a close enough size for me to see how they looked properly. I didn't want to take the one off so that's the one I purchased. There charging 60 poumds for whatever alterations are needed. Xx

I was also a size 18 when I went wedding dress shopping. I was really lucky to go to a shopthat had dresses in bigger sizes or at least 16s that went on with an insert in the back. My sister tried on one dress for me as was in a smaller size but the lady in the shop said if I liked it they would see if they could get a bigger sample for me to try. Go to a different shop and try not to be put off by your experience. With regards to expense. They left me in a room with loads of dresses and said have a look without me here and place dresses you want to try in this way so I know which to bring through

UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

I’m a size 16, got mine from a local bridal shop for £600! They had a lot of ex samples etc. I was worried as I am a weird shape but they had so many for me to try on! I fell in love with the first dress I tried but the lady advised me to try different styles which I did- still got married in the first dress though lol. They had a woman they recommended for alterations and she did mine for £100 even though there was a lot of beadwork x

I had the same .... an awful experience in wed2b the sizes where so off.
I am a size 16 and went to a shop made for bigger ladies, and the experience was much more pleasant. I fitted into size 16/18, and ended up with off the peg and took home there and the ! Xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

I didn’t like Wed2b as I felt they weren’t cut in the right place for curvier brides so they didn’t fit right! I’d definitely go to another shop, I went to 2 shops and although the samples were too small they put a panel in and pulled it together with elastic so I could see what it would look like they were amazing with me x definitely try another bridal shop x

UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

Find another shop. Rather evil of them to force a dress on you and not try it on before your sure! Horrid customer service.
I suggest you look about at other stores. As a suggestion for trying different styles/cuts try somewhere like m&s or debenhams (sounds daft i know but they carry a variety of styles and most sizes too) at least then you can see which you prefer and are then fore armed when in a bridal store. I did it by trying on wedding gowns and evening/ball gowns to find the shape i liked and that suited me! Sadly in the end my mum made my gown as i couldnt find it in my size (6/8 waist with a 10/12 bust & hips!) But i refused to let the bridal stores bully me into getting a dress that was ok and would need alterations! I know not everyone can have a custom dress but there are some great stores out there with friendly helpful staff just gotta look in my experience Wed2be and prima donna were the most helpful and a few inderpendant stores in my area. But alot of big chains were rude pushy and downright nasty to my mum (who was a size 28 at the time) so i walked out after a few mins of looking for her outfit and a gown for me. Sad as i had 6 bridesmaids to clothe too. Their loss.

Go somewhere else if the customer service wasn't up to scratch and your not happy with the product then take your business elsewhere . I happened to buy mine off the peg think I payed about
£150 in alterations as had to have quiet a bit off the length and I’m a size 18 I was never pushed towards expensive dresses yes tried on some dresses that where to small and some that wouldn’t even go on as the girls in the shop encouraged me to try all styles to see what suited me

I got mine from a Bridal Reloved store - designer dress, sample, one of a kind - cost £600. It needs alterations but she said it should be no more than £200. The lady spent like 4 hours with me trying on loads of different dress styles until we found the perfect one. It was a really lovely experience, I'd definitely go elsewhere xc

I'm getting married in August and the dress I have chosen and tried on for the second time was a size 10 and I'm a 14 bottom and 10 top but even the top didn't fit round me. The range I tried on had pictures in slim models and plus size models on their site which was really helpful. If you aren't a particular size all through your body then having one off the peg will be much more difficult to buy one.

Hi i know exactly how you feel i had this in a few shops (although they were much nicer). How can you buy a dress you have never tried on? I had mine from Davids bridal. There is one in Birmingham and a few more across the country. Its an american brand and it was amazing. Every dress they stock they have in every size so you get to see what it would look like. They even do alterations. All the dresses are under 2000 from a few hundred. Even stocking designers like vera wang. I cant recommend this shop enough and all the staff were wonderful on every visit i had. Dont let the other places get you down you deserve to feel wonderful and fantastic while picking your dress. Defiantly go somewhere like davids where they really care about your experience as well as getting the right dress. Just saw that there's also a sale on. Good luck finding your dress xx http://www.davidsbridal.co.uk/

That's a shocking way to treat someone. I'm in the wedding business and I know my local bridal shop says the average size is 16-18. Shop around and make sure you get treated like s princess. This should be a once in a lifetime experience to remember!

