Hi all you lovely brides, I'm in desperate need of some advice!! So I've just been dress shopping for the first time and had a terrible experience. I am size 18 and was told they definitely have my size to try on - well they didn't, I had to try on size 10 and while I want to lose weight I couldn't get these dresses on so it was impossible to see what they look like properly. I was also pushed towards the most expensive dress. Can you all tell me your experiences? Even slimmer brides. Have any of you purchased off the peg? If you did how much did you have to pay for alterations? This lady said she could order that dress in my size and it would take 6 months, but if I did that without properly trying it on then 6 months later what if I didn't like it??!! I am getting married in August so need to find something fairly quick, but I'm wondering if off the peg would be better. Thanks in advance!
Hi Wed2b stores have dresses from size 6-30 and start at £99 £899 I hope this helps :)
The dresses I liked in the made to measure bridal shops were £1,400, I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a dress! I got mine from Wed2B for £600, I haven't have the adjustments done yet but have been quoted £200 from 1 place near the Wed2B store, I will be getting a couple more quotes before I get it done as I think I can get it cheaper. That was to take the hem up, put in a bussell and take it a bit around the hips.
I got my dress from wed2b they were amazing I bought a size 14 but they had dresses in all different sizes x
I went to a store in Burton and whilst usually a wedding dress can be two sizes up from your actual size they had up to size 28. So as a size 20 they had more dresses than I could try on x
Sorry to hear that. I know a couple of plus size ladies who have had similar experiences in more boutique stores too and came away very upset. I advised they tried Wed2b where I got my dress from because it was such a great and comfortable experience and they always have plus size dresses in stock. One of then found her dress there and loved the experience! Plus they're not expensive. Good luck! X
Wed2b are really good as people have already said
Elite bridal outlets are also really good which are both buy off of the peg shops
Where is that you live?
There is an amazing shop in Sheffield called celebrating curves and the lady that runs it is lovely
My sister and I had similar experiences in the first bridal shops we went to, but then went to Elderberry Brides in Basingstoke where we found our dream dresses. They stock all sizes so you can get a feel for what styles look good on your figure. You can then buy off the shelf or order in. They also have fantastic sales a couple of times a year.
I bought originally from a standard boutique in size 24, hated the experience and the shop threatened to call the police on our party when the dress was late because Forever Yours was closing and they just wanted us out because of the complaint.
Secondly I bought my size 4 off the peg from an independant who had a "make an offer" sale on. Went in on spec as I wanted an evening gown for a photoshoot and ended up with my wedding dress! No fuss, no hassle. Not had the length altered yet but I'm so happy with it!
There is a place in Milton Keynes that looks good on here(if your anywhere near)... think it's called about a bride plus size
I bought off the peg, the dress fit me perfectly, but had to have it taken up, this cost £60 and the dress cost me £650. They had lots of dresses in all sizes! X
Wed to be are amazing and very cheap and have all different sizes 😁
Go to a different shop! Perhaps have a look at price tags b4 u book an appointment so u know what sort of prices their dresses are. Many bridal shops have dresses for just under £500 new and around 12-16 weeks wait. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll find the right dress and look beautiful 👰🏼
I'd go to a few more shops! There was one or two where the dresses were either a size 10 or 24! Both of which made it impossible to see what it would look like. Be tough. Don't get pushed into making a decision until you're sure. Especially if it's out of budget. One place I tried on loads of dresses in my size at reasonable prices was David's bridal. There's a few branches in the UK. I didn't end up buying from there in the end but as an experience it was the best. Oh and you still have just enough time for made to measure. I bought mine end of Aug last year and it came into the store last week!
Dreams bridal in Norwich were lovely for me not making me feel big at all I bought off the peg for £650 xx
I bought my dress yesterday. I'm an 8-10 and bought the dress off the peg in a 14 as wedding dress sizes run 2 sizes smaller than traditional high street. Luckily for me the dress fits me like a glove and only needs a minor alteration that my mum can easily do. I got it for £500 when ordering the same dress in would have cost £1,050. I also get married in August and the shop owner did warn me that ordering a dress in and needing alterations for a wedding 6.5 months away really cuts it fine in terms of timing.
Wed 2 be is amazing for off the peg. You can look online to see the drrssrs you like then messagr on FB to check stock in your area before you go xx
You clearly weren’t in the right shop! Don’t let this experience put you off, I was a size 18 and pregnant when I found my dress. I went to 1 shop and they were horribly snooty, I said I wanted a look to get an idea of styles and they just told me I had to make an appointment to do so! I walked out and went to 4 or 5 other shops who were amazing! My dress wasn’t something I’d ever imagined myself in so keep looking! It’s supposed to be fun so don’t go back to that shop! My dress was a steal, it was reduced to £50 as it was end of line and the last one and they couldn’t have ordered any more! That was from a bridal shop! Your dream dress is out there :)
Keep shopping! Look at lots of different options. Off the peg is great but it does mean that they just have what they have. There are hundreds of wedding dress shops everything from high end to previously loved. Lots of options to choose from. Ordering a dress yes can take Upto 6 months but there are plenty of other options that don't. Please don't get too upset from one bad experience. Just stick it on the I'm not going back to that shop experience. Any decent good sales person will ask if you have a budget in mind and be able to help you accordingly. Even some high street stores do lovely wedding dresses. Monsoon phase 8 plus many more. Get out there and visit all types of wedding shops. Your dress is out there you'll probably find it where you least expect! Good luck.
I'm sure there will be plenty of shops near you that will have dresses in your size, don't go for something you're not sure of. I bought mine off the peg, a size too big for £700. It had to be taken in and taken up (a lot of work as the detail at the bottom had to be moved up too) - cost around £250 for alterations! Good luck
I'm sorry you had such an awful experience :-(
I was the opposite to you, I was a size 4 and all the dresses in the shop were size 14/16 or more, they all looked huge on me and I struggled to get the feel for it especially as I was so self conscious about being under weight.
But the shop I went to was amazing and the staff were so helpful and understanding, they found the 'one' after having me try on pretty much all the dresses in the shop - once they clipped me in it to show the shape it should have been I got a bit of confidence back and I bought off the rack as I only had 4 months before the big day and I too was told a new dress takes 6 months!
It all worked out well in the end, I managed to put a bit of weight on to go up to a size 6, and the alterations were amazing, the dress was very tight fighting after they had worked their magic!
