I started planning a year before, but there is no official mark when you should start - but you want to give yourself plenty of time to organised everything. I used to be a wedding coordinator and found most clients started a year-a year and a half before their wedding. But I did arrange one wedding in 3 weeks, the wedding had been planned elsewhere at a later date but the brides father was terminally ill so they wanted to move up the wedding so he could attend. Some wedding have been arrange in just a few months.

Ours was just over 2 years at the start. Largely to give us time to save. I know someone that got engaged and married within 3 months.

We only brought a house a year ago, so got engaged August 2017 and getting married May 2020, so we can easily afford everything we want (venue and date booked)