Go elsewhere! I went to a local shop to me (Celebrations Bridal House) who have sales every 6 months as when they purchase new stock from designers they don't have the room for old stock so sell it off! I'm getting married in August also and found my dress the day after I booked the registrar due to a well timed sale visit! My gown is off the peg and a size 16, once I get back to my pre-baby weight I'm more like a 10/12 and the owner of the shop advised a few seamstresses she knows would change around £150 for the alterations I require (I'm also a short arse so a lot of length needs taking off ) Check out Facebook pages and websites and ask people local to you on recommendations for your local stores!

Wed2b! Wed2B! Wed2b! Absolutely couldn't recommend them more. They have some absolutely gorgeous dresses in all sizes, I'm a 22 (26 in Wedding Dress sizing) and I had a lot of choice. The women there are great, not snooty or turning their nose up at me because of my size. Google plus size wedding dress shops as well, even if you need to travel somewhere it'll be a much better experience than going to a skinny bride shop. Don't let it get you down, it's the way the industry is but there are a lot of boutiques around that understand and cater to more than model sizes.

I bought all my dresses online from a website called jjshouse.

Every single dress was true to size and fit perfectly. No alterations needed and I could not have had a better and easier experience.

I spent £350 in total and got, my dress, my 2 bridesmaids dress, 2 flower girls dresses and my veil and shoes. All absolutely amazing quality and stunning.

I am a seamstress myself so could tell a cheap badly made dress a mile off but all dresses ordered as exactly what is photographed on their site.

The shoes I ordered were too small and they refunded me without returning them when it was my own error.

I really can’t express enough how much I’d highly recommend them, ordering online is always a tricky one but honestly this site is amazing and their customer services is spot on, every message I sent I got a reply within 24hours.

These are the dresses I ordered (not all in these colours though) ❤️

I found a dress I loved at a wedding fair but it was a size 20 and discontinued, I tried every where to find it in my size but couldn’t. I looked in wed2b but nothing really had the same feel, plus when I said I was looking for fitted but not fish tail they kept pulling out fish tail for me to try. Eventually my colleague at work gave me a number for a lady that made her dress. I went to see her in her home studio. She has dresses ready to buy, she can design from scratch, or like I’m doing, taking bits I liked on other dresses and making the dress I picked my own. She knew exactly what I meant by fitted but not fishtail. I have brought it off the peg, it’s £700 all in, alterations, add ons, the changes she making to it etc. Didn’t see the point in ordering the same dress for £1100 that we are making changes to anyway, then the alterations and everything on top of that. She will also come and dress me on the day and any issues with any dresses they will fix there and then so no worry about buttons off, broken zips etc

Go to other shops. Probably best to go into the shop and have a look and talk to them. I only got my dress last weekend for my wedding in August and was told I still had plenty of time to get one ordered in and altered. The woman in the shop was fantastic and stuck to my budget. When I tried on my dress, even though it was a few sizes too small, I knew it was the one. Don't let this experience put you off x

UKbride Administrator

Go elsewhere. The shop I bought mine in had at least a couple of sizes of each - 10/12 and around 18/20 - so could cater to most brides.
If you like a lace up back they can be left looser to give you an idea.
A good shop should ask your budget and stick to it (mine did recommend a couple a little above my budget but not massively so).

I got my dress from Wed2B. Personally I would only buy a dress off the peg if it needs minor alteration like some length taking off, cups being sewn in etc. As like you said you may not like it when it's altered to fit you. It's a real shame you had that experience. The first time I went dress shopping I didn't really enjoy it but the second time was much better and I found my dress that time. My alterations which include length taking up, cups sewn in and belt sewn on are going to cost £50 so it's not too pricey. Good luck and hope your second experience is better. I'd definitely recommend Wed2B :)

Go to other wedding dress shops! You absolutely have to try on a dress that’s at least close to your size otherwise you’ll never know how it will look until you’ve already paid for it & then you’ll end up starting again! David’s Bridal has a really good range of dress sizes & their most expensive dress is £2k. Good luck, don’t settle, it’s your day xx