I hope you have a better experience in the next shop you go to, good luck X
Deffinatley shop around. I personally had an awful experience at wed2be. Nothing fit me right and would of needed alterations but same as what you have said you can't tell what it's going to look like on once altered. I popped to another little bridal shop and found a few off the peg I liked that were a close enough size for me to see how they looked properly. I didn't want to take the one off so that's the one I purchased. There charging 60 poumds for whatever alterations are needed. Xx
I was also a size 18 when I went wedding dress shopping. I was really lucky to go to a shopthat had dresses in bigger sizes or at least 16s that went on with an insert in the back. My sister tried on one dress for me as was in a smaller size but the lady in the shop said if I liked it they would see if they could get a bigger sample for me to try. Go to a different shop and try not to be put off by your experience. With regards to expense. They left me in a room with loads of dresses and said have a look without me here and place dresses you want to try in this way so I know which to bring through
I’m a size 16, got mine from a local bridal shop for £600! They had a lot of ex samples etc. I was worried as I am a weird shape but they had so many for me to try on! I fell in love with the first dress I tried but the lady advised me to try different styles which I did- still got married in the first dress though lol. They had a woman they recommended for alterations and she did mine for £100 even though there was a lot of beadwork x
You need to visit more Bridal shops this may have just been a bad experience-most Shops have samples to try in lots of different sizes
These have sizes 10-26
Izzie Stockton cater for bigger brides and are amazing. They are in Taunton buy do have a website
If the shop doesn't have your size don't Try anything on you wouldn't for normal clothes and a wedding dress isn't a small purchase! Regardless of your size trying something on three sizes too small is going to make anyone feel like crap. Xxxx
Look on line for stockists of the larger Wedding dress ranges. My dress was from Callista range and the bridal shop in Worcester where I went had a good selection.
Definitely try somewhere else! My first dress shopping experience wasn’t great either but then I found a small independent shop that was amazing (Hen House in Devizes in case you live close). Don’t let anyone push you into getting something you’re not completely happy with. Good luck! Xx
Dorothy rose in Ellesmere Port has lots of dresses in lots of sizes for you to try, bit more pricey but worth every penny it’s all made to measure too. Keep looking and don’t be disheartened. I get married beginning of July and was told not to look for a dress until now so don’t worry about the time frame. X
I had the same .... an awful experience in wed2b the sizes where so off.
I am a size 16 and went to a shop made for bigger ladies, and the experience was much more pleasant. I fitted into size 16/18, and ended up with off the peg and took home there and the ! Xx
I didn’t like Wed2b as I felt they weren’t cut in the right place for curvier brides so they didn’t fit right! I’d definitely go to another shop, I went to 2 shops and although the samples were too small they put a panel in and pulled it together with elastic so I could see what it would look like they were amazing with me x definitely try another bridal shop x
Find another shop. Rather evil of them to force a dress on you and not try it on before your sure! Horrid customer service.
I suggest you look about at other stores. As a suggestion for trying different styles/cuts try somewhere like m&s or debenhams (sounds daft i know but they carry a variety of styles and most sizes too) at least then you can see which you prefer and are then fore armed when in a bridal store. I did it by trying on wedding gowns and evening/ball gowns to find the shape i liked and that suited me! Sadly in the end my mum made my gown as i couldnt find it in my size (6/8 waist with a 10/12 bust & hips!) But i refused to let the bridal stores bully me into getting a dress that was ok and would need alterations! I know not everyone can have a custom dress but there are some great stores out there with friendly helpful staff just gotta look in my experience Wed2be and prima donna were the most helpful and a few inderpendant stores in my area. But alot of big chains were rude pushy and downright nasty to my mum (who was a size 28 at the time) so i walked out after a few mins of looking for her outfit and a gown for me. Sad as i had 6 bridesmaids to clothe too. Their loss.
I'm a size 18 and i bought mine off the peg at Wed2b. I was dreading trying on dresses because I hate my figure but I tried on one that made me look so much slimmer and i felt amazing!! My dress was £599 and doesn't need alterations 😊 why don't you try there? I promise you will leave feeling so much better xx
Go somewhere else if the customer service wasn't up to scratch and your not happy with the product then take your business elsewhere . This woman last week at a wedding fair said if I wore 3 inch heels then I wouldn't have an issue getting a dress to fit as I'm really short. Let's just say I won't be visiting her shop anytime soon
I went wed2B they were fab and stocked my size and it was off the peg got it 6 weeks before my wedding dress was £300 with underskirt and dress bag and only cos £60 in alterations x
I happened to buy mine off the peg think I payed about
£150 in alterations as had to have quiet a bit off the length and I’m a size 18 I was never pushed towards expensive dresses yes tried on some dresses that where to small and some that wouldn’t even go on as the girls in the shop encouraged me to try all styles to see what suited me
I got mine from a Bridal Reloved store - designer dress, sample, one of a kind - cost £600. It needs alterations but she said it should be no more than £200. The lady spent like 4 hours with me trying on loads of different dress styles until we found the perfect one. It was a really lovely experience, I'd definitely go elsewhere xc
I'm getting married in August and the dress I have chosen and tried on for the second time was a size 10 and I'm a 14 bottom and 10 top but even the top didn't fit round me. The range I tried on had pictures in slim models and plus size models on their site which was really helpful. If you aren't a particular size all through your body then having one off the peg will be much more difficult to buy one.
I went dress shopping last weekened with my mum and sister im usually a size 8/10 and i was told some dresses are small fittings I tried on size 12s. I bought my dress last week off the peg and it is beautiful Iam also getting married in august and my dress will need altering as im only short plus i am dieting so it will need taking in too. the shop gave me a list of seamstress and some cap at £120 👌 i got my dress from Wed2be, maybe try them if u have a store close to you i could not fault them they were brilliant good luck and dont get disheartened this is your big day xx
Go to lots of different shops I found my dream dress in the 4th shop I looked in. I also fond all the shops were different. Some pushes me to the more expensive dresses, others stuck to my budget. Keep on looking I'm sure you will find your dream dress soon. Xxx
Embrace Bridal are amazing ... they cater for the fuller figured bride and their sample sizes are Bridal size 22 and up ... I had an awful experience before heading here and these ladies made my day special ... I can send u a link to their page ...
I found my dress on facebook sale pages. Brand new at half the price. I then went to a bridal shop and altered it all. Cost about 300 to alter and add stuff to my dress. X
Hi i know exactly how you feel i had this in a few shops (although they were much nicer). How can you buy a dress you have never tried on? I had mine from Davids bridal. There is one in Birmingham and a few more across the country. Its an american brand and it was amazing. Every dress they stock they have in every size so you get to see what it would look like. They even do alterations. All the dresses are under 2000 from a few hundred. Even stocking designers like vera wang. I cant recommend this shop enough and all the staff were wonderful on every visit i had. Dont let the other places get you down you deserve to feel wonderful and fantastic while picking your dress. Defiantly go somewhere like davids where they really care about your experience as well as getting the right dress. Just saw that there's also a sale on. Good luck finding your dress xx http://www.davidsbridal.co.uk/
That's a shocking way to treat someone. I'm in the wedding business and I know my local bridal shop says the average size is 16-18. Shop around and make sure you get treated like s princess. This should be a once in a lifetime experience to remember!
