Has anyone booked their wedding paid all deposits etc then decided to cancel everything and get married abroad? We are struggling financially and have found out it’s cheaper to get married abroad? Has anyone been in the same situation. Also any advice for getting married in New York??

If it was me I’d just keep the booking and Just maybe cut some of the things off of what you’ve booked or for the venue if you can maybe cut down on the guests and for the florists maybe go for cheaper flowers to what you can afford. As long as at the end of the day you’ve paid for what you’ve used your not losing. Just remember it’s the run up to Christmas money is always going to be tight this time of year

How much would you lose on deposits, would you then want a party when you get back....often looks much cheaper at first glance & probably is if you want just an intimate only you wedding....but it can run away with you. Whatever you decide have a wonderful day x

I got married aboard Cyprus to be exact. Was perfect down to everything, the weather, the venue, the scenery. Do not regret a thing about choosing to get married abroad was definitely cheaper for us.

I think it depends on what kind of wedding you have abroad. Yes it’s cheaper if the two of you elope for a simple service but otherwise it can be just as pricey. We are getting married in Jamaica & are at £25k already

You really need to price things up realistically. We had originally decided to have a Hog roast in our back garden and had paid deposit to the caterer. We had so much difficulty in getting suppliers to come back to our enquiries (we were looking at 70 people so required seating etc) and looking at the costs we found it was less hassle and not much more expensive to go to a local Wildlife Park for the reception and they do everything. We even get admission to the park included. Because we gave so much notice of cancellation to the caterer we got our deposit back too.

Well I would be amazed if you found something cheaper in new York. Plus be aware that you will have to be careful of when as September/October they often get hurricanes and cyclones meaning it might be impossible to fly over there. Plus alot of your guests might not be able to go due to time off work and cost for them

Yes we did. We had everything booked at home, all deposits paid and cancelled it all and got married in Vegas. It was the best decision we ever made. We had just an evening reception when we came back and it was brilliant x

We booked the venue then changed it and are now going abroad. It’s roughly the same price as getting married in uk but you get a 2 week holiday as well

It might work out cheaper for you, for the actual wedding costs. But you need to consider how many of your family and friends could actually spend thousands going to new York to attend your wedding....

I will most likely be getting married in New York, just need to book nearer the time! Anyone know of a hair and beauty stylist out there? With reasonable pricing?