I bought my dress off the peg in a 50% sale. The shop I went to they weren't pushy at all. They didn't have a choice of size for each dress but there were dresses there ranging from 12 to an 18. The dress I chose was too big for me but they pinned it in for me to see what it looked like and my alterations only cost £35.
I would suggest going to a few different bridal shops as I think it's important to feel comfortable and happy with the service as well as finding the right dress. I will also add that I planned our wedding in 5 months so buying off the peg was the better choice for me. Good luck, I hope you find the perfect dress! X

Hi, I am also size 16/18 an had an awful experience with my first dress shop I went into was told I need to loose a lot of weight to even look nice in my wedding day. Had some very rude experiences being a plus size bride. The second shop I visited told me they had a plus size selection (3/4 of which would not fit me) and every dress I tried on they wanted me to give my immediate reaction and literally kicked me out of the shop quite rudely for no obvious reason other then they believed I was wasting their time.

I ended up going to a plus size specialist shop in the end mostly because I wanted to be able to try on every single dress if I wanted too !

No matter what your paying for the dress and should be treated with respect and decency not contempt or rudeness. X

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

I'd be going to a different shop that's terrible customer service telling you that they had something that they didn't. You really want to try dresses on that'll fit as they can look gorgeous on the hanger but just not suit you at all. X

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

Oh Hun try a different bridal shop.
So my experience was slightly different. I tried a dress on that was too big but I knew I liked it so what they did was called around to find the sample in my size and 'borrowed' it at a cost of £50 to be to have to shipped in.
When I bought the dress, the £50 was taken off the total cost.

If the bridal shop doesn't offer this option then it's not the bridal shop for you.
Do not let anyone make you feel like you haven't got options when it comes to buying the most important dress for you. Xxx

Wed2be are amazing! They have stores all over the UK and I had an incredible experience buying my dress from there. I'm a plus sized woman but I was totally spoilt for choice and not made to feel any different from any other bride that went in there. It's all off the peg there but my dress fits me so perfectly that I won't be needing alterations we paid £780 for the dress, underskirt and veil xx

I tried a dress on in a shop size 12 .. way too big, cost £1700 ... my mum found my exact same dress in my exact size for £350 so didn’t need alterations, just dry cleaned and turning up. So my advice is to shop around and even look on Ebay for the dress u want. X

Seconding David's Bridal! I had a similar experience in another shop being reassured that there would be dresses for me to try on and they were all tiny sample sizes that didn't fit anywhere. Being able to try on my actual size made it so much better. Staff were all wonderful, and although the orders arrived quickly, you can buy the one in the shop if you're tight on time. X

Look around. We have a wedding dress shop that only stocks dresses from size 16 upwards. It is by appointment only and they only have one customer in at anytime. That way their attention is solely on you and you don’t have other customers watching you. Good luck .

Go to a different shop. I measured as a size 24 in the dress I liked the lady assured me I would get the sample on and although it didn’t fasten up 100 % I got it on and could see how it will look on. It fit everywhere except my boobs she ordered it for me saying it can be taken in upto two sizes as I’m losing weight too but know my boobs don’t get smaller (previously lost 8.5 stone still wearing the same size bra but put 4 stone back on whilst pregnant) my dress will be in the shop in June ready for any alterations i need for my September wedding x

I've been to Liverpool Bridal Boutique. I am a size 20 and they had all different sizes to try. Even if it was a small size they never once made me feel insecure or fat. They knew exactly what to put on my shape and did not steer me to anything that was above budget or something I didn't want. You should feel special on your day and it's their job to make sure of that! Xc

I bought my dress yesterday. The first shop we went to was really hectic and whilst the sales lady was lovely, it was chaos with 4 other brides in the changing rooms all trying to share mirrors and boxes. The sizing was all over the place with me fitting in 10s but then not in an 18. It does really knock your confidence.
The shop I bought from, the woman was lovely. Not pushy and upfront about pricing. She offered her advice but always took my opinions and feelings into account. I can't rate her enough, anyone in the Manchester area of recommend Jackie at Bespoke Bridal Boutique

Web2b definitely have a wide range of sizes at reasonable prices but go on a weekday when they are quieter as they don’t do appointments and you will have to wait and you only get to try 4 dresses at a time. But they are available to buy off the peg and you’ll just need to get it altered if need be.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 21 Jan 2018