Go elsewhere! I went to a local shop to me (Celebrations Bridal House) who have sales every 6 months as when they purchase new stock from designers they don't have the room for old stock so sell it off! I'm getting married in August also and found my dress the day after I booked the registrar due to a well timed sale visit! My gown is off the peg and a size 16, once I get back to my pre-baby weight I'm more like a 10/12 and the owner of the shop advised a few seamstresses she knows would change around £150 for the alterations I require (I'm also a short arse so a lot of length needs taking off ) Check out Facebook pages and websites and ask people local to you on recommendations for your local stores!
Wed2b! Wed2B! Wed2b! Absolutely couldn't recommend them more. They have some absolutely gorgeous dresses in all sizes, I'm a 22 (26 in Wedding Dress sizing) and I had a lot of choice. The women there are great, not snooty or turning their nose up at me because of my size. Google plus size wedding dress shops as well, even if you need to travel somewhere it'll be a much better experience than going to a skinny bride shop. Don't let it get you down, it's the way the industry is but there are a lot of boutiques around that understand and cater to more than model sizes.
I bought all my dresses online from a website called jjshouse.
Every single dress was true to size and fit perfectly. No alterations needed and I could not have had a better and easier experience.
I spent £350 in total and got, my dress, my 2 bridesmaids dress, 2 flower girls dresses and my veil and shoes. All absolutely amazing quality and stunning.
I am a seamstress myself so could tell a cheap badly made dress a mile off but all dresses ordered as exactly what is photographed on their site.
The shoes I ordered were too small and they refunded me without returning them when it was my own error.
I really can’t express enough how much I’d highly recommend them, ordering online is always a tricky one but honestly this site is amazing and their customer services is spot on, every message I sent I got a reply within 24hours.
These are the dresses I ordered (not all in these colours though) ❤️
I found a dress I loved at a wedding fair but it was a size 20 and discontinued, I tried every where to find it in my size but couldn’t. I looked in wed2b but nothing really had the same feel, plus when I said I was looking for fitted but not fish tail they kept pulling out fish tail for me to try. Eventually my colleague at work gave me a number for a lady that made her dress. I went to see her in her home studio. She has dresses ready to buy, she can design from scratch, or like I’m doing, taking bits I liked on other dresses and making the dress I picked my own. She knew exactly what I meant by fitted but not fishtail. I have brought it off the peg, it’s £700 all in, alterations, add ons, the changes she making to it etc. Didn’t see the point in ordering the same dress for £1100 that we are making changes to anyway, then the alterations and everything on top of that. She will also come and dress me on the day and any issues with any dresses they will fix there and then so no worry about buttons off, broken zips etc
Where do you live - I went to Dream Days Bridal in Dudley and they were amazing all dresses in all different sizes - no beds pressure on you to buy anything absolutely amazing. I brought my dress elsewhere and they went into administration just before Christmas 2016 and I was getting married June 2017 and Dream Days were superb xx
Go to other shops. Probably best to go into the shop and have a look and talk to them. I only got my dress last weekend for my wedding in August and was told I still had plenty of time to get one ordered in and altered. The woman in the shop was fantastic and stuck to my budget. When I tried on my dress, even though it was a few sizes too small, I knew it was the one. Don't let this experience put you off x
Go elsewhere. The shop I bought mine in had at least a couple of sizes of each - 10/12 and around 18/20 - so could cater to most brides.
If you like a lace up back they can be left looser to give you an idea.
A good shop should ask your budget and stick to it (mine did recommend a couple a little above my budget but not massively so).
I got my dress from Wed2B. Personally I would only buy a dress off the peg if it needs minor alteration like some length taking off, cups being sewn in etc. As like you said you may not like it when it's altered to fit you. It's a real shame you had that experience. The first time I went dress shopping I didn't really enjoy it but the second time was much better and I found my dress that time. My alterations which include length taking up, cups sewn in and belt sewn on are going to cost £50 so it's not too pricey. Good luck and hope your second experience is better. I'd definitely recommend Wed2B :)
I went to Wed2b to have a look. I found they had various sizes and the fit wasn't to bad either. Had I have purchased the one I liked it wouldn't have need much alteration for me x
I went to wed2b and had a lovely experience with an amazing sales assistant. I wasn’t rushed, tried everything on in my size and only spent £175 on alterations after. Can’t fault them at all. X
I got mine from wed2b. My adjustments cost £240. I have had many compliments on my dress. Go for it xx ps I'm sorry you were treated poorly. That bridal shop should be ashamed of themselves xx
Have you thought about looking in catalogues simply be , j d Williams do bigger sizes and have wedding dresses you can order a few try them on and if you don't like them return them hope you have a fabulous day xx
I’m a size 16-18. I’d highly recommend wed2be there are so many dresses to choose from and they go up to a 22 so you would definitely find one that fits. They’re also fantastic as they don’t push you to buy a dress and will offer honest advice xx
I'm a size 10, but went to one shop and all the dresses there I swear were like a 6/8 - made me feel really crap! Needless to say dress was not bought from there! Tammi Warner remembers!
Another Wed2B recommendation here 👍
Go to other wedding dress shops! You absolutely have to try on a dress that’s at least close to your size otherwise you’ll never know how it will look until you’ve already paid for it & then you’ll end up starting again! David’s Bridal has a really good range of dress sizes & their most expensive dress is £2k. Good luck, don’t settle, it’s your day xx
I bought my dress off the peg in a 50% sale. The shop I went to they weren't pushy at all. They didn't have a choice of size for each dress but there were dresses there ranging from 12 to an 18. The dress I chose was too big for me but they pinned it in for me to see what it looked like and my alterations only cost £35.
I would suggest going to a few different bridal shops as I think it's important to feel comfortable and happy with the service as well as finding the right dress. I will also add that I planned our wedding in 5 months so buying off the peg was the better choice for me. Good luck, I hope you find the perfect dress! X
Hi, I am also size 16/18 an had an awful experience with my first dress shop I went into was told I need to loose a lot of weight to even look nice in my wedding day. With this the seamstress did get told that I will be going else for my dress so I found the most lovely shop called coastal bridal in Mevagissey and she is absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble. ☺️
I was £2200 for my dress and another £200 to have it altered..but after it in seen same 1 for so much less so shop about and go to different shops or order online as much cheaper have altered if needed..you will find your dream dress all the best on your big day
Had some very rude experiences being a plus size bride. The second shop I visited told me they had a plus size selection (3/4 of which would not fit me) and every dress I tried on they wanted me to give my immediate reaction and literally kicked me out of the shop quite rudely for no obvious reason other then they believed I was wasting their time.
I ended up going to a plus size specialist shop in the end mostly because I wanted to be able to try on every single dress if I wanted too !
No matter what your paying for the dress and should be treated with respect and decency not contempt or rudeness. X
I'd be going to a different shop that's terrible customer service telling you that they had something that they didn't. You really want to try dresses on that'll fit as they can look gorgeous on the hanger but just not suit you at all. X
Oh Hun try a different bridal shop.
So my experience was slightly different. I tried a dress on that was too big but I knew I liked it so what they did was called around to find the sample in my size and 'borrowed' it at a cost of £50 to be to have to shipped in.
When I bought the dress, the £50 was taken off the total cost.
If the bridal shop doesn't offer this option then it's not the bridal shop for you.
Do not let anyone make you feel like you haven't got options when it comes to buying the most important dress for you. Xxx
I got mine from wed2be, I’m a size 14-16 and they had all sizes in many styles. Can’t fault the staff there and managed to find my dress on the first shop. It does need a few alterations, especially taking up as I’m really not very tall, but I’ve been quoted about £100-150 for it. Sorry you were treated to badly by that store. It’s there loss
Hi wed2b are fantastic I’m a plus-size and found my dream dress at one of their stores service was fantastic and the prices were really good ! Would
Highly recommend x
Try somewhere else. Every bride should be made to feel a million dollars when trying on dresses and if the shop doesn’t do that, they don’t deserve your business! You are beautiful, go somewhere where they recognise and celebrate that! ❤️
Wed2be are amazing! They have stores all over the UK and I had an incredible experience buying my dress from there. I'm a plus sized woman but I was totally spoilt for choice and not made to feel any different from any other bride that went in there. It's all off the peg there but my dress fits me so perfectly that I won't be needing alterations we paid £780 for the dress, underskirt and veil xx
I regret paying 1200 for my dress it's now hanging and a waste of cash, was wore for bout 4hrs cause I took ill and came out of it
I tried a dress on in a shop size 12 .. way too big, cost £1700 ... my mum found my exact same dress in my exact size for £350 so didn’t need alterations, just dry cleaned and turning up. So my advice is to shop around and even look on Ebay for the dress u want. X
Seconding David's Bridal! I had a similar experience in another shop being reassured that there would be dresses for me to try on and they were all tiny sample sizes that didn't fit anywhere. Being able to try on my actual size made it so much better. Staff were all wonderful, and although the orders arrived quickly, you can buy the one in the shop if you're tight on time. X
Sorry you had a bad experience its making me not want to shop for mine now
The one i went was amazing she was honest wit me and helped me esp wit my body shape have a great experance. Even went as fair as show me under wear and tiaras that wud go well wiv my dress and bonus i got a discount and wasn made to buy anything i didn want
Look around. We have a wedding dress shop that only stocks dresses from size 16 upwards. It is by appointment only and they only have one customer in at anytime. That way their attention is solely on you and you don’t have other customers watching you. Good luck .
Go to a different shop. I measured as a size 24 in the dress I liked the lady assured me I would get the sample on and although it didn’t fasten up 100 % I got it on and could see how it will look on. It fit everywhere except my boobs she ordered it for me saying it can be taken in upto two sizes as I’m losing weight too but know my boobs don’t get smaller (previously lost 8.5 stone still wearing the same size bra but put 4 stone back on whilst pregnant) my dress will be in the shop in June ready for any alterations i need for my September wedding x
I've been to Liverpool Bridal Boutique. I am a size 20 and they had all different sizes to try. Even if it was a small size they never once made me feel insecure or fat. They knew exactly what to put on my shape and did not steer me to anything that was above budget or something I didn't want. You should feel special on your day and it's their job to make sure of that! Xc
Sorry that you had such a bad experience! I can’t offer advice as I haven’t started looking yet but I really hope you find your dream dress! X
Wed2Be are amazing. I found my dress somewhere else but heard so much good about them. If your in London there’s a shop in Bric Lane I went too an they were lovely x
I had the same experienece as a larger sized bride in several bridal shops. Then I went to the Fairygothmother in London and had a. Fantastic experience with several dress that I could try on in my size and bought my wedding dress there and left feeling positive instead of like a whale, like everywhere else made me feel.
I went to a small family run bridal shop and got made to feel good being on the plus side I was dreading shopping for my dress.
Sounds like you went to a really bad wedding shop! I also recommend wed2be I helped my friend find her dress there and they definitely go size 6-30! Hope you find your lovely dress soon!!!
Please don’t be offended. https://www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-dresses/plus-size/
I got my dress from Wed2B, it only cost £600 and fit wonderfully, the only alteration I needed was the length taking up. The staff are also incredible, they’re so friendly and go above and beyond to make the entire experience fun and enjoyable for you, they’d also never try and push you into spending more money good luck x
Wed2be are really helpful and friendly, they have a relaxed atmosphere and usually have dresses of all sizes. Hope you have more fun next time x
I bought my dress yesterday. The first shop we went to was really hectic and whilst the sales lady was lovely, it was chaos with 4 other brides in the changing rooms all trying to share mirrors and boxes. The sizing was all over the place with me fitting in 10s but then not in an 18. It does really knock your confidence.
The shop I bought from, the woman was lovely. Not pushy and upfront about pricing. She offered her advice but always took my opinions and feelings into account. I can't rate her enough, anyone in the Manchester area of recommend Jackie at Bespoke Bridal Boutique
If the bridal salon you were I treated you that way.. I'd have nothing to do with them... Honestly... Utterly no need in this day and age... Find somewhere that's more professional in their conduct... Xx
Web2b definitely have a wide range of sizes at reasonable prices but go on a weekday when they are quieter as they don’t do appointments and you will have to wait and you only get to try 4 dresses at a time. But they are available to buy off the peg and you’ll just need to get it altered if need be.
Bridal is always about two sizes smaller than it’s equivant dress size.
I’m an 18 too and had to buy an 22(button up back... I hate corsets)
So don’t feel bad about what the label says.
A good boutique should have larger samples in each “silhouette” or shape, so you can get an idea what suits you.