Bridal is always about two sizes smaller than it’s equivant dress size.
I’m an 18 too and had to buy an 22(button up back... I hate corsets)
So don’t feel bad about what the label says.
A good boutique should have larger samples in each “silhouette” or shape, so you can get an idea what suits you.
If the shop you went to doesn’t have that, try elsewhere. It’s the most important purchase of your wedding. Xxxx

I've bought my dress off the peg and it's awesome. I actually went to look at another dress I'd seen online which was ridiculously expensive. This one was my size but damaged - when I asked what the damage was, it had been worn in a fashion show and had fake tan marks on the inside where no one could see so they reduced or by £300. Incidentally these marks came out with a baby wipe so can't even be seen now. There are definitely bargains to be had, and no one will know mine is second hand on the day!! Good luck! X

I didn’t want to spend too much on my dress, so I started looking at high street/online options. Wed2Be had some nice options but I was lucky and found something I liked on ASOS. No pressure to buy anything and it came next day. I don’t know if high street sizes are food for you? I can be anything between a 16 and a 12 depending on style or make. Very difficult to tell but it took the stress out of it for me!

The first shop I went the lady was very pushy and kept calling me afterwards. The dress was £2,400. I tried a smaller size but it was open a bit at the back. I went to a Wed2Be but I didn’t love the dress. I then made appointments at shops in Staffordshire which is far from me but only stockists of designers I liked from wedding fairs. I went with another designer in the end but both the shops I went to had lovely staff and loads of sizes. My dress was far cheaper and I loved it!

It got to the poin5 I started ordering from shops like Marisota and John Lewis so that I could try them on in my own home. It was very stressful but eventually went to Emma Roy in Edinburgh who had a great selection to try on and found my dress. I would recommend buying off the peg. I went to a place called Townhouse bridal based near St Neots. The lady there only sells sample sale or discontinued dresses so you get lovely designer gowns but she never sells anything more than £650, but most of the dresses are £500 or less. She had a range of sizes with different styles. I never once felt any pressure to buy and she was incredibly helpful. I found, paid and took mine home the same day. My alterations cost £335 in total, but that is quite high as my dress has a lot of layers and I’m short so needed quite a bit of altering height wise, she also made sure it fit everywhere else, replaced all the buttons at the back with glass buttons and added a bustle so my long train can be pulled up after the ceremony so I can dance and walk around easily. The lady altering my dress took 2 weeks in total to complete the alterations.

As it was my dress was just under £500 but also brought a Lace bolero for £99. Because the dress was a Lace Up back I found even losing weight it would still fit. I was also very luck my mum was a dress maker and she took the dress up. But wed2b did have available alteration details if needed. I'm a size 4-6 so at the other end of this, but was incredibly lucky to get a perfect fit off the peg! I'd recommend looking for bridal store sales. Not sure on your area, but try David's bridal in Westfield stratford. Alterations are around £100 for the standard take up, adding a bussel (not sure if that's how you spell it!) and they have all different sizes in all different styles. Although they didn't have the one my mum chose in Stock, they're getting it in for her with a turnaround of 4weeks! Just found them very helpful in there, wish I'd known about them when I got married. Also the average dress in there ranged between £400-600 roughly. Obviously some were more than this, but just as a general rule, most were this sort of price. Good luck xx

Hi don’t be pushed into anything you’re not happy with. A good bridal shop won’t do this. I chose a sample dress 18 months ago for my wedding in June which did do up but was clearly too small which would have meant would only fit properly if I shed 2 stone. The manager was lovely with me as I went back several times to try it on. I went back a few weeks ago and chose another one which looks so much nicer and fits!! It’s not worth buying a dress which is way if the radar size wise. You’ll have enough stress without your dress not fitting. I kep thinking the whole time yes Ud diet but didn’t and made me feel unhappy. I’m excited and looking forward to my day now.

Hi! What a horrific experience they should in no way push you towards a dress that’s too expensive, whilst bridal shops don’t stock all sizes they should have way more sizes than 10’s! I went to a wed2b warehouse after some really crap experiences at proper bridal shops. I actually found an amazing dress I adored at a fraction of the cost of what normal bridal store charges! Hi there,
Have you considered getting a dress made? Look up any local dressmakers in your area and have a wee chat. I don't think it'll be as expensive as many people imagine it to be!