If the shop you went to doesn’t have that, try elsewhere. It’s the most important purchase of your wedding. Xxxx
I've bought my dress off the peg and it's awesome. I actually went to look at another dress I'd seen online which was ridiculously expensive. This one was my size but damaged - when I asked what the damage was, it had been worn in a fashion show and had fake tan marks on the inside where no one could see so they reduced or by £300. Incidentally these marks came out with a baby wipe so can't even be seen now. There are definitely bargains to be had, and no one will know mine is second hand on the day!! Good luck! X
Where are you based? My sister was a bigger bride and she went to about a bride plus size in Milton Keynes. They were amazing! They have sample dresses from an 18 upwards. Definitely worth a look x x
I don’t know where you are based but I’m buying mine from Edith and Winston in knutsford. They specialise in plus sized wedding dresses and have loads of dresses to try on 18
I didn’t want to spend too much on my dress, so I started looking at high street/online options. Wed2Be had some nice options but I was lucky and found something I liked on ASOS. No pressure to buy anything and it came next day. I don’t know if high street sizes are food for you? I can be anything between a 16 and a 12 depending on style or make. Very difficult to tell but it took the stress out of it for me!
I am a plus size and have had issues finding shops with dresses to try on. I suggest wed2b and Debenhams to try on and get ideas but then order a custom fit dress on jj's house.
The first shop I went the lady was very pushy and kept calling me afterwards. The dress was £2,400. I tried a smaller size but it was open a bit at the back. I went to a Wed2Be but I didn’t love the dress. I then made appointments at shops in Staffordshire which is far from me but only stockists of designers I liked from wedding fairs. I went with another designer in the end but both the shops I went to had lovely staff and loads of sizes. My dress was far cheaper and I loved it!
I had the same experience I tried my dress on in a size 10 I’m a 14 but the girls made me feel like a princess however went to another shop who said every time I picked a dress that I couldn’t wear that as it doesn’t go up big enough and that I needed the plus size curvy range I was totally humiliated as I have also had to fight with my weight but I lost 2 stone for wedding xx where I had my dress from said they don’t go on size they go on measurements, I bought my from Ashton rose in Hereford would totally recommend them
Oh bless you , I am so so so sorry you have had that experience! Have a call around a few local shops and explain what has happened, we are not all the same, in my shops we have a fab selection of curvy girl dresses ️
I paid a bridal shop to get a dress in I saw online so I can try it on. In my case I bought that dress as I fell in love with but but for me even if I didn’t buy it, it would have well been worth the money as I could rule it out. sorry you’ve had a bad experience at the bridal shop. Hope it gets better for you. Congrats and good luck xx
WED2B are a great shop all sizes
I'm getting married in November and am ordering from a site called dressilyme.com. They are so reasonably priced, made to measure for really cheap and only take about a month to arrive. I watched alot of YouTube video reviews and nobody had a bad experience!
I had mine in the January sales £1500 down to £500 from Cardiff bridal! I tried it on and fell in love! I'm tall so didn't need it taking up and after loosing a couple of pounds it fitted perfectly so no alterations needed! Have you tried wed2be? They are supposed to be fab and reasonable as well! Xx
There is a company called brides with curves have shops all over the UK. ...speclise is size 16-52. They have a website some nice dresses on there
What about wed2b? I had tried on varied sizes of 6, 8 and 10. The ones that were slightly bigger for me I didn’t like so I got one that doesn’t need alterations. I had an ok experience with the shop I went too. I went far away to get my dress as I live near London the shops close by at expensive. X
Wed 2 b
I love the shop I bought my dress from. Haven’t worn it yet. I was like you a larger bride now lost 4 stone and 4 dress sizes. Still want more off but the shop so far have been brilliant every dress I choose I could get on no problem and they were brilliant. Defo shop round on shops, if your Essex way just message me I can give details. My dress was a lot of money but so so so so worth it xx
Try web2b 👍🏻👍🏻
There’s a bridal shop in Milton Keynes called about a plus sized bride, the lady that runs it is really lovely xx
Wed2Be are great X
Has anybody bought online from stacees.co.uk?
I thoughtI would have this problem but I went in and got my dress off the rail and it was perfect. It helps to like the people at the shop. I'm a size 22 and increadably anxious, but Donna at brides of norfolk is great, she is really friendly and sweet, I instantly felt I was welcome
I’m also a size 18 and was told that they had dresses in my size I went to 4 places including wed2be and what a terrible experience they kept putting me in ball grown which I purposely told them I didn’t want. It got to the poin5 I started ordering from shops like Marisota and John Lewis so that I could try them on in my own home. It was very stressful but eventually went to Emma Roy in Edinburgh who had a great selection to try on and found my dress. The alterations are individually priced from £50 or you could buy a package for a one off price.
Wed2b are fantastic and have a variety of sizes! I purchased mine from the Bolton store although it's not a bridal boutique u r still made to feel special! I also liked the fact there were other brides trying on dresses as it made it more exciting (for me anyway) I also went back and purchased my bridesmaid dresses from there as they were soo good!! My dress was £500 and had more detailed design then some of the ones I tried on costing £3000
I would recommend buying off the peg. I went to a place called Townhouse bridal based near St Neots. The lady there only sells sample sale or discontinued dresses so you get lovely designer gowns but she never sells anything more than £650, but most of the dresses are £500 or less. She had a range of sizes with different styles. I never once felt any pressure to buy and she was incredibly helpful. I found, paid and took mine home the same day. My alterations cost £335 in total, but that is quite high as my dress has a lot of layers and I’m short so needed quite a bit of altering height wise, she also made sure it fit everywhere else, replaced all the buttons at the back with glass buttons and added a bustle so my long train can be pulled up after the ceremony so I can dance and walk around easily. The lady altering my dress took 2 weeks in total to complete the alterations.
I went to Champagne & Confetti in Eastbourne and they were amazing! Bought it off the rack in a size 14 and had it taken in about 2 sizes closer to the time. Was only £1000 including the alterations!
I'm a size 22 and I went to wed 2 B they had a selection of dresses in my size and were very helpful all dresses are £600 and less so I shopped for what I liked not what i could afford. As it was my dress was just under £500 but also brought a Lace bolero for £99. Because the dress was a Lace Up back I found even losing weight it would still fit. I was also very luck my mum was a dress maker and she took the dress up. But wed2b did have available alteration details if needed. The shop you went to should be ashamed making you try on size 10 dresses xx
I feel your pain. I haven't started dress shopping yet, but I am a size 18 too and am dreading this situation. Thanks for asking this question. I think I'll start at wed2b. Good luck x
Got mine off ebay.. was 2nd 1 i looked at.. It's vintage, which obviously means it's not new but its in great condition & i love it, cost me £47 including p p... Hope you find "the dress" thats right for you, and get treated much more repectfully. Some shops just dont deserve our custom..
I'm a size 4-6 so at the other end of this, but was incredibly lucky to get a perfect fit off the peg! I'd recommend looking for bridal store sales. Even if they don't have THE dress, the place I went to had sizes from a 4-28 I think so options for a lot of ladies. At least then you could see what dresses look like on. Your wedding dress is very important and not something to chance. Hope you get your dream dress!
I am a size 20-22 and I went to wed2be they were amazing and had loads of plus sizes I am slimming down for the big day later this year but they had some lovely plus size ones xxx
It's all about WED2B!!!!
I went to Hornsea bridal store and the lady who dealt with me was amazing. I’m a size 14/16 and she made me feel beautiful throughout! In the end I was bursting with confidence. She told me it doesn’t matter the size of the dress as long as I feel like a princess. I went in just to look. No intentions of even trying on and came out with my dress!! It was only £700. The whole experience was lovely. I don’t think it’s right they made you try on a size 10. Depending where you are I would 100% recommend this place. Good luck xx
Try wed2b x
I bought mine from a lovely place in St Ives, Cambridgeshire called Shades of White. They had loads of dresses for me to try and I'm a size 22. I was really worried about this as well. I bought mine to order but I managed to try it on first in the right size. Xx
I bought mine on eBay from a lovely lady in China, made to measure - for £40. It’s lovely, only took 2 weeks to arrive x
I was a size 18 unfortunately i didn't have the money for shop dresses and got mine of ebay not realising it came from china so the dress was way to small and i had no time and no money to change it so my mam got extra materiel and sawed on the back so you wouldn't see my fat trying to escape the ribbons bless her i hated it i always dreamed of the perfect wedding and the perfect dress so i was upset but i was happy i was marrying the man i love i would either find a different shop or take these suggestion don't be forced just so they can make sale dind the dress you love
Please visit bridal house , high Wycombe as staff are Not pushy , catch their january , February sales .... Allowed me to say what price band I could afford ' had large sizes ... Love sarah xx
I went to wed2be and they were amazing. They had dresses of every style in most sizes. You buy your dress off the rail and can try on 5 at a time so different styles can all go in with you. It was amazing and definitely worth a try
Have a look on www.stillwhite.co.uk you can filter dresses through size and get an idea of what they really look like on real size ladies and then perhaps get an idea of brand you'd like xx
Please go to a different bridal stoore.
I did my research with being a size 18 myself too I was very nervous and aprehensive!!
The right stoore will have a selection of sample dresses in plus size for you to try
So you can at least try them on and see what they look like. Xx
I've been trying on dress I'm an 18 the first shop I went to was awful but have since found some lovely dress shops that have a range of different dresses for me to try on. Which area are you in? Good luck x
Try Wed2B xx
Go elsewhere. With treatment like that the business does not deserve your money x
Ive been so lucky - been to 3 shops and all have larger sizes (I'm a 22) and even better the owners had experienced the same as me. Web2be is a good one
I'm a size 14 and when I tried dresses on in bridal shops I had to try at least 2 sizes bigger in some styles that I liked as they were just so tiny. I ended up ordering my dress on line and sending my measurements xx
Hi i like to say i got my dress off wish it came within weeks and beautiful i am a size 18 and the fit was perfect no need to do anything to it and it cost me £34 for a full proper wedding dress i feel for a dress for 1 day thats enough to pay as i will never wear it again i am putting the extra money to our honeymoon as i feel this is more for memorys paying hundreds off pounds for a dress for one day is crazy best wishes for your day x
Where are you hunni?
That sounds horrid! Do not let it spoil your special moment though.
I've gone to a couple of small business beautiques..
My local one was gourgous... but I'm based in wales. I went to a few others but went back to Brecon Bridal and they even went on the hunt for the style of dess I wanted because they didn't have one in stock! So they searched their suppliers to find what they could.
Got dress and veil from them.
Look up their reviews and if they have won any awards etc before you shop...
If you let me know your area I ca have a look for you? ?
I'm not a small bride either. Do NOT let small minded people effect such a special moment xxx
Not sure on your area, but try David's bridal in Westfield stratford. Alterations are around £100 for the standard take up, adding a bussel (not sure if that's how you spell it!) and they have all different sizes in all different styles. Although they didn't have the one my mum chose in Stock, they're getting it in for her with a turnaround of 4weeks! Just found them very helpful in there, wish I'd known about them when I got married. Also the average dress in there ranged between £400-600 roughly. Obviously some were more than this, but just as a general rule, most were this sort of price. Good luck xx
Off the peg gives you instant results.... Wed2be dresses are gorgeous... Save yourself the stress.
I'm a size 18, was always worried about dress shopping but had great experience at David Bridal and Wed2b - got my amazing beautiful dress from Wed2b in MK and its gorgeous! I love it. Happy dress shopping xx
I’m a size 20, bought my dress off the peg price was over £1200 but as I tried it on the assistant told me it was going in the sale in a few weeks and she would drop the price to £500, I needed no alterations, although I did go to a dressmaker to get her opinion of the fit, we got married Nov
I had the same experience. I went to wed2be Hinckley and the staff were lovely so friendly and helpful they also gave me a list of people to alter the dress as it is off the peg.
Simply be have some lovely dresses up to around a size 30.
Hi I went for my first app I'm an 18/20 too n 16 bottom lol I went to davids who are fab n tried on lots of diff styles I'm only 5ft 2 but the style that I thought I would want maybe won't be that one now the tea length are lovely n they put a basque on me which was perfect good luck I'm going to berketex next week n have taken pictures to what I like they have a great range of sizes as well I have even found a place that hires bout 40 min from me I'm in Glasgow going there subday
Hi I'm also a size 18 and trying really hard to drop 2 dress sizes. I haven't tried on any dresses yet but have found a lot I like to look of. Have a look at herdeess.com. so many beautiful dresses. Can have a dress custom made to your size, any alterations are free. Hope this helps.
Contact the supplier and see who the stockists are. Call them and see if anyone has it in your size to try on.
Give Kelly a buzz she’s amazing xx
Really sorry to hear about your bad service! I can't recommend David's Bridal enough(i went to the Watford store but they have some around the country) they have a wide selection of dresses in practically all sizes I could see. They also have Vera Wang white collection and prices start around 200 -2000 I think?