Have you tried Wed 2 be? Apparently they are good. I'm getting my dress done by my aunt so can't really offer advice on shops

I’m a big girl I rang shops first to see if they did plus size. As my 1st wedding was a similar experience I was humiliated. But I have my second dress it was much better experience as I was prepared

Oh no poor you. Ive just bought my dress yesterday from a small establishment. Went to try one i really liked and ended up with a different one i fell in love with. The staff were lovely and very helpful. One thing i did realise was i had to get a dress 2 sizes bigger than i am. Dont be put off by this. My dress fits perfectly and if i lose weight before the big day can be either altered by them or re orded. Your experience should be a special one so dont let this put you off. If they are good they should have a site for you to check out dtesses and sizes in stock before you go. Good luck finding the dress for you.

I saw your message and felt so sad for you!! That is not an experience you deserve, especially when being a bride is overwhelming at times anyway!! Everyone's answered my reply already.. I went to Wed2b in Camberley, Surrey and found the experience wonderful. Even if it was only 20 mins to close I turned up as I had a horrendous time in the 1st shop, got stuck in over 2 hour's worth of traffic & couldn't find a parking space :( I was exhausted, hot & sweaty & gutted I never had much time to try on dresses.. but I walked in to a lovely warm smile, immaculate shop, wonderful assistant and found my dress in 20 mins !! Complete opposite of what I wanted too!

I'm 4foot 11 so every dress drowns my height as they are made for supermodels as they are designer but Wed2b has all sorts of shapes & sizes sorted.. I used one of their local recommendations and I'm booked in 12 weeks before the big day for 1st fitting, around £150-200 I think is expected (I have around 2 foot needing altering haha!!)
I really hope your next experience fulfils you with the confidence & treatment you deserve. Congratulations by the way!! Xx

You can definetly find a dress off the peg. Shades of White near Cambridge were great and had a variety of sizes. They also just had a massive sale. I also searched for a plus size boutique and they had lots of options I could try. It’s just a case of trying different shops. I went to a few that were rubbish, a couple that made me feel rubbish but also found some great ones. Keep trying x

Hello darling. I can give you the biggest advice ever ! WED2B ! You can go,buy a dress and take it with you the same day. plus the most expensive dress cost like £899 . Im getting married in august this year and i already bought my dress there but i will take it to seamstress a month before to change the size etc because im planning to be much skinnier as well. I went to London Surbiton but they have branches all over the UK. I bought 3rd dress that i tried on. You can check them out on instagram or they website. I could not desribe how happy i am with my dress

another thing that i forgot to mention is, i am size 10/12 with DD brest i had to get size 16 in the shop :o but dont be upset if the same will happen to you because anyway you will have to take it to seamstress to get it fit perfectly just before the wedding

Hi, I bought my dress off the peg yesterday. I was definitely not going to order and risk it not being right. I tried on a few at an outlet centre- they had all sizes and were really helpful but I went away totally demoralised - but because of prices not sizes. I went to a prom dress shop near Beverley in East Yorkshire- they had lots of dresses for prom and weddings and I actually went for a sale prom dress that is truly as beautiful as any of the wedding dresses I tried and was a quarter of the price. I am going to be a beach mermaid!!! Hope you find what you are looking for and maybe think outside the box. I never dreamed of my wedding dress looking like this one but it is unbelievable and I’m really happy with it xx

I’ve bought my dress today from WED2B, very helpful. They do have a good range of sizes. Im a size 16 in their dresses. They don’t have all the range featured on their website in every store but get 2 deliveries per week- I’d advise to phone ahead and check so it’s not a wasted visit. I’ve been told by one bridal shop it would be 3 months to order in, but I am getting married 17th May.

Where abouts do you live ? There is a shop called bride with curves she has lots of bigger sizes that will definitely fit and she clips them in and they're reasonably priced too you should look her up and explain your situation 😊😊p.s. she had the same experience and told us that is why she opened the shop xx

Iv been married before and I had off the peg, I bought a £1600 dress for £300, all it needed was dry cleaned and it was stunning, if you were made to feel that way, go to another shop. Never go back there. It should not be that kind of experience. X

Hi there,

I bought my dress 3 weeks ago from wed2be, this was off the peg. I’m a size 10 but wed2be cater for all shapes and sizes. They have a huge amount of dress rails from size for to I think a size 20. The girls who work there really listen to what you would like. I would say take a trip to your nearest store, you can try on as many as you like, it may just give you a chance to find your shape.