Hi don’t be pushed into anything you’re not happy with. A good bridal shop won’t do this. I chose a sample dress 18 months ago for my wedding in June which did do up but was clearly too small which would have meant would only fit properly if I shed 2 stone. The manager was lovely with me as I went back several times to try it on. I went back a few weeks ago and chose another one which looks so much nicer and fits!! It’s not worth buying a dress which is way if the radar size wise. You’ll have enough stress without your dress not fitting. I kep thinking the whole time yes Ud diet but didn’t and made me feel unhappy. I’m excited and looking forward to my day now.
I got my dress from Davids Bridal in London. They have big choice of plus sizes and dresses are amazing. I got very elegant ball gown and it was only £450, so the have different price range and big selection. Good luck xx
I had that problem to but I look around and now I got lovely dress the shop went to do 6 -big size
Plussizebridal is an advert I saw on TV while watching Say Yes to the Dress and their address is 8 New Street
United Kingdom. Hopefully they have dresses you can try on.
If you're not near a wed2b search for plus size shops and outlet shops. David's bridal is also meant to be good. I know it's hard as the sizes come up small too. I don't understand why shops don't have most dresses in bigger sample sizes. You can try on a big dress but not the other way.
Do you have a wed2be near you? i have been in one and they have dresses up to a size 28, you buy the dress there and then and they are either £699 or the luxury range i think is £899 they have a great selection, I was really surprised at the range and the quality . and the ladies working in he shop are lovely. good luck Laura
if you know a style that suits you , try looking on stillwhite and ask for size you need and go try that exact size on from ppl ? This is only way I can think you would actually get the size to try on with better understanding of what the look like ??
Good luck xxx
Hi! What a horrific experience they should in no way push you towards a dress that’s too expensive, whilst bridal shops don’t stock all sizes they should have way more sizes than 10’s! I went to a wed2b warehouse after some really crap experiences at proper bridal shops. I actually found an amazing dress I adored at a fraction of the cost of what normal bridal store charges! Had a fab experience and they have a wide range of dresses! Maybe search for one close to you and pop in! Good luck!
I found my dress in Wed2b. I recently lost my son and he picked the dress for me it’s perfect. But I found the staff wonderful and really helpful.
They have all sizes and and prices range from £99-700 good prices. And you will have it in time for your wedding weither you need alterations or not and I’m not sure but believe you can purchase and take same day they have a website to so you can check what they have before you go it’s www.wed2b.co.uk and they have shops all over uk.
They have dresses for all shapes and sizes I’m a curvy women and found they have a great selection but said also I’m losing weight for my wedding and they had great advice and styles etc hope they helps
Definitely go to Wed2b. I went last Friday for my first ever time looking at dresses and ended up buying one. They are really helpful and have lots of different sizes an choices.
Web2b have some lovely dresses at gd prices as well, hope you find something xx
Hi, I got my dress from Davids Bridal. It arrived in 2 weeks. I know that they have a huge range of larger sizes you can try on, my dress is a Jenny packham I got it for £400. Hope the above helps... I TrueDepth a few boutiques before hand and was squeezed into sample dresses (tiny) and pushed to buy one at 4K.
Have you considered getting a dress made? Look up any local dressmakers in your area and have a wee chat. I don't think it'll be as expensive as many people imagine it to be!
Have you tried Wed 2 be? Apparently they are good. I'm getting my dress done by my aunt so can't really offer advice on shops
Try wed2be I'm a 10-12 and dresses I tried on were baggy on me I still got me dress from them just need to get it taken in a little
Go to a specialist Shop - these ladies are fully trained and will advise accordingly
A specialist Shop will have gowns in your size to try.
Please try lily rose of Warwickshire
Nicola Oswin can help x
I’m a big girl I rang shops first to see if they did plus size. As my 1st wedding was a similar experience I was humiliated. But I have my second dress it was much better experience as I was prepared
Where r u? If tour near Derby at all I highly recommend curvylicious, shes a specialist I'm curvy brides such as your self. I am a size 20 and she made me feel like a princess!
If not search your area for plus size bridal shops. Good luck.
I would shop around and you will find that dress you want x
Have a look at Scarlett & Jo ,
& elsies attic ,
As they will all let you try it on & return if wrong ,
Look at 1950's as very flattering with beautiful petticoats in different colours to go underneath ,
Or tea dresses ,
Or their wedding range ....
Warm wishes for your special day xx
Oh no poor you. Ive just bought my dress yesterday from a small establishment. Went to try one i really liked and ended up with a different one i fell in love with. The staff were lovely and very helpful. One thing i did realise was i had to get a dress 2 sizes bigger than i am. Dont be put off by this. My dress fits perfectly and if i lose weight before the big day can be either altered by them or re orded. Your experience should be a special one so dont let this put you off. If they are good they should have a site for you to check out dtesses and sizes in stock before you go. Good luck finding the dress for you.
I saw your message and felt so sad for you!! That is not an experience you deserve, especially when being a bride is overwhelming at times anyway!! Everyone's answered my reply already.. I went to Wed2b in Camberley, Surrey and found the experience wonderful. Even if it was only 20 mins to close I turned up as I had a horrendous time in the 1st shop, got stuck in over 2 hour's worth of traffic & couldn't find a parking space :( I was exhausted, hot & sweaty & gutted I never had much time to try on dresses.. but I walked in to a lovely warm smile, immaculate shop, wonderful assistant and found my dress in 20 mins !! Complete opposite of what I wanted too!
I'm 4foot 11 so every dress drowns my height as they are made for supermodels as they are designer but Wed2b has all sorts of shapes & sizes sorted.. I used one of their local recommendations and I'm booked in 12 weeks before the big day for 1st fitting, around £150-200 I think is expected (I have around 2 foot needing altering haha!!)
I really hope your next experience fulfils you with the confidence & treatment you deserve. Congratulations by the way!! Xx
98 days and counting :)
You can definetly find a dress off the peg. Shades of White near Cambridge were great and had a variety of sizes. They also just had a massive sale. I also searched for a plus size boutique and they had lots of options I could try. It’s just a case of trying different shops. I went to a few that were rubbish, a couple that made me feel rubbish but also found some great ones. Keep trying x
Hello darling. I can give you the biggest advice ever ! WED2B ! You can go,buy a dress and take it with you the same day. plus the most expensive dress cost like £899 . Im getting married in august this year and i already bought my dress there but i will take it to seamstress a month before to change the size etc because im planning to be much skinnier as well. I went to London Surbiton but they have branches all over the UK. I bought 3rd dress that i tried on. You can check them out on instagram or they website. I could not desribe how happy i am with my dress
another thing that i forgot to mention is, i am size 10/12 with DD brest i had to get size 16 in the shop :o but dont be upset if the same will happen to you because anyway you will have to take it to seamstress to get it fit perfectly just before the wedding
Hi, I bought my dress off the peg yesterday. I was definitely not going to order and risk it not being right. I tried on a few at an outlet centre- they had all sizes and were really helpful but I went away totally demoralised - but because of prices not sizes. I went to a prom dress shop near Beverley in East Yorkshire- they had lots of dresses for prom and weddings and I actually went for a sale prom dress that is truly as beautiful as any of the wedding dresses I tried and was a quarter of the price. I am going to be a beach mermaid!!! Hope you find what you are looking for and maybe think outside the box. I never dreamed of my wedding dress looking like this one but it is unbelievable and I’m really happy with it xx
I’ve bought my dress today from WED2B, very helpful. They do have a good range of sizes. Im a size 16 in their dresses. They don’t have all the range featured on their website in every store but get 2 deliveries per week- I’d advise to phone ahead and check so it’s not a wasted visit. I’ve been told by one bridal shop it would be 3 months to order in, but I am getting married 17th May.
Where abouts do you live ? There is a shop called bride with curves she has lots of bigger sizes that will definitely fit and she clips them in and they're reasonably priced too you should look her up and explain your situation 😊😊p.s. she had the same experience and told us that is why she opened the shop xx
Iv been married before and I had off the peg, I bought a £1600 dress for £300, all it needed was dry cleaned and it was stunning, if you were made to feel that way, go to another shop. Never go back there. It should not be that kind of experience. X
I bought my dress 3 weeks ago from wed2be, this was off the peg. I’m a size 10 but wed2be cater for all shapes and sizes. They have a huge amount of dress rails from size for to I think a size 20. The girls who work there really listen to what you would like. I would say take a trip to your nearest store, you can try on as many as you like, it may just give you a chance to find your shape.
Hope this helps xx
I am a size 20 and I got my lovely dress from a wedding dress shop called WED2B. They were fantastic! Very supportive, no pressure and had all sizes. Another bonus....no need to make an appointment!!!
Go on their website and you can find a place near you hopefully. Good luck xx Fiona
I here w2b is good I’m going soon both me and my friend are getting married I am sliming at the moment and a bigger size so I feel for you I really wish you all the luck in the would but try w2 b Hun I only heard good things about them xxxx
I’ve bought mine on eBay. It’s a little too big for me and quite a lot too long! I have a quote of £168 for my alterations. Could you visit a dressmaker and get something designed just for you? x
Hi, so sorry you’ve had this experience.
As a size 20 bride I was very anxious and have even postponed my wedding before due to the anxiety of dress shopping.
Wed 2 b are an amazing company and can’t do enough for you. Amazing selection of dresses in store to try on up to size 32’s!
Visit their website and see if they have a branch near you. You won’t regret it. They gave me so much help and confidence.
Good luck xx
I think it depends where you go.
I’m a size 30 and had an amazing experience at a wonderful shop who work in plus sizes only. I wasn’t pushed into anything, and she was super supportive.
I was so worried before I went, but relieved it went well.
Hey! I bought a dress off the peg in the sale. It was 2 sizes too big and it was limited edition and the last one left in the UK so I bought it there and then without thinking about it... I had it half price in the sale which was great but still over my budget because the original rrp was so high. But now I've found out that the alterations are going to cost me £300 when I was originally quoted £150 :(. So get alteration quotes before you buy too to check that it can definitely be altered. I was told I would have no problem getting it altered two sizes down but now the seamstress is saying it will be difficult because of the material and the amount it needs altering and that's why it's costing so much more. There's loads of shops out there just keep looking. Message shops in the area and ask if they have dresses on the peg in your size before you go. Have you tried web2b?
Wed2b are good but if you are anywhere near sheffield I would recommend celebrating curves bridal boutique at Hackenthorpe Jane is amazing and only stocks plus size dresses. Her alterations ladies are awesome too! Would definitely recommend, she has a sale section too if you want off the rack x
Hi, im a size 12/14 and there were very few sizes in the shops i went to that fit me. Luckily i found a dress i loved (was too small when i tries it on but ordered it in my size). If you haven’t felt completely sure about a dress yet then id advise you not ti buy iy
Angel brides in Leeds, think they have more stores, sell from sizes 14 to 34, with you been size 18 you will need a size 20-22 as the dresses are always 2 sizes small, best advice is to look for curvy bride stores, of the peg is so much easier
Ahhh that's horrible that you were treated like that....go somewhere else, she doesn't deserve your money. I'm a size 16 & bought my dress off the rail. Needs slight alterations & the woman was fab. She asked me to try it on, first dress I did & I fell in love with it. Tried on others to be sure, but went back to original & bought it. My lady knew what would suit me & found me the dress. Go somewhere else as the experienced ones will know what will suit you...good luck x
Hi there. I was a size 16 when I went shopping and I tried a dress on that was too small. Luckily I found the perfect one. I have lost 3&1/2 stone since and now have to pay £230 for alterations which is almost half of what my dress cost! It’s not easy finding a dress but when u find the right one you’ll just know. Wedding shops should have all sizes to try on. It’s unacceptable to not have any for your size to try. I would keep looking around Hun.
I also recommend wed2b, which goes up to size 30. You buy the one you try on if you like it, they're not pushy but do encourage you to buy it then if you want it as they say it may not be there when you come back as they can't hold it. I needed some alterations to my dress and its approx about £165 for all, at the max price. This includes shortening the dress (I'm 5'1!) adding a belt i bought that i want sewn on (open back, so don't want a big bow on the back!) and also shortening the straps so it doesn't move around as much. I'm also having a loop on the end so we can over bustle it in the evening. It also may come under that, she said 165 was the max price if there was issues!
My mum is a 16-18 and we had a similar problem when we were looking for her this time last year. She ended up buying off the peg from Wed2b. My mum said this was the best shop she went to. The adjustments cost £100 from a local company but I guess it might depend what you need doing as to price. Hope you get sorted x
I went to wed2b, they have stores up all over the country. They stock all sizes and the price ranges from £99 to £699. I went to the Southampton store and the staff were so nice and helpful. I chose to have bits added to mine but I found my own seamstress and it’s cost me £150 which I think is pretty good for the amount of work I’m having done.
I hope you find your dream dress soon
I havent been dress shopping yet but am I currently a size 18 and dieting i will be going in September but I'm going to wed2b because the have a good size range for 18 I can only imagine how hard it is to picture your self in a dress that is 4x smaller its riding
Ridiculous not riding xx