Hope this helps xx

I’ve bought mine on eBay. It’s a little too big for me and quite a lot too long! I have a quote of £168 for my alterations. Could you visit a dressmaker and get something designed just for you? x

Hi, so sorry you’ve had this experience.

As a size 20 bride I was very anxious and have even postponed my wedding before due to the anxiety of dress shopping.

Wed 2 b are an amazing company and can’t do enough for you. Amazing selection of dresses in store to try on up to size 32’s!
Visit their website and see if they have a branch near you. You won’t regret it. They gave me so much help and confidence.

Good luck xx

I think it depends where you go.
I’m a size 30 and had an amazing experience at a wonderful shop who work in plus sizes only. I wasn’t pushed into anything, and she was super supportive.

I was so worried before I went, but relieved it went well.

Hey! I bought a dress off the peg in the sale. It was 2 sizes too big and it was limited edition and the last one left in the UK so I bought it there and then without thinking about it... I had it half price in the sale which was great but still over my budget because the original rrp was so high. But now I've found out that the alterations are going to cost me £300 when I was originally quoted £150 :(. So get alteration quotes before you buy too to check that it can definitely be altered. I was told I would have no problem getting it altered two sizes down but now the seamstress is saying it will be difficult because of the material and the amount it needs altering and that's why it's costing so much more. There's loads of shops out there just keep looking. Message shops in the area and ask if they have dresses on the peg in your size before you go. Have you tried web2b?

Rachel Amanda

Wed2b are good but if you are anywhere near sheffield I would recommend celebrating curves bridal boutique at Hackenthorpe Jane is amazing and only stocks plus size dresses. Her alterations ladies are awesome too! Would definitely recommend, she has a sale section too if you want off the rack x

Hi, im a size 12/14 and there were very few sizes in the shops i went to that fit me. Luckily i found a dress i loved (was too small when i tries it on but ordered it in my size). If you haven’t felt completely sure about a dress yet then id advise you not ti buy iy

Sophie Watson

Angel brides in Leeds, think they have more stores, sell from sizes 14 to 34, with you been size 18 you will need a size 20-22 as the dresses are always 2 sizes small, best advice is to look for curvy bride stores, of the peg is so much easier

Rachel Hart
Rachel Hart 27 Feb 2018

Ahhh that's horrible that you were treated like that....go somewhere else, she doesn't deserve your money. I'm a size 16 & bought my dress off the rail. Needs slight alterations & the woman was fab. She asked me to try it on, first dress I did & I fell in love with it. Tried on others to be sure, but went back to original & bought it. My lady knew what would suit me & found me the dress. Go somewhere else as the experienced ones will know what will suit you...good luck x

Hi there. I was a size 16 when I went shopping and I tried a dress on that was too small. Luckily I found the perfect one. I have lost 3&1/2 stone since and now have to pay £230 for alterations which is almost half of what my dress cost! It’s not easy finding a dress but when u find the right one you’ll just know. Wedding shops should have all sizes to try on. It’s unacceptable to not have any for your size to try. I would keep looking around Hun.

I also recommend wed2b, which goes up to size 30. You buy the one you try on if you like it, they're not pushy but do encourage you to buy it then if you want it as they say it may not be there when you come back as they can't hold it. I needed some alterations to my dress and its approx about £165 for all, at the max price. This includes shortening the dress (I'm 5'1!) adding a belt i bought that i want sewn on (open back, so don't want a big bow on the back!) and also shortening the straps so it doesn't move around as much. I'm also having a loop on the end so we can over bustle it in the evening. It also may come under that, she said 165 was the max price if there was issues!

My mum is a 16-18 and we had a similar problem when we were looking for her this time last year. She ended up buying off the peg from Wed2b. My mum said this was the best shop she went to. The adjustments cost £100 from a local company but I guess it might depend what you need doing as to price. Hope you get sorted x

I went to wed2b, they have stores up all over the country. They stock all sizes and the price ranges from £99 to £699. I went to the Southampton store and the staff were so nice and helpful. I chose to have bits added to mine but I found my own seamstress and it’s cost me £150 which I think is pretty good for the amount of work I’m having done.
I hope you find your dream dress soon
